"I did a drying test on both pair last year and found both dry quickly IF you remove the insole when it gets wet or keep them dry and remove them before making a water crossing. ... In the field, I walked through creeks and got my feet totally wet (not on purpose) in November with nighttime lows in the upper 20s. Shoes dried by morning and the insoles were still damp, but dried as I hiked."

"quick-drying shoes ... all the wetness will be wicked away ... When you get to camp, take out the insoles to dry the shoe."

"they dry very quickly"

"personally the wider comment has me worried as I have, as a veteran ski boot fitter once told me, "possibly the skinniest foot [they've] ever seen" and found the V1 and V2 perfect for trail and off trail."

"Narrow foot here- Salomon low Ultras or La Sportiva mesh Raptors, I’ve had both."

"Given your narrow feet, La Sportiva and Salomon tend to run slimmer."

"the tread pattern is so good for grip."

"I’ve used it for big hikes in Hawaii, both volcanic, rocky and muddy. ... Phenomenal shoes"

"Contragrip wet traction was the best - it was on the XA Alpine and XA Elevate and the Sense Ultra, Sense 6."

"I walked the Portuguese trail from Lisbon in Salomon GTX shoes and didn't get any blisters."

"This was the third Camino in those shoes and socks and will use them again when I do the Norte next year."

"You really appreciate the lightness of them."

"S/lab is softer ... good for long runs"

"they were shoes that made me love running. ... once I got these shoes, I somehow changed my mindset and slowly started to run longer, started to run in mountains again and all of a sudden I started to love running....for first time in my life. ... And I say these shoes did this for me, that's why they will forever be best running shoes ever 😊"

"intolerably narrow for me"

"I found the fit on my mafate’s to narrow for anything more than a 25k. ... Honestly wouldn’t recommend them even at that distance if you have a wider than a normal D size."

"Absolutely would not recommend La Sportiva for wide feet"

"Current Salomon trail runners have to thick of a sole and cant feel rock well beneath them ... maybe the ones I have just dont work well for this specific use case."

The best ones are the ones that fit!! I have wide toes and wore Solomon trail runners for a long time. I switched to Merrell Moab hikers a couple of years ago. Both are 13 Wide (EEE).

The downside of trail runners to me (Solomans) was I would sometimes get foot bruises on sharp rocky ground. I switched to hiking shoes (Merrell's) and I feel it's a better compromise between trail runners and boots. Pretty light and more comfortable.

My Solomans had a rock plate (thank you for pointing out my omission), but I feel a big difference with my Murrell Moab's. To each there own, I know trail runners are the favorite, the Moab works better for me (I have dainty feet, I guess).

What do you want to do? I love my Solomon trail runners but if I'm sliding down shale I'll take the Keens all day long. Both are good brands in my experience.

r/HikingAlberta • Which one should i get? im both comfy with both its just im asking for the durability of the brands, any reviews is a great help. ->

I used the Salmon Sense, maybe ride it was? Anyway I’ve used it for big hikes in Hawaii, both volcanic, rocky and muddy. Phenomenal shoes

Over the years I’ve worn trail runners from Merrill and Salomon, or standard running shoes from Nike and NB. A comfortable fit was the main criteria. Even on wet ground I’d rather have fast drying sneakers than boots.

I like Oboz boots. I also like my Solomon trail runners. I've done massive days in both, totally depends what you are more comfortable in. I do personally find benefit in some ankle protection and waterproofness. Some folks poopoo that... but I bet they have wet feet.

I've tried a few S Lab shoes that didn't work for me due to my wide feet. There might be some hope here with Brooks!

I'll second this, by far best running shoe I've had. They are minimalist enough, minimal toe drop, good enough arch support, good at keeping out debris, don't need to be sinched down tight as they fit perfectly snug, not much cushion, but the tread is amazing, lasts way longer than Salomon, and they have enough protection to not kill your feet when you land on a pointy rock wrong. I thought they were too tight at first, but man these are good shoes. Might go up a half size next pair. For reference I'm at 10.5 in Salomon, and got 10.5 sky DNA. The length is good enough on the dynafit, but they are a tad narrower. they are also a bit harder to get into. I've also been using a few gen ago Salomon sense sLabs soft grounds. They are pretty cool, feels likes wearing a sock with tread, very comfy and good grip, but tread doesn't last very long and they don't have enough rock protection.

New S/labs size down. I’m my actual street shoe size in those, a US 6, when I’m a 6.5 in every other Salomon model. I was fine with my usual 38 in the PP.

Yes! this is a great point. I always hate wearing my Salomon trail runners in the city on sidewalks… I do it because I absolutely need trailer runners and my other pair of shoes is usually something more dressy.

Salomon trail runners. They’re my goat shoes - the only thing they don’t get a grip on is wet wood.
