In addition to these, the Saucony Ride TR2’s have been great for me as long as you don’t need more advanced features like a rock shield
I’m neutral with average arch both feet. My most common shoes are 8mm drop - I have in my rotation 6 mm drop also which is totally fine. I tried zero drop a couple of years ago in road shoes but it wasn’t for me (although that pair of Altras became my favorite casual sneaker - great for walking)! The selection at my local running store (and a couple of sporting goods stores) was very limited. I ended up ordering Saucony Ride TR2 since I love the road version of these. Got delivered yesterday so going to take them for a spin tomorrow. I did dig the Peregrines out of my closet and did an easy run with them on a trail Saturday. They seemed better than I remembered, probably because the trail I had run in them before was very technical and this one was pretty benign other than a few roots. So I’m hopeful that I will like the new rides Tr2 and will plan to take the Peregrines too so I can change out between them and maybe everything will be relatively dry and my road shoes will also work. In my last 24 hour, I felt like changing shoes out every few hours kept me feeling fresher and reduced stress on my feet.
I ordered Ride TR2 - there was next to nothing in my local running shop. They were delivered yesterday. I have a workout today but tomorrow am going to take them for a test run out at a reservoir with some popular trails. Since selection was so limited, and I had to order, I stuck with the Rides since I love the road version. Also thinking maybe this winter I will get potentially some use out of it just as an alternative if there’s a little weather - better grip than road shoes but yaktrax not warranted.
Saucony Ride TR2 is a pretty decent option- feels like a road shoe on the road, but also feels solid and stable on trails. Not an aggressive lug, but if it’s not too sloppy/ slippery they would be decent. I use them as a daily shoe where I have about 3km between my house and the trails.
Saucony Ride TR2 is a decent hybrid shoe- feels very much like a road shoe when running on pavement, and has enough grip for mild trails. I live 3km from trails so my daily runs are a mix, and this was a great compromise.
I just picked up the Saucony Ride TR2 after a recommendation on this sub. I took them out for a spin today and really liked them. They're not quite as soft as the regular Rides (which are my favourite daily trainer) but compared to the Juniper Trail 2 which I'd been using previously they were like clouds.
According to what I can see on their site, the Saucony Ride TR2 used PWRRUN+. It's a little more of a road-to-trail shoe so the lug depth may not meet your needs if you run on really muddy or technical trails, but it might be worth trying if that foam is a must-have for you. FWIW, the Triumph 20, which looks like it had PWRRUN+ lasted me longer than any other mid-sole I've used (550mi), so there may be something on the longevity claim.
Rotates between the Peregrine 13, Ride TR2, Prodigio Pro, and Akasha II on trails, Craft Nordlite Ultra 1/NU2 on gravel, and a pair each of Ride 15s, 16s, and 17s on the roads, as well as Cloudmonster 2 and Endorphin Speed 2s for faster stuff/treadmill/track. So 11!
+1 for the ride TR2. Love mine. I’d say try them on though as I’m not sure I’d call them wide, unless they do a wide version. Or try the mens.
I like the Ride TR2 for winter time road or anytime packed gravel road. It’s an interesting niche but I find I keep buying it for certain uses. My Endorphine Edge was a great shoe to run in but they were torn to hell after ~40-50 miles. I’m heavier runner and not light footed but absolutely no durability. Also really liked the Ultra Ridge GTX! Great hiking shoe or deep snow trail shoe!
I find that the Saucony Ride TR2 disappears under my feet just like the Glycerin 21 does. It has a similar ground feel and fits just the same for me too. It’s a marketed as a road to trail shoe but it can easily handle all sorts of terrain except for mud.
What’s about the Ride TR2? They’re more cushioned and bouncy than the older TRs and just lovely to run in.
Saucony Ride TR2 is perfect for this. It’s well cushioned but stable and grips on all sorts of surfaces.
I you like Rides then you should definitely look at the Ride TR2. It’s the R17 with a road to trail outsole and some slight changes to the upper. They’re great on anything except for mud and also incredibly durable.
Saucony Ride TR2 works very well for me. It has plenty of cushioning and the outsole works well on pretty much any surface including quite technical or loose stuff.
Saucony Ride TR2 does this kind of thing very well as it’s a daily road shoe with a light trail outsole. It’s cushioned, stable, bouncy and has enough grip for most situations.
The Saucony Ride TR2 might be the answer. It’s basically the Ride 17 road shoe with a light trail outsole plus a bit of reinforcement to the upper. They’re nice and plush by trial shoe standards without being unstable, but they can easily handle fairly rocky trails.
Ride TR2 is a great shoe for this
The Saucony Ride TR2 is an excellent road to trail shoes which fits quite wide. They have a lot of cushioning too and feel like a road shoe rather than a stiff trail one.
I do all of my trail running in the Saucony Ride TR2 which is marketed as being a road to trail shoe: it’s great on non-muddy surfaces of any type and can easily handle lengthy road sections as it’s based on the Ride road shoe therefore it has plenty of cushion. If you want a pure road shoe (you don’t make this clear in your OP) then take a look at the Salomon Aero Glide 3, especially the GRVL version. I love it as it has very deep cushioning, lots of bounce and feels nice and light. Mine are wearing very well too.
I use the Saucony TR2 and also have wide feet. They are fine for a couple of km on pavements but drag easily if you run tired and don’t pick your feet up. Once you hit the gravel, grass, or mud then they come alive.
