Based on 1 year's data from Mar 19, 2026 How it works
These fit a half size bigger than the previous Spin Ultra version. I agree the foam is nice. I'm very curious to see how folks feel durability is... I wore ~25 pairs of the Spin Ultra v1 (sole trail shoe since 2019) with nary a durability issue. I had to warranty my first pair of these after 30 miles as the upper was detaching from the sole on BOTH shoes. The warranty pair I got sent has the various overlay pieces coming unglued after ~40 miles. That seems cosmetic to me so going to keep using them but it's a pretty poor start. I'm hoping the best for these... the foam is nice and they fit my foot well.

Spin Planet is heavier, midsole foam is not as performance-oriented. I think it has a lot of recycled content which is a good thing, but again, it's not really a performance or racing shoe. With the Spin Ultra here you should be able to charge through the terrain you mention no problem, with a bit more agility and feel than the Spin Planet. The fit of the Spin Ultra is a bit more dialed though, so be aware of that. I found Spin Planet a bit wide / accomodating.
I didn't get along with the fit of the previous Spin Ultra. It really squeezed my forefoot too much no matter what I tried. For me, the upper on this one is much better.
I have been using the first version of the Spin Ultra for over 2 years, have 5 pairs in use with different mileage, with two pairs just over 400 km each and have had zero issues luckily. The non-GTX pair is starting to show some signs of wear on the upper. I find the midsole would be better but I really like how well structured Spin Ultra are: they feel like an ultralight version of La Sportiva Ultra Raptor
Scarpa shoes unfortunately seem to fit tight. I have wide feet so I need to size up at least full size to be comfortable but end up having a good inch empty past the toes. Thanks for the review.
That's because those are not even running shoes, but for hiking. The Rapid LT is an approach-shoe. I mean coming from Salomon, everything is an upgrade, I guess, but that is a weird comparison. That being said, Scarpa arguably makes some of the best mountaineering boots in the world, but all of their trailrunners absolutely suck, except maybe the Spin Ultra 2, which was halfway decent.
There's absolutely no running shoe that really works on wet, slippery rocks, you'd need crampons for that or whatever. I just did a 32k/2500m mountain crossing recently in heavy rain, and it was absolutely abysmal, although I'm an avid runner and mountaineer. It took me over an hour more than usual and I really reached my limit several times during that run. For everything else there are special rubber compounds that are more sticky than regular running shoes (like Vibram Megagrip). A lot of performative trail running shoes (Scarpa Spin Ultra 2, Hoka Tecton X, Hoka Mafate X, Dynafit Ultra Pro 2) use this very sole, others use a similar system (La Sportiva Prodigio Pro). They perform very well in a dry alpine environment, but have, as I said before, their limits in rain and mud. Also the additional grip adds to the already high abrasion, which means your soles will disintegrate even faster than regular runners. Not as bad as the early Salomon Speedcrosses, but don't expect to do 1000k in these boots. Edit: spelling
La Sportiva Prodigio Pro or Scarpa Spin Ultra 2. Depends on if you have a Scarpa foot or a La Sportiva foot. Iβve used both and the La Sportiva worked better for my feet.
I just commented the same. The Spin Ultras have been incredible for me in 2025
Scarpa. Got a pair of Scarpa Spin Ultras last year...they're def in my top 3 fav shoes of all time for mountain running. Check all the boxes with 0 complaints....think they were on sale for like 70 bucks at the time cuz no one in the US buys em. Wish I bought like 5 pairs...can't find em anymore
i second the scarpa ribelle run. i personally use the dynafit transalper because it has more of an approach style toe, but ive also enjoyed the scarpa spin ultra
In the same range like bushidos- highly recommend the brand new Scarpa Spin Ultra 2 , very secure and runnable β¦ great for mountain routs and durable
The new Scarpa Spin Ultra 2 β¦ basically exactly what you are describing and another good Italian brand
More generous, this is the second/third iteration at this type of shoe, and they are closer to nailing that "all mountain" trail shoe. This shoe is way more runable than Bushidos, I have both. Scarpa spin ultra 2 or for softer feel Golden Gate ATR 2
I'm on my 4th pair trail shoes that I don't get on with. I have flipper-like wide feet - which tempted me over to a pair of Altra Timps. I took them on a 2k treadmill run yesterday. I concentrated on mid-foot striking, but the posterior of my low legs are burning alarmingly today. To a degree I knew this was to be expected. However, it feels like it might be an arduous transition, and I found reading Altra's claims for the benefit of zero-drop shoes to be a bit vague and unconvincing - left me wondering why I'm bothering! ...I think I've already got exceptional balance.. Having been on treadmill I think I could easily return and I'm tempted to. So far my shoe grave yard include: Scarpa Spin Ultras (too narrow, blistered on outer toes) Inov8 G 300 Ultra (fit great, run horribly. Heavy with no energy return) Hoka Speedgoat wide fit (Ran great, but far too narrow on mid-foot causing pinches and blisters When I run on tarmac regular I take over-sized Asics which seems to work well..
