Based on 1 year's data from Feb 25, 2026 How it works
They are to narrow for my feet. I have tried the Vective pro 2 and 3
Narrow in the toe box. On the 2 the winglet bit into my foot and the 3 seemed narrower than the two. I run a lot in the Hoka Tecton x3 so my foot is not that wide but it just didn’t fit in Vective. To bad as I had hopes for that shoe - especially the 3 seems well thought out.
Prodigo Pro destroyed my big toenails on long technical descents. Don’t know why, but the hard toe box just shattered them. They were great until I took them to a race in the Pyrenees with 1hr+ descents. For me, North Face Vectiv Pro 2 or 3, it Sky 2 are better shoes.
Grab a pair of La Sportiva Prodigio Pro or the North Face Vectiv Pro 2 (not the 3). The former are not plated; the latter are.
About 13 years ago, I had some NF trail shoes that I really liked, so I got the Vectiv Pro 2. I enjoy that model and raced a 100k in it where it performed really well. So I got the Vectiv Pro 3, but that model doesn’t work for me. It‘s uncomfortable on the ball of my foot, especially uphill. I have been curious about the Enduris but because the Pro 3 was expensive and didn’t work out, I have been reluctant to invest more money in NF shoes.
Hey! I did it in 2024 when it was dry and I used the North Face vectiv pro elite 2 (or some combination of these words!) but I'd also recommend the North Face Enduris 4 (no, I'm not sponsored by North Face!). They have an insanely good range of light trail shoes that are often overlooked by people used to running in road shoes (my road shoes are Megablast and Superblast and 1080s) so I'm used to having bounce and cushion for sure). I did it in 12 hours and 7 mins and had zero foot pain at any point. At the time I was 34F. Good luck! It's the most fun race and actually I'm considering a revisit to RTTK because Threshold are so fab!
I’ve had a pair of Vective Pro 2’s for a couple years that I’ve liked. I did a good chunk of Bighorn in them and wore them for all of Heartland 100. I like em, but not sure I’d pay retail for them. I had some case from Xmas and used that to temper their price… they are about due for retirement at this point. Gripes? Rubber is VERY soft. The medial carbon “wing” can get annoying. I’ve read the reviews of people cutting them out. Might try it before their last miles.
And here's the latest updated trail collection. Trail running takes up around 40% of my mileage so there's an appropriate number of trail shoes compared to the road shoes. Like with the road shoes, pretty happy and feeling set with these for now and through most of 2026. The only trail shoes coming next year, so far, that I have some mild interest in is the Brooks Cascadia Elite, but it could be redundant when compared to shoes like the Tecton X 3 and Cloudultra Pro. The trail shoes that are getting the most mileage lately are the Cloudultra Pro, Prodigio Pro, MTC H1 & T1, and Enduris 4. I have over 200 miles each on two pairs of Tecton X 3, so backing off those for a while. Ditto for the Speed Ultra and Vectiv Pro 2, which I also have two pairs of each and with around 150 miles on each pair. Really enjoying the MTC H1 for the road-to-trail excursions (13\~15 miles) which I like to go on every Sunday. The Agravic Speed and Puma DNE Trail are two other shoes I use for road-to-trail, but the H1 just feel and ride better for the road and flatter trail terrains. Can't say I really 'need' anything more now but I'm sure I'll always be checking on new stuff coming out. https://preview.redd.it/k6edk126940g1.jpeg?width=503&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1edfeb64134c7dfde6873e6f375d6cd30027362f
I would try out: North Face Vectiv Enduris Has a nylon plate and gets great reviews. $160 Otherwise you can try more expensive… North Face Vectiv Pro Adidas Agravic Speed Ultra I have the Pro and the Ultra. Like them both. I plan to try the Enduris as I know a lot of people who love it
I avoid asphalt as much as I can and I don’t think I shuffle too much. I’ve put a decent amount of miles into my Zegama 2s, north face vectivs, Salomon’s, and ultrafly before retiring them and they held up pretty well. This is the first pair of trail shoes that looks like they took a beating early on. It is a great shoe though
There's probably 50 pair that will work for you. I'm a big fan of the north face trail runners \*vectiv line, maybe have a look at them. New Nike Zegama 2 might be worth a look too, since you know how Nike shoes fit.
