I use VFF daily and use them for running some 10-20,km mountain and cobble tracks. Depending the terrain may be hard but they work well. Look for the one adapted at what you do. An alternative is sandals (huaraches). Have done 2 70km ultra trails in them but depends a lot weather and which sole they have. Buff spyridon were my favorites, now I have vtrek. Sole is thinner and less rigid. Also happy.

i do have the spyrydon(?) and kso. the kso has a much thinner sole and the spyrydon has more grip and protects me for rocks. you still feel everything, but not that much. normal hiking shoes, i feel that i hit something because elevation, not the actual feel. remember that your foot must have strength in the toes, in don't train that much, i focus more on running and ground feeling. perhaps you need to give it time to adapt and strenghten, orndecide its not for you. everyone is different, that makes humans great!

La Sportiva's have the best grip on wet rock. After that any shoe with Vibram Megagrip. Followed by Salomon's ContraGrip. They all work well. Best bet, go to a store and try a bunch on. You have recommended shoes from a bunch of people. Now go see how they fit YOUR feet. Go with the ones you like/fit best. Also as others have said skip the waterproofing. It'll only make your feet hot and sweaty. Gortex is for the winter.
