I run outdoors all year round in Norway because I haaaaate the treadmill. As soon as it gets slick, I swap to spiked running shoes - VJ Frost 2 are the ones I'm using currently, although I've also used Icebug. I tried Yaktrax and found that they kept twisting around my shoes, and I also bought the spikes that you screw into existing running shoes. They definitely provide traction, but I found that after running repeatedly on hard surfaces, the screw part of the spike would tear out of the soles.

Sarva has some decent studded running shoes! Icehero is really good. Remember that the studded running shoes doesn’t need that much shock absorption, as the studs and the snow/ice takes a lot of the impact.

Absolutely. I bought a pair of VJ sports with spikes a few years ago. They come out when the snow does and sit in the box the rest of the year. Sure they don’t get constant use, but really are worth it when it does. Also VJ Sports haven’t had any mention so far on here. They do a few pairs and as they’re a Finnish brand, they know a lot about snow.

+1 for VJsports. I have a pair with spikes that I keep boxed up to come out on the odd icy / snowy run. When they do come out, they’re great. Would recommend non spiky ones for the mud also, they do some good shoes.
