Favorite brand for trail shoes is Saucony. Their overall approach seems to work best for me across shoes. The Peregrine line has been the best do-it-all shoe for me, and I like it on long runs even though it seems marketed as a light and speedy type. The Endorphin Edge was great in so many ways, only severely bottlenecked by an outsole that was aggressively frail (I had large chunks missing after 30 miles on tame terrain). That said, my favorite trail shoe is the Terrex Agravic Speed. I haven't tried any of the other Terrex shoes, but grabbed this one on sale once and it's very fun. It's definitely heavily geared for non-technical courses. The tread depth is pretty shallow, it's light, bouncy, and very fast if you are on runnable terrain. No rock plate but enough stack that it's not an issue. I've taken it up to HM distance very comfortably, and would consider it for longer if the terrain was appropriate.
Have experienced absolutely horrific wet rocks grip with Salomon and saucony trail shoes. Saucony were the endorphin edge Salomon i cant remember which model
Endorphin edge had a great ride but holy shit the rubber has zero grip on wet surfaces. It was closer to ice skating than running. Closest to them in terms of feel would be the adidas agravic speed ultra, really roll you through the stride like a road shoe but not the most stable. Carbon trail shoes have moved away somewhat from being ultra responsive. They are now more stable than they were and offer more control for the foam. Endorphin edge used a road plate and geometry which is why it was a fast but unstable shoe on technical terrain. Personally loved it for open firetrail
The endorphin edge had the scariest rubber i have ever come across. Literally zero grip on wet rocks. Fast and fun on open firetrail but that was about it for me.
I tried the PDX and Tam 2 years ago and currently run in the MTC R1 (~100 miles) and T1 (~50 miles). I don't have them side by side though. The Speedlands were ok but nothing special, there were already other fast shoes like Nnormal Kerag and Salomon Pulsar series, and long run/ultra shoes like the Saucony Endorphin Edge that worked great for me at a fraction of the price and lighter to boot. I don't care for boa, they add to costs, bulk, maybe weight and for me would be a hardware solution for a minor problem having to do with attention to detail when just lacing up. R1 fits my feet well which is a major item for me, durability is good so far, and runs well enough. Will take time to compare to the Endorphin Speed 3s I enjoyed for a few years because I could get 900-1000+ miles/pair out of them and the current Endorphin Speed 4s are notably too narrow. T1 is what the Speedgoat or MTN Racer could be. Fits my wide feet well, good amount of bouncy cushioning that I don't feel like I'm fighting when picking up the pace, and solid traction.
I have >200 miles in my Nnormal Tomir 2s, spanning short steep runs to 20 mile runs with >5,000 feet of climbing at altitude. Previously ran in Saucony Xodus Ultra, Endorphin Edge, and Endorphin (g)rift. Traction and durability on the Tomir 2 are great. They are on the firm side, even with the mileage I put on them so far, and lean on fast feeling given my previous shoes. I would want more underfoot cushioning for anything beyond a marathon or 50K. To me, these are medium generalist leaning shoes, great for racking up miles and training. Fit was a touch too narrow at first, I have wide feet. Took around 50 miles for the insole to pack down and the upper to stretch and flex a bit. Fits comfortably snug now. For the long stuff I am using the Mount to Coast T1. Comfortable fit for my toes, good underfoot cushioning, yet light and fast enough that I don't feel like I'm working too hard when running uphill or picking up the pace. I have ~80 miles on them so far, really just a few long runs, they're great. Durability looks good but need to take them out to at least 200 to say more. If these still look good after 300 miles I would switch completely to them and not get another pair of the Tomir 2s.
I really liked the Edge and I recently picked up the La Sportiva Prodigio Pros. So far I really like them. A little firmer, a little more stable, better grip. The fit's in the same ballpark, too (as opposed to Hokas, which tend to wreck my pinky toes). The sizing is a pain and I ended up in half a Euro size too small (not a deal breaker and I'll run them dead). I'm a Saucony 10.5 and the Prodigio Pro 11.5 would have been perfect, but 11 it is until I get another pair. Which I'm sure I will.
Agree with the comments that these are slippery as hell when wet, but the fit is nearly perfect for me at TTS. Also looking for shoes with a very similar fit being the priority
You can't find another pair of the Endorphin Edges? I got a pari 6 months ago for dirt cheap. They don't work for a lot of ppl, but if they do for you, grab the deal while you can! If looking for another model, the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Trail is supposed to be very similar, but a bit more stable. Hoka Tecton X 3 is another option? Or Asics Metafuji Trail.
North face Enduris 4 is great. La Sportiva Prodigio Pro is the best but pricier. Evo SL is also my favorite road shoe. For a wilder ride that you can pick up for cheap, the Saucony Endorphin Edge is very fun but can bounce you around a bit, so not recommended if you have wobbly ankles. Very fast shoe.
