Based on 1 year's data from Feb 24, 2026 How it works
I've seen a lot of suggestions for long lasting ones but none for the easily replaceable cheapos. My go to there is Whitin Minimalist Trail running shoes on amazon. $40 and they last me around 4 months of heavy play (4-5 rounds a week). If you're not a power thrower you could probably get more life out of them, as the point of failure is the heel where I rotate I've not found any shoe that lasts more than a year regardless of price, so I'm not going to bother spending lots.
I just got Whitins to wear during my weighted vest walks and what a difference! No more aches and pains and the wide toe box is so comfortable! I got the regular minimalist shoe. I have a pair of Whitins water shoes coming to try those out. Which did you use?
I have been trying these out for about a month. I have 4E size 11 feet. They have been very roomy. They have worked out well. I like the price too. I have worn them around town, to the gym on the treadmill, and on a 3 mile fairly mild hike. I am in no way associated with it make money from this brand or link. I'm using [Whitin women's minimalist barefoot shoes.](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YXHS9M1?th=1&psc=1) Also ordered a slightly different version that has a thicker sole because the trail walking kinda hurts. Love the wide toe box designs. Sooo comfy that I threw out my old Skechers because I had misshapen one pair after tons of use - my foot was wider than the Skechers soles so I made the fabric stretch and flood over the sides of the sole. So I threw the old ones away AND the new/replacement sneakers because I realize, they're just too fucking narrow for me and it causes problems. I can't jump into straight barefoot shoes because I've been sedentary as hell for 10 years. I got super inspired for walking trails once and [used these shoes](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CHMQN93) and they were comfy too. However I was walking half-miles in the woods and ignoring the pain. **DON'T ignore pain.** Strengthening your feet and muscles/tendons takes time. Take it fucking slow!!! I got plantar fasciitis and had to stop for months, and was very fearful to jump back in. Giving it another try now, adding better insoles. So now I started by doing a 1/4 mile every other day. Then slowly more. I'm up to a half-mile now. Walking slow, taking my damn time, taking a day off in between. Shin splints happening less and less. 🙏
The Whitin trail running shoes on amazon are pretty good. $40ish per pair.
I have a pair of these too. They are barefoot though and so for rockier courses you feel every little pebble or rock you step on. They still held up just fine, but went back to a more sturdy trail running shoe. For park courses, these are 100% my go-to shoe and you can't beat the price. Plus the wide toe box makes them very very comfy.
I loved them so much I have multiple pair.. They are my work shoes too. So comfy. But when it's really rocky I go to my altras.
I wear them! I’m not sure about the stack height meeting your requirements, but I like these and Whitin’s.
I was just coming down to the comments to call this out! Super comfy, but watch out for a sharp ass root or rock.
I used to run very regularly, several half marathons. A series of events and life obstacles led to me taking 7+ years off I am now over 2 months back into regular running. As a 50+ larger male, I am taking increasing super slow. I have some experience running barefoot, having completed one of my HM truly barefoot. But now I feel that variety is important to optimize my health and fitness My current shoe rotation is: 1. Whitin Trail runners - used on the road for "speed efforts" 2. Mizuno wave Neo Wind - used for my longer days up to 5k now, but a plan to grow to 10k I will use either for my easy shorter runs, for variety and I try to never wear the same shoe on consecutive days. For example I ran 5k Saturday in the Mizuno and a 1 mile easy recovery on Sunday in the Whitin.
