Speedland - GS:SFD

Have tried a few and here are my thoughts Saucony endorphin edges Very similar to endorphin pro 3s in ride. They are a fast shoe but let down badly by the grip (atrocious on wet rocks) and i struggled with the upper. Go half a size up to normal for these Brilliant for open firetrail Speedland SFD Is it carbon plated? Well they are in there but they offer the least assistance of any i have tried. Broad base and good grip with the absolute highlight being the lock down from the boas. Down side is they drain like shit without cutting the plug out and if you do that they let water in from any wet ground. Price is absurd for what you get Adidas terrex speed ultra This shoe is fast! Probably the quickest trail shoe i have used BUT They are incredibly unstable on anything even remotely uneven, hit a rock wrong and goodbye ankle. The instep rubbed my arch badly so only got 30k in them before passing them on l Hoka tecton x2 These have been an absolute workhorse for me. 400ks in my first pair and they have tons of life left in them. Maybe not the quickest ride but they are on par with the speedlands for stability but much lighter (cheaper too) Highlight for me is the way they drain Downside would be the tongue could be longer and thicker. Had issues with lace bite early on but got the fit dialed now. Great shoe for up to 50ks for me so far. Hoka tecton X3 Very bouncy ride, for me the most on par with road going super shoes. Took me a little to like and trust these shoes but now my go to race shoe. The grip is easily the best of all I have used including the X2s (can't beat vibram megagrip imo) They are wearing well and the ride settled down a touch to not throw me on bad landings( note it still will a bit) Down side, the lacing system not allowing a heel lock. Have to use thicker socks than normal (i prefer steigens) to mitigate the heel not locking 100% The upper is thicker than the X2s and doesn't drain quite as well but on par with most others

Speedland, the only shoe I will wear on trail.

Only if the road leads to a trail. If i plan a road run, i wear road shoes and always cycle between two pairs. road shoes now are Brooks Glycerin Max (438 miles) Ghost Max (427 miles), and trail shoes are Speedland GS:SFD (230 miles) and GS:OAK (397 miles) ... I have found that my shoes last much longer when using them for the terrain they were made for. I need to replace the Brooks (both pairs, they just still feel good), and I'll replace the Speedlands at around 600 miles. BTW 52M, 175lbs, average runner (did 13.5m this morning at 8:30 pace which is fast for me).

Starting using Speedland GS this year and cannot imagine ever using anything else. They’re spendy but the durability is amazing. Have well over 500 miles on them and they feel like new still

Speedland. I have hobbit feet, and despite initial sticker shock, I’ve never had shoes that fit my feet so well. Worn for everything from short jogs to a 200 miler with great results. Not the most responsive, but they get the job done well and do it without ruining your wide ass feet.

6’4” and 204 here. Depending on what size you need, check out Speedlands. Expensive, yes, but last way longer than Hokas so probably a wash in terms of cost.

I actually tried speedlands. They just didn’t work for me. For that price I wanted them to be the best shoes I’ve ever owned and they just felt awkward. Would love to give nordas a try one of these days but I’m a bigger guy and prefer a little more stack height.

I actually found the speedland boa's to be uncomfortable. They were either too loose or they were painful when tight. Boa's are fancy but i honestly prefer laces, you can "dial" in the fit much better (pun not intended but i'm keeping it).

My last pair of Speedlands lasted me over 1000 miles. While it can be expensive up front it saved me money in the end as it lasted at least 2.5x longer than a $150 pair would.

I’ll spend some money on shoes, but these seem excessive. They apparently last a long time, but at full double the price of some other great shoes, what’s the point? Not really saving money. I have Speedlands, so I will pay for quality, but Speedlands last a long time AND have Boa technology, which I believe is worth a lot. And there’s always a Freetrail discount code active for Speedlands. I also think some Nordas look like they came from Payless 😂

Since you’re willing to spend some money, you should look into Speedland. Superior durability.

Speedland are the super supers.

Dozens- hoka, altra, topo, speedland and mount to coast. Rotate them all kinda. Two different sizes. I am a big guy and don’t cheap on my shoes. Whatever it takes to get the miles in.

I don’t think Speedland is any more durable than Nnormal or Norda. They are all durable, but I would rank them from most to least durable: Norda, Nnormal, Speedland. I have had all three. Speedlands grip is very poor compared to Norda and Nnormal.

Speedland if you can swing the price. I’m at 500 miles in mine and still feel fresh…unusually rotate shoes at 300-350. I’ve done a 50k, a 50 miler and a 100k in them

I’ve personally found that a wide toe box is a greater advantage for me over everything else on trail. I’ve worn Altra, Hoka, Norda, and Speedland over the last 10 years of ultra racing and training. Wide toe box + BOA system is my holy grail and I’m currently in Speedland’s after coming over from the Altra Mont Blanc BOA. I tightened up my stride in zero drop over time and has been good for trail cadence and nimbleness whether I’m in a zero drop or drop shoe.

I splurged on Speedland since I trail run everyday and I’m glad I did. I don’t know how to explain what they do for me but I feel it. I did the optional plate as well.

If you’ve got the cash I’d pick up a pair of speedlands, they’re new to the scene and pretty sweet
