"the Salomon Speedcross 6 works really really well for me, and not even in the wide size that they do make - just half a size up. ... Something about the upper design is extremely accommodating."
"I'm flat footed but I didn't need to switch out my insoles since the standard insoles are already comfy 😄"
"They just fit my foot too well to try something else."

"The tread is ultra durable. ... I play 300 days a year and they lasted about 18 months."
"Both Asics gortex and Salomon gortex Ive found to be the best I've used. ... I get probably 2-3000km out of them? ... Say 8km a day of sandstone gravel fire trails and rocky escarpments for a year. I would get 12-18 months out of them. ... Sometimes I just wear out heel rubber and foam is still good so I build it back up using Sikaflex or something to go another 6 month lol"
"My last pair I got in July 2024 and I put on them over 2,200 miles (in a year). ... I still wore my oldies today."

"But that also means less traction sa solid surfaces lalo na pag basa kaya bihira lang may gumagamit niyan sa trail races as there are lots of better options now."

"Anything beyond a sprint and those are a solid no for me."
"I find the drop and midsole too harsh for long-distance running, though. Anything longer than 20km, and my feet start hurting."
"the lugs are just so aggressive. ... It would probably not be suited to my use case"

I wear Salomon trail running shoes as my man everyday pair . https://a.co/d/0gyodgYk
Some will say otherwise but I think you can't go wrong with the Speedcross 6 GTX.
Gore-tex Salomon Speed Cross 6’s
Trail running shoes with gore tex. Examples: Salomon speedcross 6 gtx or Nike Pegasus trail gore tex. I use/used both and have great traction in snow, mud and icy conditions.
I have worn Salomon Speedcross GTX for years. My last pair I got in July 2024 and I put on them over 2,200 miles (in a year). I said it was time and now I have a new pair but I still wore my oldies today. Habits are hard to break.
Salomon Speedcross 6 GTX. I wear these year round. Get the GTX version - breathable Gore-Tex lining provides reliable waterproofing.
I guess you have to try them on. I also have wide feet. For some reason, mine fit perfectly. When it gets icy, I put cleats on over them for a little bit more traction. On hiking buddy got them too. Neither of us have twisted an ankle. Maybe we are lucky. The only time she has fallen was when she tripped on a branch running away from a bear!
I think once the type of shoe has been established it comes really down to preferences. Different models and manufacturers fit different to different people so the most important is finding something that feels comfortable. Something to consider is the sole of the shoe. Personally I like something that has really bites into the ground, but courses around me all tend to have turf teepads and quite soft ground for the most part, but I could see them being bit uncomfortable on harder and more grippier surfaces. But besides the basic point of trail running shoes there are no right or wrong answers, it is all about comfort, preferences and price point. Edit: For reference: I’ve been liking Salomon for myself, currently have Sense Ride 5 that I wear in the dry summer time and Speed Cross GTX 6 for wet/colder conditions and to some slippier courses in general.
I have the Speedcross 6 (GTX), and they have been perfect for snow and muddy conditions. I find the drop and midsole too harsh for long-distance running, though. Anything longer than 20km, and my feet start hurting. They also run narrow, so do try them on first. They are light and fast, but somewhat of a waste on less technical terrain.
I have the Salomon Speedcross 6 GTX and it's super comfy and super grippy! I'm flat footed but I didn't need to switch out my insoles since the standard insoles are already comfy 😄 Since it's a trail runner, it's not the most stable for the ankle but it's flexible enough to go through tight spots and hold on to little rocks when scrambling. It's also protective enough na thorns or sharp rocks didn't cut the sides or pierced through the shoe! The only issue I have lang is the GTX version isn't really for PH weather since mas "kulob" siya due the the waterproofing material (tested it during a stormy hike and totoo naman na waterproof talaga 😆) so mas mabilis uminit sa foot area and might be prone to blistering if you're not wearing the right socks (would reco wool socks for moisture wicking)
I wear xt6, xt4 and acs daily around town and for light hikes. I have some speed cross 6 gtx I wear for slightly more rough trails but prefer boots if I can for ankle stability.
They do. As a fellow Speedcross 6 wearer, I agree that their deep lugs make them good for running in winter. I don't bother with the GoreTex model personally, adds too much weight and frankly I don't mind my feet getting a bit damp if I'm wearing decent socks and only going 10 miles or less. But I'm in Colorado so "it's a dry snow".
