r/trailrunningTrailrunning shoe that is stable and soft

As several others have said, I have found the La Sportiva Prodigio Pros to be well-cushioned, stable, and grippy. I also recently tried the Salomon S/Lab Ultra Glide and the foam has a very similar nicely-cushioned feel, and the wide base felt stable. I only had a very very limited experience with them though, so I'm not sure how grippy they would be in the Alps.

I like the Salomon s/lab ultraglide, but I know a lot of people prefer the ultraglide 2

I’ve tried a few: Salomon Ultra Glide 1.5 is fast but narrow, Hoka Tecton X 2 is comfy but less quick, and Asics Metafuji Trail balances speed and traction well. Go for something light and grippy for long runs.

Aero Glide GRVL or if you want something a lot less bouncy Ultra Glide 3 or if you want something much firmer Genesis or if you want something much more expensive but still firm then S/Lab Genesis or if you want something less firm but still expensive with a little bit of bounce then S/Lab Ultra Glide 1.5. I would go with the GRVL personally, fantastic shoe.

salomon ultra glide 1, not the 2 or any subsequent iteration. The toebox really had the perfect shape I wish I got a couple extra pairs before they went extinct 🤷‍♀️

I wish they could bring back the exact same ultra glide ! Forcing innovation on something that’s already perfect for the sake of marketing kind of defeats the purpose

Just scooped these up! Glad I waited because I heard about the fit/leg rub issue. Put 5 miles on them tonight, so far so good! Don’t cinch up the laces too tight, only lesson I learned. Once I loosened them up these felt great. I have a 2, 1.5, 5, and 3 hour runs this week getting ready for a 50-miler and will report back on Sunday! For reference, I usually wear Nike and Salomon because of the fit. These are lighter than most of my Nikes, for reference, all in US size 14, the Ultra Glides are 387g, Zegama 2 is 409g, Wildhorse 10 is 426g, Ultrafly 355g, Genesis S/Lab 328g.

They are way faster than this runner, LOL. I got them because I heard the 1.0 felt like clouds on long runs.

That is my understanding as well. It felt good so far, though I didn’t have the 1.0 to compare against!

I have the AeroGlide 3 GRVLs and agree they are amazing! However, these do not fit the same. So far, I have noticed a very neutral arch, which I appreciate a little more support. I might switch to the AG3 for race day, or go back to the Zegamas. I am going to give them another long run, I have 5 hours on technical terrain with a lot of elevation and that should give me a good feel.

Alright, after putting about 55 miles on them in a week, with a lot of vert in there, I have to go back to the Zegamas for my upcoming race. They are not bad, but just don’t work for my feet. I have low arches and the Zegamas feel so much better. I tried some nice inserts to no avail. The only performance complaint I have is the grip on slippery surfaces, I had some issues with these that I hadn’t experienced with my Zegamas (Vibram) or Wildhorse 10s (Nike ATC). I’m sure they’ll work out for others, just not what I had hoped for. Went and scooped up a new pair of Zegamas.

r/trailrunningNot having a good experience finding cushioned trail runners. Have tried Asics Trabuco Max and Hoka Stinson.

I found the Trabuca Max to be a bit stiff. I ended up loving the Solomon S/lab Ultra Glide as it has dreamy cushion. It's a very high end running shoe with a matching price tag. I suspect many would consider it overkill for trail walking, but i like it for both.

I have the 1.0 (got them at a good discount) and I love them. Just did a 50k in them. I heard about the heel rubbing and lockdown issues. There is a little bit of heel slippage but I wear high enough socks that it was never an issue. Completely agree on not pulling the laces too tight. Almost lost a toenail that way!

I’m the same as you and love my Saucony lineup for road. I have yet to find a trail shoe I love (have tried Hokas, Topos, and Saucony). The closest I’ve come to a trail shoe I like is the Salomon S/Lab Ultra Glide. I don’t love the lacing system. I don’t *love* them overall but was able to get through a 50k and training okay. Curious to hear recommendations and what you end up going with!

r/trailrunningTrail running shoes with good wet rock grip

Contragrip wet traction was the best - it was on the XA Alpine and XA Elevate and the Sense Ultra, Sense 6. But since then it has gotten worse. The Ultraglide 1s were pretty terrible.
