"Speedlands grip is very poor compared to Norda and Nnormal."
No one has said speedland….i have the gs:pdx and they have a wide toe box, boa system so swelling feet won’t get hot spots, and an optional carbon plate insert. Brings the roominess of Altra without zero drop. Yeah they are ugly. But they are comfortable
You can get 10% off your order for being a new customer…that ended up getting me the carbon inserts for free. They way I see it, I can pay $160 for a pair of run of the mill shoes or for $100 more get a par of shoes that will last twice as long
So I signed up for my first trail race this October, and will be getting in trail running through the spring and summer. I currently have a pair of Speedland GS:PDX running shoes, which I spent a good amount on thinking they'd be a great shoe and it turns out they aren't wide enough for me. I have pretty wide feet and these are causing pain on the side of my big toe joint, sort of bunionish type pain. Im looking at the new balance hierro v9 in extra wide as an option. Also seeing Altra get a ton of love due to the wide toe box, but I've never ran in 0 drop shoes before so would need to transition right? For Altra the Timp or the lone peak looked good!
Speedland shoes, Path Projects & Roark clothing
Currently rotating 3 pair. 2 pair of Speedland. One for trail (GS:PDX) and the other (GL:SVT) more aggressive for crappy trail conditions. Also have a pair of Hokas (Clifton) for road and treadmill
I’ve been using Speedland shoes for over a year. Changed the game for me and I’ll probably never go back to “big box” shoes
Speedland GS. Worth every penny
Said it before and I’ll say it again. Speedland shoes are unreal. Wide toe box, cushy, great traction and will outlast just about any other shoe I’ve ever ran in. Worth every penny!
Speedland GS. My go to winter shoe for the past two seasons, unreal traction and durability
Came here to say this! The Speedland GS are unreal. People are scared of the price tag but they will feel like new after 500+ miles
Have you tried to trim the insole on the GS? I think you are able to do so. But I will say if the gs is too narrow for you the Norda 001 won’t give you anymore width. I have both and the speedlands are wider to me.
Speedland if you can swing the price. I’m at 500 miles in mine and still feel fresh…unusually rotate shoes at 300-350. I’ve done a 50k, a 50 miler and a 100k in them
I’m on mile 470 on my Speedland GS:PDXs and they are still so fresh….so, the cost per mile becomes a value for me. Did multiple 50ks and 100m in them…honestly favorite shoes ever. Used coupon code freetrail10 for 10% off
You’re gonna love them. I wish I bought 5 pairs. The BOA is so comfortable, even on steep descents. I also have the carbon plate in mine. Enjoy!
I’ve personally found that a wide toe box is a greater advantage for me over everything else on trail. I’ve worn Altra, Hoka, Norda, and Speedland over the last 10 years of ultra racing and training. Wide toe box + BOA system is my holy grail and I’m currently in Speedland’s after coming over from the Altra Mont Blanc BOA. I tightened up my stride in zero drop over time and has been good for trail cadence and nimbleness whether I’m in a zero drop or drop shoe.
I just retuned the 005s as I couldn’t quite get the fit right (they’re great on flat road but couldn’t get it dialed for the steeper ascents and descents I do). I’m going back to the Speedland GS:CCD (I have the GS:PDX and they are my favorite trail shoes ever). For background: I have had two pairs of 001s for 2 years (white gum are my daily and travel shoes) and the ciele x Norda in gravel have been my trail shoes in rotation….but I keep going back to the Speedland’s when I want a superb fit (BOA is next level) and solid comfort on the longer efforts.
Shoes are so personal in the sense that every body is shaped differently…wide, narrow, high arch, low arch, etc. makes the whole topic very subjective. Your local running shop is the best resource to try out different pairs. A few tips: - your feet will swell over those distances and 1/2 size larger helps. - make sure you have space in the toe box for width as there is nothing more uncomfortable that too narrow a shoe to run in - learn the “heel lock” lace technique to prevent your foot from sliding forward on steep descents Lastly, you’ll get a ton of advice on shoes recommendations but take the time to figure out what works for you. What works for me is a wide toe box, boa system instead of laces, good tread, quality foam, and a slight drop. (Altra Mont Blanc BOA and Speedland GS:PDX are my all-time favorite…but I know people who couldn’t stand them…because it’s all subjective) Congrats on the upcoming race!
No one is going to take my recommendation seriously based on their price point. But the Speedland GS series has been my go-to for high volume running. I got 850 miles out of my first pair before the tread was completely gone. If it hadn’t of been for the tread, they still had plenty of miles of comfortable running in them. I’m on my 2nd pair of GS and they are at 387 miles and still going strong.
Yep most overrated shoe on the market along with hoka speedboats
My last pair of Speedlands lasted me over 1000 miles. While it can be expensive up front it saved me money in the end as it lasted at least 2.5x longer than a $150 pair would.
Since you’re willing to spend some money, you should look into Speedland. Superior durability.
Oh yeah, bummer. Get a stateside friend to send some!
Speedland are the super supers.
