I think the rate of people getting car seats and strollers destroyed is not as high as the internet would have you believe. I also notice it’s always people with pricey gear (Nuna, uppababy, etc). I’ve flown all over the country and to japan many times with my 1.5 year old and my graco travel stroller always makes it out fine. You could get the babytrend trooper for ~$100 and check it, or bring it on the plane for the baby to sit in if you buy them a seat. ETA: just read that baby isn’t here yet, so would prob still be in a bucket seat. I’m sure baby trend or safety first has some cheaper ones!
We have the EvenFlo’s as well, we dont travel with them though (way to heavy). We bought BabyTrend’s 3 in 1 trooper. Very basic, but very light car seat. Bought a generic car seat bag on Amazon and have since taken it on multiple trips.
Nope, we got the baby trooper slim 3 in 1. I will say, the extend may have fit, but I couldn’t risk it. We had plenty of plane seat room on the sides with the trooper. I think it’s because the width is measured by the widest part, not the base.
The Cosco one is just extremely basic. It is perfect safe. It has to be in order to be sold. I opted for the Baby Trend Trooper because it has higher weight limits and I had heard the Cosco one can be hard to install. The trooper was less than $100. If you want one with better materials I think the general recommendation is the Maxi Cosi Romi but that has lower weight limits too IIRC
I mean, you say you don’t want to compromise safety, while you’re considering putting 2 kids who are still small enough to rearface in many car seats in booster seats and while you forward face a 2 year old. It’ll be more difficult in terms of flying, but I’d pick up some lightweight convertible car seats (we like the Evenflo Sonus, the Babytrend Trooper is also good) specifically for travel and install them on the plane for all 3 kids (at least for the 2 year old. Might want to research lightweight combination seats for the 2 bigger kids, but I’d still have both of them in harnessed seats given their sizes).
I went with baby trend bc they were cheaper and waited for the trade in event at target. It’s usually in September if you can wait! If you have a red card debit card you save 5% off the top which adds up with 4 fucking car seats 😭 I think used my target rewards id been saving up too. Also just saying it’s almost 4 years later and my kids are still using those baby trend seats in both cars and they look pretty much new.
