I had a pair. Was really disappointed with the grip on wet rock, so I used them exclusively for dirt and gravel roads for the next 600+ miles. Didn’t love them, but didn’t hate them either. Won’t be buying another pair.

Here’s my contribution. I haven’t done controlled tests like you did, but I run a lot of rocky vertical terrain and have put lots of miles in all these shoes. Trying to focus here on wet rock grip from the outsole and ignore other shoe attributes (fit, lock down, flexibility/stiffness, weight, cushion, etc) that also come into play with their overall ability to do the job on wet rock 5: VJ Maxx 1&2 VJ Spark Arcteryx Norvan VT (limited mileage) 4. Arcteryx Norvan SL 1, 2, &3 Salomon s/Lab Sense 7&8 Nnormal Kjeraq 3. La Sportiva Helios SR La Sportiva Vertical K & VK INOV-8 F-Lite 195 2. Whole bunch of older inov-8 x-talon and RocLite models NB minimus Salomon s/lab ultra 3 Salomon s/lab sense 7SG 1. Old Nike Terra kiger Salomon s/lab sense 1, 2, 3 For spiked shoes, I actually think they suffer quite a bit on rock because they don’t stick instantly like pure rubber soles. 4. VJ Devil 4 3. I swapped to Salomon S-Lab Ultra 3's and they are amazing. They are not as wide so I wear the thinnest merino socks with them for more space up front (I have normal-width feet). They're incredibly grippy and supportive while remaining sensitive. I find they dry even faster than the LPs.

I’ve been using Salomon Slab Ultra 3s and Hoka Speedgoat 5s for my main shoes for couple years. I needed some alternatives for Speedgoats as the 6th edition didn’t feel as comfy as 5s, so I decided to try Glide 3. My first impressions weren’t anything special. The shoes felt a bit dead. After maybe 70+kms they’ve started to feel much better, more responsive, and currently I use them for more relaxed runs (”do whatever runs”). I find them comfortable. Still rather opt for Slab Ultra3/Genesis when I know I’m gonna have a long haul on trails.

It’s different for everyone. I tend to have multiple pairs and I rotate. They also serve different purposes. Trail/threadmill/regular/race I tend to stick with the ones that work for me, and often buy 3 spare pairs when I stumble on a series I like. Often I also look at older models. If they were top 3 years ago, believe me, they are still good. Not worth the big price difference between models. I currently have the Mizuno Wave Inspire and Saucony Endorphin speed and Saucony Kinvara series for most normal trainings. Saucony Endurance pro and Mizuno Wave shadow for races. For trails depending on terrain Salomon Speedcross, Thundercross, XA Pro 3d (goretex) and S/lab ultra. Regular daily’s I loved the Wave Inspire series till v17. Then they changed and don’t like them anymore. Also looking for a good successor but most likely I’ll use the Kinvara’s more. Don’t follow trends and marketing. Test and feel. And really get more than one pair and rotate. It’s better for your feet too. And surfing for older models bargains can really pay off, certainly if you take the ugly colors no one buys 🥸

r/trailrunningBest salomon shoes 2026 for mixed trail miles?

I actually love my UG 3's! Loads of cushion for lon long runs on mixed terrain. Technical enough for 90% of mud and cushioned enough for hard surfaces, gravel and tarmac. A really decent all rounder for the long miles. Shoes are obviously such a personal choice!

I have used Zamberlain, Solomon Ultras, La Sportiva Prodigios, Arc'teryx Norvan, Topo Ultraventure, Altra Lone Peak, and I am currently using Kailas Fuga EX. Zamberlain - sole delaminated La Sportiva Prodigios - most comfortable yet not durable Solomon Ultras - too hot, heavy, fit was bit sloppy. Decent traction Topo Ultraventure - good toe box but not durable Altra Lone Peak - not for me Kailas Fuga EX - Best Grip, most durable, one of the lightest, took a bit of break-in and is now very comfortable (La Sportiva still is most comfortable), great on mud yet durable on pavement, runs narrow but they have a wide model with plenty of room. https://preview.redd.it/6l8apbqae0gg1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3631376751409ad88a8d3d4b91bc11f1133c8e6 sum of the attributes make it my current favorite I am a westerner living in Asia so availability may matter depending on your location. Most use cases are softer trails or mud with roots. Some pavement. Have used them in Southeast Asia and Nepal.

I've tried a few S Lab shoes that didn't work for me due to my wide feet. There might be some hope here with Brooks!
