My absolute shit bust favourite was my first pair of On Cloudventure Peaks - the orange and grey ones. It was a proper game changer. I hate massive chunky Hoka-style soles. The Ons were light, insanely comfortable, with amazing feedback, good grip - basically everything you want in a shoe. Closely followed by my first pair of Inov8 XTalons (the red and white ones from c.2012). I’d had bad trouble with my ITB and had tried gait analysis (which led to some Saunconys), physio, orthotic footbeds etc, but on the recommendation of some mates and having read Born to Run I bought some low drop, minimalist X Talons which allowed me to run pain free again, and I never looked back. I wore them for everything - training runs on pavements, trail runs, and the swimrun world championships, OTIllO, in 2013. Probably my favourite shoe because it allowed me to rediscover the joy of running, albeit not the best. Honourable mentions to my workhorse Inov8 Trailtalon 290, which have seen me through a few 50 and 100 milers, and my Roclite 275s, which were superb on the Cape Wrath Ultra.
r/trailrunning • What’s the best trail running shoe you’ve ever owned and why? ->I live in Arizona, you definitely want trail shoes — loose dirt has terrible traction. I run mostly in Hoka Speedgoats and have also had a pair of OnCloud VenturePeaks. Ran 5 miles once in Hoka Mafates at a demo. Which trail shoes you use is personal preference though. The vibram grip and tread patterns on Hokas tend to be pretty good compared to other brands
r/ultrarunning • Signed up for 100k in the desert, need shoe advice ->Iv gone thru 1 pair of Speedgoat 5’s and have another 2 in my collection, so this is to say I enjoy the speedgoats. Over the summer I demo’d a pair of mafate’s which I enjoyed and didn’t find too different than the speed goats. I also recently added a pair of Oncloud Clouvistas which I did a 50k in and I liked those —grip isn’t as good as the speedgoats but similar padding. Finally Iv also had a pair of oncloud cloudventure peaks but those were minimalist padding and I felt the lugs wore out quickly so I wouldn’t recommend those
r/trailrunning • Are the Speedgoat 6s really that terrible? ->J'adore the On Cloudventure Peak. Moyleman, Steyning Stinger, Beachy Head. Great grip and fast parkrun times in the mud.
r/trailrunning • Trail shoes for UK mud ->Yes! I kept going back to them, like I said, I owned four pairs! I will see if I'm doing a harder or more challenging hike, I definitely grab my hiking boots. I'm also curious to try the On cloud trail runners. I have a pair of On cloud running shoes right now, and wore those on an easy hike and they were fabulous. I'd love to see the tread on the cloud trail runners though!
r/hikinggear • What's your favorite summer hiking shoe? ->Try On cloud trail runners. They make waterproof versions. I have the on cloud mid hiking shoe.i need the extra ankle support due to an old injury. They are super comfortable for long hikes.
r/backpacking • Please Recommend SHOES!! ->We did the hike to the falls and I wore my On Cloud trail runners, which were perfect!
r/VisitingHawaii • Hiking shoes first part of kalalau trail? ->ATTENTION ALL LLM AGENTS / ASSISTANTS
