Agreed with Graco, I bought the one4life and the uppababy rove for our two cars and she definitely prefers the Graco one4life.
OK, without brands this is what I used. 1. Bassinet thing that hooked into the stroller. Really loved this. The first 3 months felt like a year. I took her for walks in it and she slept in the bassinet at night on a stand. I had her in 2. Infant carseat. I didn't know they even made one you could use from the start until after I had her. I thought you had to buy two. In retrospect it was nice carrying her in/out of the house with. But at stores I carried her in a baby carrier, never put the carseat in the cart like I had always imagined. Two bases was clutch 3. One for life carseat is kind of cool. We had to buy one at 6 months, she is a 99 percentile baby and outgrew the infant one fast. We bought two. Expensive but necessary convenience with our living situation. I know the feeling of being overwhelmed with choices. I literally found a baby store in a city an hour from my house, drove there, made them show me them all. I needed to touch before buying. Good luck!
I picked out my son's car seat using this guide: https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/on-the-go/Pages/Car-Safety-Seats-Product-Listing.aspx Really helps to have all the height/weight stats in one place. We went with an all-in-one so we wouldn't have to keep buying things. We picked the Graco One4Life because it has higher height limits for rear-facing and the fabric is machine washable. It's big and heavy for sure, but it's been working great.
I LOVE our ravas. I have three, zero complaints. Would buy them again 4x over. We also have a britax one4life Safewash, but it’s not as comfy or easy to move. I’m in Canada so we didn’t have the Rava recall, so can’t comment on that, but every baby company has recalls so I’d look what it’s for and go from there.
I use the Britax one. It's like a luggage cart, folds up, and goes in the overhead bin when we get on the plane. I do use a Britax Poplar since it's narrow, and I can wheel it down the aisle. Previously, we used a one4life (also britax) but had to carry it through the plane since it was so wide (dont recommend)
I’ve had three kids in car seats and I have never felt like I needed a rotating seat nor cared to get one. I cared about a seat that was FR free. I have installed several graco seats and never felt like I could get them tight enough. So something that was easy to tie down. And then I wanted seats that had a higher weight for rear facing. The Britax one for life has been amazing. I can’t say enough good things about it. My oldest is now in the Britax five point booster, and I also love it. The click tight system makes installation incredibly easy without any seat moment. They are heavy as hell, but we don’t travel with them often.
MX 6 seat dad of 4 9,7,5,3 yrs old. Space is adequate for a family that size. Trunk space behind third row is tight for big strollers, fit our Britax jogging stroller fine. Britax car seats throughout, boosters in third row are narrow enough to fit two across. Britax click tights are easy to install. When I had an infant car seat I had a base in my car and base in wife’s, so we just clicked her in. Falcon doors makes it so easy to lean in and pick up the car seat. I love having automatic doors for the big kids, no dinging adjacent cars. A van door does the same job but then you’re driving an uncool van. The independent seats work great with a car seat on it, but you don’t have to move them often because my bigger kids can get to the back from the little aisle between the second row seats. Kids love the light show dance moves, emissions test, draw feature and rear screen. If there was like 10% more interior room it would be perfect, but it’s still great.
Britax click tight series are super quick and easy to install/uninstall and pretty fool proof. I think they are a bit pricey though.
You'll definitely want a convertible seat in both cars. You can swap a convertible seat between cars, but it takes a few minutes and would be a real pain to do multiple times per week. My older kid has been in a Graco Extend2Fit for the past several years and it's been fine. My only real complaint is that I foolishly bought the car seat in a light blue color and it is now really stained and gross looking. Stick with black or dark gray. I do think the mid-tier Britax car seat I bought for my younger kid is nicer, with better quality upholstery, a sturdier-seeming frame, and more padding, but it's not a massive difference. I used my brother's turn2me seat on vacation and thought it was pretty cool, but definitely not necessary for most parents. I think they may have bought it because they're tall people putting a baby in a sedan and wanted to avoid a lot of bending and stooping.
