I haven't really been a regular Salomon trail runner, as I've always leaned towards other brands, but lately I've been using the Genesis and the Ultra Glide 4. They're pretty different, but both are awesome on the right trails. The Genesis especially—since that's the one you mentioned—is a really solid, well-made, and tough shoe. Despite my lack of experience with the brand, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
North Face Enduris 4 or On Cloudultra Pro are super comfy(biased I have both). Trabuco is pretty soft, its a higher volume shoe imo. I have tried Ultra Glide 4 and its pretty cushy and stable. Also, Wildhorse if you have a lower volume foot.
Oh their actual trail shoes are awesome. The ultra glide 4 is in my top 5 of all time best trail shoes ever. I use the Thundercross as my hiking shoe. I think a big part is just being an informed consumer. It's partially why I respond here on Reddit. I want people to be happy with what they get and don't think a brand is crap because they bought an inappropriate shoe for what they need. I think what hurt them the most is when they got sold, same with their sister brand arteryx, the larger corporation that controls them wants to make more money, so like you said cheaper materials higher prices. Big corporations doing what they do. So I think it goes back to knowing what is good vs what is crap, but also getting what you need. Kinda the right tool for the job situation.
They are a bit snug for my normal width feet but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Only tried them on gravel and very limited technical terrain and felt fine. I like cushioned and a bit firm shoes but I think they are a bit more firm for my liking but still decided to keep them. I’m not crazily in love with them but seem to do the job. Will put them to the real test in 3 weeks in a 25K, 1000m elevation trail race.
It’s kind of crazy, I tried a colorway I didn’t like and it felt the right amount of firm and bouncy. I decided to return them and get another colorway but that was more firm and less bouncy. I have a total of 2 runs and 35K so far but hoping they will get where I want them to be eventually like having a break in period but kind of doubt they will. Should have kept the initial colorway but it never crossed my mind they would feel so different.
Just got them and will try them out on gravel and a little technical run on Sunday. I was in between two sizes and got the larger one. There’s something I don’t like about this shoe but I can’t pinpoint what exactly. Still on the box and have until Sunday to decide if I keep them or not.
Yes the newest. I should have gotten the 3 since I read they snugged up the upper on the 4 but no stock of the 3 in my size. And I wish there were better colorways tbh
Ultra Glides are plush? Mine must have skipped QC.
Fellow speedgoat enthusiast here that hated the 6's in size 13 and 14. Just got a pair of Salomon Ultra Glide 4's and they're excellent. The lugs might be too aggressive if you only run super buffed trails.
Great shoe, completed several hundreds in the Ultra Glide 2s and really pleased with the 4s. Sense Pros used to be my go to, but switched to something a bit more plush for longer distances. Good cushion and grip but still feels nimble with decent groundfeel.
I switched from Sense Ride to Ultra Glide a couple years ago... Definitely my favorite shoe at the moment. About just as roomy, and a bit more plush which my feet really appreciate in the long run. I also really liked everything about the Aero Glide GRVL, except the lace loops (eyelets?) on the 3s were placed as such they bruised the top of my foot... Looks like the 4s redid the lacing, so I might give them another go. Really fun shoe.
Dude keep your head still, you'll make yourself dizzy! 😂 I'm sure you'd be fine in either, which ever you're most comfortable with (I'd lean towards the Salomons but that's just because I like them - I think most people would prefer the Nike's). Good luck OP.
They are solid! They also come in a wide which is awesome!
