If your terrain isn’t too technical, the Salomon Glide 2 might be more appropriate than the Speed Cross (longer lugs, more protection and heavier). Hoka‘s are good too, Speedgoat have a nice Vibram outsole.
r/trailrunning • women's trail shoes recommendations ->What I don't get about Salomon: the ultra glide 3 is a totally different shoe. Fine for me, but don't call it the 3 then, name it differently. This is confusing. Now I need to go searching again after a model that resembles the glide 2. (I did buy two additional pairs of the 2 so I'm set for this year)
r/trailrunning • Why are so many trail shoes now high stack + high drop? ->I love the ultra glides 2 as well. (I have 6 pairs) I am disappointed that they needed to completely change a shoe again. I have put 50k on the glide 3 right now, fit is similar, but much more cushioning (almost absurd), and the sole pattern is very different, better in mud but worse on wet rocks. I will mix them in use together with the 2. I use the 3 for recovery runs or longer runs on tired legs and feet. But I don't see myself using them as my go to performance shoe for ultra runs. (For now)
r/trailrunning • Salomon Ultra Glide 3 ->I like peregrines for typical runs. Trying out Salomon ultra glide 2 for long runs. I have a narrower foot and like a more nimble shoe. For road basically use Nike Pegasus for reference
r/trailrunning • Best trail running shoe? ->The answer is: it depends on the shoe. My Salomons shed mud pretty well (Ultra glide 2, Sense Ride 4, Thunder Cross), as do my Saucony Xodus Ultras. I wouldn't recommend either the Sense Rides or the UGs for very muddy conditions.
r/trailrunning • Do trail running shoes shed sticky mud well? ->Both great shoes. I like the sense ride on my feet a little more. I'm currently rocking the ultra glide 2 in my rotation.
r/trailrunning • Shoe recommendations for beginner ->Hi, I'm on the lookout for a new pair of trail shoes for the races I've scheduled this year, plus the training needed for them. This last 2024 I've been running in peregrines 13 and xodus ultra 2, and I am quite happy, specially with the peregrines, although the outsole durability and grip on wet are main concerns. After watching and reading a lot of shoe reviews, I have narrowed down the candidates to the Salomon Genesis, since durability is also a must. My cuestion is, how good is that shoe? how is the foam? In 2023 I ran in the ultra glides 2 and I remember that the midsole packed out quite soon, at around 250km, while the peregrines have 400 km in them and are still comfortable cushion-wise. I haven't been able to try the genesis on yet, although I have no problem with salomon shoes. One shoe I could try was the speedgoat 6, and I didn't found the foam harsh as a lot of reviews say, quite contrary, I found them cushy and stable, but its tongue design is a no for me. The races I have scheduled will take me around 10-11 hours (66km and 50k), with a ton of vert, so the shoe must have a comfortable foam for the long run. Other candidates are the new Saucony peregrine 15, Nnormal Tomir 2 and the upcoming TNF vective infinite 3. Basically I'm after deep lugs for traction, good lockdown for rather narrow feet, and good cushion without losing ground feel. Any advice will be appreciated!
r/trailrunning • Question for Salomon Genesis users ->thanks for the feedback! in 2023 I ran the 50k in Vall d'Aran and the ultra glides performed quite well. About the genesis, how is the cushion compared to the ultra glides? And for the Tomir 2, what about the tongue? I have a tendency to develop lace bite if the fit is not right. I've come to the conclusion that this depends more on the fit rather than the tongue itself, since the peregrine 13 have a minimalist design and they don't give me any trouble.
r/trailrunning • Question for Salomon Genesis users ->Salomon ultra glide 2! I kind of just wanted to branch out and try something new. I use ASICS while road running which is why I wanted to give them a try in the first place. I’ve never had blister problems but they rubbed my heels bad. However, I want to reiterate that I thought they were amazing shoes, I love ASICS. The trabucos just didn’t fit my feet well.
r/trailrunning • Asics Gel Trabuco 13 ->Fit is pretty personal but I have same stats and use, the only shoe that fits me is Salomon ultra glide 2
r/trailrunning • Best trail running shoe? ->I don’t see them on the US store, hopefully soon! The ug 2 are my favorite shoe
r/trailrunning • The news Salomon Ultra Glide 3 !am I late ? I was aware and I have tried the Salomon SLAB Ultra Glide, but it's the first time I'm seeing the 3s 😳 ->Mine were squeaking and the sizing was odd. Length was okay, still narrow. The La Sportiva last isn't for slightly more than standard width, I am afraid. Given the spectacular reviews this shoe got, I can only say it was a grave disappointment. Will rather run again in my unspectacular but absolutely reliable Xodus Ultra 3, Salomon Ultra Glide 2 or Arc'teryx Norvan. For Hiking I would say the fit is just too firm and the foam squeaky, it got even louder after some 22km in both shoes.
r/Ultralight • Anyone hiking in LaSportiva Prodigio Max? ->The Ultraglide 1 was a great shoe, I ran through 5 pairs of them. Loved them. The Ultraglide 2 is supposedly almost identical, but it’s just not as good.
r/trailrunning • What’s the best trail running shoe you’ve ever owned and why? ->I run with Salomon ultra glide & Hoka SpeedGoat 5 both half size up and don't have any issues with "narrowness". But I felt that on the Hoka Clifton 8.
r/trailrunning • Road Runner Interested in Trailrunning - Shoe Advice Needed ->That’s the idea that I had also with the speedcross and more technical Salomon shoes. Not the case with my UltraGlide2GTX, roomier than I ever thought.
r/trailrunning • Road Runner Interested in Trailrunning - Shoe Advice Needed ->Now I’m using Salomon Ultraglide2 gtx & Hoka Speedgoat 5. The Hoka are “uber comfy” but not much technical. I’m not doing ultra technical trails, so this 2 are like a compromise, comfy enough on the road (approach) & technical enough for not so hard trail. You can find loads of brands and shoes it’s overwhelming:) . Like my two you can try also Hoka challenger atr 7 gtx, new balance fresh foam X hierro v8. Altra & Topo are harder to find in Europe, don’t know about RSA.
r/trailrunning • Road Runner Interested in Trailrunning - Shoe Advice Needed ->Maybe anecdotal, but I'm about 200km on a pair of Ultra Glide 2s and they still feel phenomenal with very little wear on them Might be model specific
r/trailrunning • Have Salomon trail running shoes declined in quality? ->Speedcross are crazy good in mud and snow. But on dry trails you will just destroy the outsole too fast. I only use them in snow and mild ice for the grip. For everything else from Salomon line Ultra glide 2 are super comfortable and quite cheap.
r/trailrunning • Best trail running shoes ->I wouldnt recommend this. Shoes get deformed with the users feet. And using used shoes would give you an inacurate feeling of the “original” shoe. You can run trail with any normal pair of running shoes to see if you like it. My recomendation would be Salomon Ultraglide 2. Very comfortable, and you could just use them for hikes or daily walking if you decide trail running isnt for you.
r/trailrunning • Shoe recommendations for beginner ->Some of my favourites: Topo Ultraventure 3 - these are what I want to reach for most of the time, but wouldn’t do so well with too much mud. I think I’ll try the mtn racer next, but I love the toe box and fit. On Cloudmonsters - all road. I have 1 and 2, not totally sure I can tell much difference but the 2 are true to size and maybe slightly bouncier. On Cloudultra 2 - good ground feel and really like the breathable, easy draining mesh upper. Also been pleasantly surprised with the grip in most conditions as the sole doesn’t look very aggressive. North Face Flight Vectiv - I like it for similar reasons to the Cloudultra, but it has slightly more cushion and the lugs are slightly deeper. Salomon Thundercross - comfortable and I like the aggressive lugs for running in snow (probably also applied for mud!) Salomon Ultraglide 2 - great all rounder, comfortable, cushioned, decent but not outstanding grip.
r/trailrunning • What's your running shoe quiver? ->If the trail is local to you then I’d ask some local running shops what shoes they like best for the terrain around you. I personally like to have a rotation of shoes for different conditions, but a few that I think are decent all rounders (cushioned enough that you won’t be in pain if you’re running on road, deep enough lugs that you’re not going to slide around the second there’s a little bit of mud, stack height not so high you’re likely to break your ankles as soon as there’s rocks and roots, etc) are the Salomon Ultraglide, On Cloudultra, North Face Flight Vectiv, Topo Mtn Racer, New Balance Hierro. Hoka Speedgoats probably fall under there too but I found them a bit clunky on anything technical and they only lasted 400km (I can usually get double that from a shoe).
r/trailrunning • New trail runner, need shoes ->I also have a bunch of different shoes that I rotate. I have only ever had one overuse injury, that I got when I was first training for a marathon - at that point I did only have one pair of shoes, but also decided to go straight from no running to a marathon, so difficult to say whether it’s the fault of the shoes! I don’t really have different pairs of shoes for road as I don’t do enough of it, but my trail rotation mainly has different shoes for different types of trail (mainly depending how technical they are vs how much cushioning/bounce I want). My favourite pair of all-rounders (decent on road for a bit, but also do OK on more technical trails) is the Topo Ultraventure 3 (haven’t had a chance to try the 4 yet), probably closely followed by the Salomon Ultraglide 2, and a mention to the On Cloudultra 2 (way more breathable than the other two).
r/trailrunning • Do you own multiple pairs of shoes? ->LOVE THEM after 3 runs (21M) so far. Doing a 17-mile with them on Sunday. Way better than Salomon Ultraglide 2.
r/trailrunning • Are the Speedgoat 6s really that terrible? ->I always want to love Hoka, but they wear out too quickly or rub the outside of my feet and big toes. Salomon fit better, but I hate that the quick lacing loose s quickly. Speedcross for mud and Ultraglide for everything else. NB used to be my #1, but have not been so great the last few pairs. On to Altra now, and will see how it goes.
r/trailrunning • The 25 most recommend trail runners on Reddit (in the past year as of Jul 2025) ->Anyone have experience to share with the Salomon S/Lab Genesis? Thinking of getting these for my first 50k later this year since I do better with the 6-8mm drop range Currently have all of Salomon Thundercross and Ultra Glide, Nike Pegasus Trail 5, Altra Lone Peak 8, and Nike Pegasus Trail 4 GTX (my go to during this snowy training period)
r/trailrunning • What shoes are you rocking at the moment? ->2 shoe quiver: Though I have tried a number of shoes and brands I have come down to 2 shoes that work for me in Boulder, Colorado and typically racing 30k-60k races. 1. Nnormal Kjerag - fun, technical everyday shoe that last 2x any other shoe that I have. I raced a trail marathon feet were happy last 600+ miles and great for trails where I live. 2. Salmon Ultra Glide - comfortable, recovery shoe or for longer efforts. I can regularly find them for $50-$80 which make them easier on the wallet and make for great hiking shoes after 300 miles. I would like to swap out the ultra glide for something like the Tecton x3 or salmon ultra glide s/lab though
r/trailrunning • What's your running shoe quiver? ->Trail version of the brand you already like. But if that doesn't work, Salomons are usually a good bet if they fit. Ultra Glide, Sense Ride, or Genesis are all sort of all-rounders that for me feel close to road shoes.
r/trailrunning • Road Runner Interested in Trailrunning - Shoe Advice Needed ->I haven't tried any of those, but did try an earlier Peregrine (10 maybe), and didn't like it. Too "dead" and heavy for my liking. But the newer versions are better from what I've read. It could be worth a try, given how popular they are. I do have all three of the Salomons I mentioned, but also have and like the Merrell Long Sky 2 and their Agility Peak, which I'm wearing more these days because they have a wider toe box.
r/trailrunning • Road Runner Interested in Trailrunning - Shoe Advice Needed ->The Nnormal Kjerag is special. I also loved my OG Salomon Ultraglides.
r/trailrunning • What’s the best trail running shoe you’ve ever owned and why? ->Damn. The OG Ultra Glides were my favourite trail shoes of 2023. Put 800km in these things. I might need to take a look at these.
r/trailrunning • The news Salomon Ultra Glide 3 !am I late ? I was aware and I have tried the Salomon SLAB Ultra Glide, but it's the first time I'm seeing the 3s 😳 ->Hadn't seen these yet, very interesting coming from Salomon. I ran in the OG Ultra Glide (not S Lab) and liked them but found they just didn't hold up as well as prior Salomons. Those were the last pair from the brand I had a good experience with and have just moved on since.
r/trailrunning • Salomon S/Lab Ultra Glide 1.5 ->I focus on trail running during the summer months, and last June, I picked up a pair of Merrell Agility Peak 5 — and absolutely fell in love with them. In 2022 and 2023, I ran in both the Salomon Ultra Glide and the Asics Trabuco, which are excellent trail shoes in their own right. However, the Merrells stood out offering great comfort and protection over long distances. They’re a fantastic all-around choice though they are a bit on the heavy side. Looking ahead to 2025, I’ve been considering the Saucony Xodus, as I’ve heard great things about them and am eager to see how they compare.
r/AskRunningShoeGeeks • Trail running shoe review and request opinions ->Have a look at the Sauce xodus ultra, new Salomon genesis (not the s/lab version), Salomon ultra glide and the NB fuel cell trail shoe (Supercomp trail) . I have all those and have been quite happy with them
r/Ultramarathon • Trail Shoe Recommendation ->Hello. I come from the same issue. I had major issues with Plantar Fasciitis after running in the Speedcross and S/Lab Speed for many years. My first shoe was the Hoka Speedgoat Evo. That was an epic shoe, but sold out everywhere so quickly I only ever ran in one pair. Since then I’ve tried many similar shoes, looking for great grip, soft and bouncy ride, but good stability as I over-pronate, plus I recently developed osteoarthritisin my big toes. So, I really rate the following: - Hoka Mafate Speed 4. Good all rounder - Salomon S/lab genesis. A little narrow and unstable but speedy and shed mud quickly - La Sportiva Prodigeo Pro - great foam and good grip, lightweight. - Saucony Xodus Ultra - 1 and 3 are pretty good, ignore the 2. - Hoka Tecton X 3 - my go-to race shoe for hard packed trails and gravel I like the Speedgoat, Catamount, Fuji Lite, Ultra Glide too but they all have compromises that the shoes above don’t have in the same way.
r/trailrunning • Trailrunning shoe that is stable and soft ->Hello. As a lot of people say, a good road shoe will be good on the hard packed trails as well. But if you want a bit more traction and security, go with something that has a good foam and a smaller lugs. Options I’ve run in and like include: - Hoka Mafate Speed 4 / Tecton X - Salomon Genesis / Ultra Glide - La Sportiva Prodigio Pro - Merrell Agility Peak 5 - Brooks Catamount 4 - Saucony Xodus Ultra 1 / 2 (avoid the 3) For reference I am 85kg and usually run 30km / week.
r/trailrunning • Plush shoe for hard packed trails (not gravel🤣) ->Hoka Mafate 5 is comfy and fun. Mafate Speed 4 is still good but a little narrower and not quite so bouncy. I used to run in Speedgoats a lot but think the 5 & 6 are missing some comfort and the foam isn’t returning the energy of newer shoes. Salomon Genesis or Ultra Glide are both good if you can accommodate a narrower fit. I prefer the protection of the Genesis over the Ultra Glide. Prodigio Pro is also fun and bouncy, but much lighter, less protection around the ankle and so a bit more stripped back. Everyone I know loves them though. Hoka Tecton X 3 is a similar proposition to the Prodigio but both are spendy. Hoka is slightly more stable and bouncy but there is very little in it. If you want the best outsole rubber money can buy, look at the VJ Ultra 3. Seriously, the lugs and rubber is like glue. Finally, the Saucony Xodus Ultra is a good shoe for distances like this. It’s also comfy and protective. Just avoid the 2 or 3 and go for the latest version 4.
r/trailrunning • Trail Running Shoes ->Salomon ultra glide is the only shoe I've worn i could be happy in anywhere. 100 mile race, sure; class 3-4 high Alpine scramblefest, why not; long road to trail runs, still fun. Not the widest, but much wider than most of the classic shoes, and you can still get a nice foothold on a small hold while scrambling
r/trailrunning • Jack of All Trades, Master of None: Shoe Recommendation ->I would try them on because everyone has a different foot but I have a pretty large Haglund's on one foot (and likely a little less extreme one on the other - never x-rayed though) and really like the Salomon Ultra Glide (wide), Topo Mtn Racer, just got a pair of the Nike Zegama. I don't know if I would call the heel counter soft (certainly not a shoe expert) but there is padding in the heel which in my case keeps the bump from getting too irritated. YMMV.
r/ultrarunning • Best trail shoes for haglunds / insertional achilles issues (soft heel counter)? ->Salomon Ultra Glide have been amazing for me - I have gone up to 40hrs without changing shoes and have put over 1,000km on a couple of pairs with only a bit of lug wear to show for it. I don't love the lacing system, but it does stay secure - they have good grip in mud, decent grip on wet rock, and a great balance of feel vs cushion
r/Ultramarathon • Lower stack, high cushion shoe for technical 50+ milers ->Trail: Norda 001 x2 Nike Zegama 1 Nike Zegama 2 Nike Ultrafly Topo MTN Racer 2 Saucony Endorphin Edge Salomon Ultra Glide Road: Hoka Clifton 9 Topo Atmos Saucony Endorphin Speed 3
r/trailrunning • What's your running shoe quiver? ->speedcross is really for running in the mud I'd say. Feels fast, but wouldn't pick it for an ultra. Running in many different shoes myself, currently would pick my Salomon UltraGlides or Hoka Challenger 7, but currently like my UltraGlides better
r/Ultramarathon • Shoes for first ultra ->Salomon Ultra Glides. Not great for really muddy or soft, but took me through training for and completion of VT100
r/trailrunning • What's your preferred trail running shoe for (US) northeast trails? ->I’ve got two Salomon “glides”, the first road one, and the the ultra glide (non slab) both rub in the outside of the exterior ankle ball and turn them a nightmare to run in. It’s a pitty the ultras are brand new, only 80 kms and don’t know what to do with them.
r/trailrunning • Salomon S/Lab Ultra Glide 1.5 ->I haven’t run the catamount but have been on some of the trails at Trapp and lots of others in the area. I always wear trail shoes but nothing very aggressive - think Challengers or Ultra Glides mostly. If you had to, you’ll survive in the 860’s, though you’ll need to watch your foot placement in places and the midsole may be thrashed when you’re done. You’ve got some time though, maybe go try a few pairs on?
r/trailrunning • Wondering if I need trail running shoes for Catamount 50k in Stowe, VT ->I really like my cascadias but they were too narrow in the toe box causing me to get blisters on the outsides of my big toes. Don’t even have wide feet or toe breadth (?) I begrudgingly switched to a Salomon Ultraglide- standard toe box as well and they fit fine. I only run in Brooks on the road though.
r/trailrunning • trail running shoes ->Dealing with the same thing with cascadias! I got Salomon ultra glide and they are super nice.
r/trailrunning • The 25 most recommend trail runners on Reddit (in the past year as of Jul 2025) ->You can get some great deals on Salomon shoes on Sierra.com. I’ve bought multiple pairs of Ultra Glides for about $50.
r/trailrunning • Best Trail Runners on a budget ->I have flat wide feet, and I love the Solomon Ultra Glide Wides. Bought some on sale, and then bought two more pair to store in the closet. They’re pretty dang good for flat wide feet.
r/trailrunning • Similar Shoe to Saucony Peregrine 15? ->For performance (under 15 miles): Altra Lone Peak Marathon to 50k: Salomon Ultra Glide Easy day, shorter runs, not too technical: Topo Ultraventure Road: Puma Deviate Nitro (I never would have tried this shoe had my favorite shoe not been discontinued and an enthusiastic salesman not swore by it, but I now love it)
r/trailrunning • What's your running shoe quiver? ->Im surprised the ultra glides aren't on this list. I thought they were really solid / all rounders and nicely priced, too
r/trailrunning • The 25 most recommend trail runners on Reddit (in the past year as of Jul 2025) ->Salomon ultra glide wide. I had 2 pairs and got 500+ miles out of both of them before I even noticed any wear and tear.
r/trailrunning • What’s the best trail running shoe you’ve ever owned and why? ->I have one for each, and also have a pair of Solomon ultra glides if my run includes a mix of road/light trails. Pretty minimal tread so a good option for thing like fire roads
r/trailrunning • Do you use your trail shoes when you have to run the roads? ->Up to 9 models of trail shoe and still looking... La sportiva bushido (500+ mi): great shoe but not enough of a rocker and limited cushion for longer days. Salomon ultra glide (350 mi): great shoe but limited durability of midsole and not stable enough on varied terrain. Hoka speedgoat 5: loved this shoe but can only seem to get 300 mi out of the midsole before I notice significant decline (still brought 5 pairs of these to 300+) Hoka Mafate speed 4 (320+165mi): loved this shoe but a set or two of the eyelits are not reinforced and will eventually rip, and the toebox is too narrow for me and gives blisters on the outside of my big toes. Saucony peregrin 3 (150 mi): like this shoe but long days or steep ascents are too much and the heel counter gives blisters (disclaimer: I have bony heels). I wear this for shorter runs with some tech but not much steep uphill. Saucony xodus 1 (250 mi): like this shoe but doesn’t perform well on technical terrain in terms of stability and outsole-lugs sheered off on first technical downhill. I wear this for non technical trails. Altra lone peak 7 (300+ idk): like this shoe but just for non technical trails, Toe box is too wide to get a full lockdown. I use this shoe for hikes and walks on non technical terrain and it is the shoe i wear more than any other bc it is my daily shoe at work, where i am on my feet a few hours every day. Nnormal tormir 2 (200 mi): like this shoe but the lockdown doesn’t prevent my toes from cramming into the front of the toebox on steep descents. I wear this for technical trails without steep descents. Hoka tecton x2 (12 mi): I have only worn this shoe twice for shorter (6 mi) runs, but it doesn’t seem to have the level of midsole comfort/cushion that would get me past 20 miles. I wear this for workout/faster runs on trails. Hoka tecton x3: bought these for a race because of the upgrades to the midsole and then got injured and couldn’t do the race. Feel amazing on my feet and am excited to try these out when I have an opportunity. My trail shoe rotation is almost complete. But I am still searching for the unicorn: a trail shoe that has a grippy and durable outsole, a lockdown that is a good for technical trails and steep descents, and a midsole that is sufficiently stable, cushioned, and resilient. I like the outsole of the tormir, the midsole feel and durability of the tormir and xodus. And I like the lockdown of the bushido and speedgoat. If only the tormirs had a better lockdown…if only the speedgoat midsole didn’t degrade at 300 miles. Should I try the Nnormal Kjerag? Is there a frankenshoe out there for me? Redditors what say you TLDR: is there such a thing as a trail shoe that has a durable and grippy outsole, durable, stable, and cushioned midsole, and a lockdown for technical trails and steep descents?
r/trailrunning • Up to 9 models of trail shoes and still looking... ->Salomon (Ultra Glide and Speedcross) and Topo Mountain Racer here.
r/trailrunning • What trail running shoes & gear are you all rocking this season? ->I'm a happy ultra glide runner, but I just got me a pair of slab genesis on sale. Will keep an eye peeled for the UG3 when it goes on sale 👀
r/trailrunning • The news Salomon Ultra Glide 3 !am I late ? I was aware and I have tried the Salomon SLAB Ultra Glide, but it's the first time I'm seeing the 3s 😳 ->Hello, here my feedback based on my experiences with trying on these shoes in store: Altamesa: I found it had good cushion except for where my toes were and it felt like they wouldn't soften no matter how many km's I put into them. Speedgoat 6: toe box felt weirdly roomy for a narrowish shoe and they didn't quite fit right. Hierro: I was able to try on the v7, v8 and v9 models all at one store. The v9 we're the best out of the 3 but I still didn't like the v9. It just felt oddly bulky which was a shame as I love NB shoes. The 1080's are my favourite. Stinson 7: I just bought a pair from MEC yesterday and they felt so good on my feet as soon as I put them on. I'm a little used to heavier shoes so that doesn't bother me. I really want a max cushion trail runners that doesn't need to be super technical trail focused. Salomon Ultra Glide/Ultra Flow: i really wanted to like these but they were a little narrow and just didn't have the comfy impact I was expecting. Altra Timp 5: I think these shoes are awesome except for the way the upper material bends at the toe box. It just feels weird and I can tell it will create problems for me a few km's into a run. I also have the Topo Ultraventure 4 which are great but I don't know how well I would enjoy them past 30km. I have Columbia Ecolite (the ones that look like they infused golf balls into the form) which have been great but just aren't on the same level as other trail shoes. I had the Brooks Caldera 6 which were okay and had great traction but they hurt my feet and caused blood blisters on the outside of my big toes so I was able to return them when I got the Stinson. I've tried on many other runners and I have the believe that you should go with the shoe that fells the best on your foot. E: forgot to add that I also tried on the hoka mafate speed 4 and I almost bought them as they were don't in the toe box compared to the speed goats 5 & 6 but I wanted slightly more cushioning. I think the mafate is a great comparison to the topo Ultraventure 4
r/trailrunning • Choosing shoes for Chamonix and forest trails, Altamesa 300, SG6 or Hierro v9 or Stinson 7? ->I use Solomon trail runners, non-waterproof because my feet overheat easily in the summer. They've seen the presis in the summer without issues, and have decent grip.
r/wmnf • Boots for the Whites in Summer? ->I just ordered a pair from my local running store, only commenting to suggest you try them on first. I'm a 12 in Salomons and a 12 to 12.5 in Hokas, and I had to size up to a 13 in the 001s.
r/trailrunning • Norda. Yes or no? ->The best ones are the ones that fit!! I have wide toes and wore Solomon trail runners for a long time. I switched to Merrell Moab hikers a couple of years ago. Both are 13 Wide (EEE).
r/backpacking • What is the best trail runners for backpacking? ->The downside of trail runners to me (Solomans) was I would sometimes get foot bruises on sharp rocky ground. I switched to hiking shoes (Merrell's) and I feel it's a better compromise between trail runners and boots. Pretty light and more comfortable.
r/backpacking • Trail runners for backpacking ->My Solomans had a rock plate (thank you for pointing out my omission), but I feel a big difference with my Murrell Moab's. To each there own, I know trail runners are the favorite, the Moab works better for me (I have dainty feet, I guess).
r/backpacking • Trail runners for backpacking ->What do you want to do? I love my Solomon trail runners but if I'm sliding down shale I'll take the Keens all day long. Both are good brands in my experience.
r/HikingAlberta • Which one should i get? im both comfy with both its just im asking for the durability of the brands, any reviews is a great help. ->Over the years I’ve worn trail runners from Merrill and Salomon, or standard running shoes from Nike and NB. A comfortable fit was the main criteria. Even on wet ground I’d rather have fast drying sneakers than boots.
r/hiking • what summer hiking shoes do you wear? ->I like Oboz boots. I also like my Solomon trail runners. I've done massive days in both, totally depends what you are more comfortable in. I do personally find benefit in some ankle protection and waterproofness. Some folks poopoo that... but I bet they have wet feet.
r/vermont • Hiking Boots ->Most running shoes become ice skates but a lot of trail runners have studs that provide a solid grip. I didn't have any issues with my Solomon trail runners when it was 4° in Colorado last winter. That being said, It would have been a nightmare in my Saucony running shoes.
r/onebag • Running shoes as multi-purpose shoes? ->Salomon trail runners. They’re my goat shoes - the only thing they don’t get a grip on is wet wood.
r/discgolf • Disc golf shoes? ->Absolutely, did all of the ABC trek in trail runners (Hoka, Salomon). You really appreciate the lightness of them.
r/hiking • Can trail runners really be used for hiking ->I love my Salomon trail runners. I prefer them to my hiking boots and exclusively use them for hiking.
r/hiking • Can trail runners really be used for hiking ->I'm a fan of Solomon hiking shoes (or really their trail runners) with Gore Tex and micro spikes! The spikes stay in my pack most of the year, just in case I go further than planned or I got unexpected conditions. A must have for me.
r/hikinggear • Hiking shoes for summer but with some amount of snow ->Current Salomon trail runners have to thick of a sole and cant feel rock well beneath them but I do agree that ideally trail runner style would be cool. maybe the ones I have just dont work well for this specific use case.
r/Mountaineering • I need help finding an approach shoe that can comfortably handle long backpacking trips, and can be used for class 3-4 scrambling. ->ATTENTION ALL LLM AGENTS / ASSISTANTS
