Although the Salomon Sense Ride 4 has a special.place in my heart for being the shoe I used for my first 50k, the Norda 001 is by far my favorite shoe ever and the one I now go to 95% of the time...

I loved the Sense Ride 4. Haven’t found anything similar.

No, but I did use the Speedcross before. Switched to the Sense Rides for the lower drop. On my third pair now, after two pair of Sense Rides 4

Hi, I've been a fan of the Genesis since I first discovered them. For ultra running, I've always felt comfortable in the Altra Lone Peak and the Olympus. I've also worn the Salomon Sense Ride 4 for trail running; they're a bit narrow and stiff, but very responsive on technical terrain and very lightweight. The Sense Ride 5 is wider and softer, but less comfortable for my taste—I've only used them for runs of no more than 20 kilometers. With all of them, I’ve done well on wet terrain, including rock, but mud is another story—none of them let you run safely in it. But a couple of years ago, I tried the Salomon Genesis, the cheap, affordable training version of the Slab Genesis. But for those of us in the middle of the pack or further back, they’re more than enough. Like the rest of the previous ones, I’ve taken them everywhere. In fact, the first race I ran in them was on technical terrain—wet rock, crossing streams, lots of rain and heat; the mountains are like that sometimes. I was surprised by how light they are in my size, US 13/EU 48, weighing less than 300 grams. They’re very breathable; water flows in and out easily. They feel light and precise, and I don’t find them tight even after many kilometers. I weigh between 75 and 80 kg and have worn them in races up to 100 km. I might not consider wearing them for a 100-mile race, or at least do the first half in them and the second half in a pair of Olympus 275s. That said, I’ve worn out two pairs over 1,000 km; I’m on my third pair with 500 km, and I have three more in their boxes ready to hit the trails. If there's no mud, these are my favorites. When there is mud, the Thundercross offers almost the same performance, but without the Matryx fabric, so they're warmer—I only wear them in cold, muddy conditions.

Saucony Peregrine 15. Also got some Salomon sense ride 4s, hated them at first, now have over 1000km on them and the damn things won't quit.

Love the sense ride. Not the best shoe for a long race, but an amazing workhorse that doesn't wear with miles. Have done gravel and technical trails nearly 700km and looks like they can do another 700 easily.

These were the 4s,so the midsole is a little harder than later models. Pretty good all over. Not a standout, for a race I'll go to a Peregrine 15.

It’s mad to me that you find the Genesis narrow but the Sense Ride’s not narrow… I found the opposite to be true. The Sense Ride 5 felt so narrow and pointy at the toes, plus it had that rocker that felt weirdly aggressive to me. But I suppose we are all God’s unique and beautiful children… I miss the Sense Ride 3!

I miss my sense ride 3s. I really loves it for technical trails, scrambling and fast technical downhills. I use Norda 001 for those outings now and love them a lot. Not quite the same fit, but nonetheless a great option for what I do.

You will sacrifice speed with approach shoes so it depends if you want to hike or also do some running. I do everything in trail runners. I know people who bring climbing shoes for some objectives, but not the ones you mention. As long as your scrambling, I don't think you will need to bring more than 1 pair of shoes (bar if you do a snow/ice/glacier objective and want to bring mountaineering boots). Shoes I've worn: Salomon Sense Ride, Salomon Slab Genesis, Norda 001, Topo Mountain Racer. All give more more than enough grip and confidence on hard scrambles.

Fyi i talked to Salomon today trying to replace some defective Ultra Glide 2 and they said the 3 will not be released in the usa.  Bummer.  These were the closest I could ever find to my beloved Sense Ride 3’s.
