What I don't get about Salomon: the ultra glide 3 is a totally different shoe. Fine for me, but don't call it the 3 then, name it differently. This is confusing. Now I need to go searching again after a model that resembles the glide 2. (I did buy two additional pairs of the 2 so I'm set for this year)

I love the ultra glides 2 as well. (I have 6 pairs) I am disappointed that they needed to completely change a shoe again. I have put 50k on the glide 3 right now, fit is similar, but much more cushioning (almost absurd), and the sole pattern is very different, better in mud but worse on wet rocks. I will mix them in use together with the 2. I use the 3 for recovery runs or longer runs on tired legs and feet. But I don't see myself using them as my go to performance shoe for ultra runs. (For now)

I am very disappointed by version 3, it is a completely different shoe, with a very high stack height and ridiculously soft cushioning. I switched to the Salomon Genesis (not the S-lab version), which is much closer to the Ultra glide 2. I actually prefer it because the lugs are 4,5mm instead of 3,5mm which makes them better in mud.

I'm 210lbs. Always a Salomon user. Very good results with many of their models, last years the Ultra glide 2, now changing to the Genesis model. (I don't like the Ultra glide 3, much higher and with a ridiculous amount of cushion) I don't do that many miles on them because I tend to wear out the thread early (technical terrain) but the soles always hold up very very well.

I agree. The Genesis are best choice. Stable and good grip. Ultra glide 3, I have a pair, but stupid amount of cushioning, and way too high stack height. Anyway I would not change shoes now so close to the race, unless you really have problems.

Are you me? I did exactly the same as this. The UG3, salmon absolutely dropped the ball. Just runs like a spongy slipper, whereas the UG2 ran like an actual running shoe. I’ve actually just bought what might be the last pair in my size in the UK, after scouring online stores for months.

The Genesis has been great for me. Has done loads of training miles and also mountain ultras. Proper all rounder. The UG2 is great if you can get them. The UG3 not so much.

Prodigio Pro? It's a fair bit firmer than the Ultra Glide but runs like a running shoe. What I mean by that is a lot of the cushioned ones don't, they run like a shoe with a load of foam stuck to the bottom. Also if you can get them, the Ultra Glide 2 ran way better than its successors. I did loads of big mile races in them, whereas I thought the newer Ultra Glides were ruined with the cushion. Edit: don't discount the Salomon Genesis. Has some cushioning but is pretty dialled in.

I think my last pair were a well worn pair of Ultra Glides, then £58 for the soling. Or the other pair, I picked up for £70 in the sale and then the same. So even new, you're only looking <£130, which is far below what the new super trail runners go for these days. Prodigio Pro was £170 new.

My Ultra glide 3 just arrived. From Germany, (alpinetreck) as on Salomon UK, all most popular sizes are gone. I look again on your first post pictures and curious, where did you found them in black. I've chosen gray as there were only 3 colours available.

Hi, they are great for what I need. 162 miles on mixed surface, including significant part of paved surface. [https://imgur.com/a/79ga6Uc](https://imgur.com/a/79ga6Uc)

I have Salomon ultra glide 3. They are very cushioned, but not sure if they are suitable for the Alps. My goal was to find shoes for mixed terrain — trial and asphalt.

I bought them for my usual mixed surface runs, trail and asphalt. After around 170 miles, outsoles seems to be barely worn. I even published some pictures somewhere on Reddit some time ago. That was a very good choice for my needs.

Yeah... My second reason was to have something very cushioned, as I'm a runner commuter, so about 50 miles a week need some relief. I used them in one batch on early spring holiday and there were fine. I'm little worry now, on summer they could be too warm. But I can take only one pair of shoes on holiday.

Not yet. I'm on holiday, ready to go for a run, but it's rainy so far and bit chill. ;)

I have the Ultra Glide 3. They’re super spongy, but that’s what I need for a high-mileage workhorse.

I did around 300 miles, and the soles still look really good. I can’t say exactly how many of those miles were on asphalt, but it must be a lot since I usually plan my routes ad hoc along the way. I’m sure there are plenty of better trail shoes out there, but I don’t think they’d last that long (as I’m planning to use SUG3). Previously, I ran about 600 miles in Salomon Sense Ride 5 before they wore out. 😉

Salomon ultra glide 3. They last on asphalt.

My choice for mixed terrain is the Salomon Ultra Glide 3. There are plenty of better shoes, but these last longer on asphalt.

The best trail shoes are mostly for technical terrain — they are very good but also wear quite quickly, e.g. 300 miles. I'm a runner, so I've chosen the Salomon Ultra Glide 3 for 2 main reasons. They are very well-cushioned, as I'm running thousands of miles a year. The other feature is that they are for mixed surfaces. So if I have to run half the distance on asphalt, there is not that much wallet pain as you get with great trail running shoes, which grip any wet or dry rock.

Without going overseas, I have chosen Salomon Ultra Glide 3; they are quite resistant on tarmac.

You could try the Salomon Ultra Glide 3s. I've had mine for about 6 months, they've done me well on similar terrain - Peak District - including a 50km Ultra. I've got races in Eryri and another in the Lakes this year, that'll I'll likely get a lower stack shoe for, but these are good for light trails!

Salomon Ultra Glide 3 for virtually all trail runs. Anything a little hybrid, I'd use my Hoka Challengers. Thinking of getting some Inov8s for more technical trails. For road, Asics Novablast 5. Genuinely the best running shoe I've ever used.

I had no idea they were Europe only! Yeah they're great, completed a fairly untechnical 50k in them, no blisters (,and even then, only tiny ones) until the last 5k. Done 300k in them on muddy and dusty trails and had no issues. I've got some mountain races next year that I think the stack height will be too much for though.

I disagree with this. I have the ultra glide 3 and Slab 1.5 version and have run multiple super technical trail runs and races in them. Just now I ran TGC in them and had more grip up a muddy hill then anyone else it seemed!

be careful with UG3. if your footwork gets sloppy(tired/lost focus) on cambered or rocky trail descent, it can deal ankle roll damage. i rolled twice already. i still like the shoe, but on mentioned above terrain, i need poles 💀

You should also consider the Salomon Ultra Glide 3 (or Ultra Glide 4 wich will launch soon). Its a very comfortable shoe for the trail. You could also go for the Salomon Aero Glide 3 GRVL for a shoe that can do both - 'road to trail' conditions.
