"I also ordered the Ultraventure in a regular and wide width and the actual outsole was identical on both shoes, so I suspect their “wide” are built on the same platform as the regular width, and they just add extra material in the upper to try to accommodate a wider foot. This is cheaper for them, but not going to give a good fit if you have actual wide feet."

I love my Topo Athletic Ultraventure 3s. Wide toebox, plenty of cushion but not too stacked as to be unstable.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up deciding on the Topo Ultraventure 3 in wide. The wide anatomically correct toebox that brand offers stood out to me. Also lots of positive feedback in the ultra community!

Haven't tried the Pegasus, have the Ultraventure 3 and the 4 is not too different. The UV is fine on most trails when new, but with short lugs you may want to be careful on loose soft/wet/slippery trail surfaces. Works on road but way heavier than it needs to be. I don't particularly recommend hybrid shoes because the criteria for road vs trail can conflict with each other and roads can wear down outsole lugs faster so you're often getting less overall life and less performance vs dedicated separate road and trail shoes. But there are some trail shoes that work fine for road and have good life because of the outsole lugs: NNormal, Peregrine, Endorphin Edge if you can find them, Hoka ATR.

I've been thru Topo Hydroventure, Ultraventure 1/2/3, MTN Racer 1/2/3/4. The UV3's lost the outer/lug grip plot, the MTN3's felt like running in floppy support-free canvas bags (the MTN4's are a return to form). I haven't tried the Vistas yet. What I'm concerned about with the Vistas is catching little rocks in that split heel just like Saucony Peregrines do. Did you experience this in your run test? Other than that, the lugs are the same as the MTN4's, right?

Only 40 miles in on them, and so far, they're holding up. I saw the toe delam issue in the reviews, which is why I wanted to make sure I went through REI. I tried the Topo Ultraventure 3 in January and had some issues with them. So, back to REI, they went. That 35mm heel stack was really uncomfortable.

Love my Ultraventure 3s. Great if you like some cushion. Topos are great and finally solved my blister problems. I swear by them.

My Topo Ultraventure 3s got me through my 50k last fall beautifully. This is coming from a longtime Saucony fan.

My Topo Ultraventures have been great shoes and held up well. Have got me through two 50k’s, blister free!

Topo Ultraventures have been a really solid shoe. I’ve had better durability with Topo after switching over from Altra but still get that wide toebox. Another brand I like is Mount to Coast. Their T1 (rugged) and H1 (road to trail) models are both great options.

I tried on the Calderas, but I have wide feet and those shoes felt too narrow for me. I ended up getting the Topo Ultraventure 3 which became possibly my favorite pair of shoes ever. Those Topos were my main road-to-trail travel shoes - my Swiss Army Master of None shoe. I don’t necessarily like them for technical trails, but they still do ok on them.

Topo Ultraventure 3 was my go-to master-of-none travel shoe. I’ll likely be getting the 4 in the future, especially because it looks better.

I use Topo Ultraventure 3 as my do-everything shoe. They have a lot of miles now so I’m eyeing the new version in the near future.

r/UltralightWhy is Altra Lone Peak so popular?

>Somebody mentioned they might not be as wide in the toebox as Atras but I don’t find that to be true Altra Lone Peak 9 toebox width\[0\]. Topo MTN Racer 3\[1\], Traverse\[2\] and Ultraventure 3\[3\]. Make of the 3-5mm width difference what you will, but it seems there is a consistent difference. Your feet may simply be narrow enough that your toes aren't close to touching even the Topo toebox. The Topo toebox is above average width to begin with. \[0\] [https://runrepeat.com/altra-lone-peak-9#toebox-width](https://runrepeat.com/altra-lone-peak-9#toebox-width) \[1\] [https://runrepeat.com/topo-athletic-mtn-racer-3#toebox-width](https://runrepeat.com/topo-athletic-mtn-racer-3#toebox-width) \[2\] [https://runrepeat.com/topo-athletic-traverse#toebox-width](https://runrepeat.com/topo-athletic-traverse#toebox-width) \[3\] [https://runrepeat.com/topo-athletic-ultraventure-3#toebox-width](https://runrepeat.com/topo-athletic-ultraventure-3#toebox-width)

Had the Ultraventure 3 and really wanted to use them for running, but the midsole "correction/support" were to agressive and resulted in pain as well as the 5mm drop lead to ankle inflamation. Sold them.

I've run in Ultraventure 3's, MTN Racer 4's, Phantom 3's and 4's and they've fit consistently across the board at my standard size 8 women's.
