For car seats, while basically all infant carrier are safe in crash tests because they all have the same basic concept, not all are supportive for newborns and especially tiny and premature babies. They can put babies in a chin to chest position which can restrict my their airways. And some seats have really bulky inserts which fit a newborn well but have an awkward transitional stage where they’ve outgrown the inserts but don’t fit properly in the seats. Some of the more supportive ones are Avionaut Pixel/Cosmo; BeSafe Go Beyond; Britax BabySafe; Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix; Cybex Cloud Z. You can sometimes get these seats in bundles.
r/BeyondTheBumpUK • Headache over the pram and car seat question ->I second this- we have a Nuna Mixx Next pram (got a good deal on a pristine display model. Well, it was pristine until we kept the seat portion in my FIL's garage where, apparently, a mouse chewed and shat on it! We managed to get a spare lining from Nuna) and a Cybex Cloud Z seat which will fit with adaptors. Tip: practise EVERYTHING before the big day. I nearly had a meltdown while my partner was trying to soothe the baby she had had cut out of her 3 days before and I couldn't figure out how to pop the car seat back out of the adaptors. Be aware that 99% of the tutorial videos will show you how to pop things easily into other things (like the seat into the isofix base) but *not* how to release them...
r/PregnancyUK • Is it better to have a separate car seat and pram rather than a travel system? Recommendations? ->We absolutely did our car seat on the pram wheels to death it was so useful as we pop out a lot, we had the cybex cloud that reclined as well so that was useful. I’d definitely get an infant carrier cos you’ll want to transfer them into the house under cover if it’s raining and you can’t do that with the multi stage.
r/UKParenting • I don't understand car seats! ->Same! Also you want a good infant carrier not multi stages. We had a cybex cloud and it was really good.
r/UKParenting • I don't understand car seats! ->Infant carrier car seats as well as isofixes. Do you really trust a random person to be honest about the history of the car seat? The thing in which you transport your new baby? It is also not only an accident but a drop or a fall can also cause damage. Especially important in infant carriers that get used for so much more than just car rides. It can have internal damage without being visible on the outside. Also, they expire. The maximum life span is 7 to 10 years. The cheapest maxi Cosi is less than 50 eurosnew. Friends or family, perhaps, but I’d rather go with a cheap new seat than a used one. They might not remember it fell or it might be too old. Isofixes are a little bit less risky because you don’t move them that often but again, not recommended to buy second hand. Friends and family should be fine.
r/belgium • Expecting a baby – looking for advice on car seats, strollers & compatibility ->Okay, i did extensive research on this topic. The cybex T cloud and the maxi Cosi pebble 360 pro seem to be the safest infant carrier car seats. There are a few other that also test quite well in collisions but often don’t offer the recline function. If you want to do your own research, also look at side collision test results. Chat gpt can help you with the test results. Every seat has it’s own isofix and real car seats have their own different isofixes. I don’t think you can mix and match. The seat and isofix you must buy new or use from someone you know really well. Don’t buy them second hand. For a real car seat, same. Check the test results. The weight limit on rear facing is very important. Rear facing is recommended until four yo or 22-25kg. We personally really like swivelling car seats as my partners car is an suv. We are probably going with the growing seat of maxi Cosi (the new one). I would steer clear of doona type car seats. They are very convenient but don’t offer suspension and are often used as strollers which is not good for the infant. They are expensive and not stroller compatible. For me not worth it. Strollers really depend on what it is what you are looking for. On my list I have real tires, big front tires, ventilated moses basket (preferably with anti reflux possibilities), large sunshade upf 50+ and a comfortable toddler seat. I highly suggest going to a big baby store and trying these out yourself. Height of the bar might be a very determining factor as well.
r/belgium • Expecting a baby – looking for advice on car seats, strollers & compatibility ->car seat i’d say go to an independent car seat shop to get advice. never buy 2nd hand and i’d buy an infant car seat first. in the 0-4 year car seats you rarely get a safe fit for a newborn. my inlaws have the joie spin and babe only got somewhat of a good fit at about 6+ months. We have a cybex cloud T which can be used without isofix and is as safe used on a seatbelt; however there’s excellent cheaper options - i heard great things about the avionaut and friends have maxicosi. Pram - i’d think about your lifestyle - ie do you go into smaller spaces, live in a building with stairs, small car etc or do you need something all terrain because you go on lots of country/off road walks etc. work your way back from an essential vs nice to have list and then check fb marketplace or similar. also check sales; sometimes you can get amazing deals!
r/BeyondTheBumpUK • Help on baby travel system/car seat in the UK ->Congratulations! I'm going through the same decisions as you after many weeks of research, and have just had some success on the stroller and car seat front! Nuna/Cybex were our frontrunners and we liked the elegance of the Silver Cross. We eliminated Uppababy early on for a multitude of reasons. Hopefully this saves you some time: Upon researching car seats, you'll see that the Clek Liing is the most thoroughly safety-tested seat on the market. It's handsome and made in Canada too. However, the price makes it prohibitive for some, and it requires adapters for most strollers. After numerous visits to Snuggle Bugz and West Coast Kids, we learned that the Cybex infant car seats have the same safety rating as the Clek. The Gazelle stroller is very thoughtfully designed and felt sturdier and more equipped for "real life" than the Nuna Mixx. It holds more weight underneath and comes with extra features that other companies sell separately, such as a cup holder and shopping basket. I also appreciate that it stays wheels-down when folded so that you don't end up with slush and salt on the handle and your clothes when loading it into the car through the winter. The car seat clicks in and out as easily as the Nuna ones (which are amazingly simple) so we felt the advantages of the Nuna were all present with the Cybex and then some. Snuggle Bugz had a bundle promo for stroller and car seat, so with the discount, our choice was obvious. Note: the Nuna stroller handle is the best of all - it has no knob or button in the middle which was a huge advantage for both comfort and ease of folding I've heard from many parents that infant car seats get totally filthy, so if you decide to pick one for style, friendly reminder that you're only getting 6 months of use and the "look" may not hold up. You're better off picking a stroller style you like and spending more money on that. Good luck!
r/BabyBumpsCanada • Stroller and Carseat Recommendations [ON] ->Everyone will have slightly different opinions, but this is mine: go to a JL shopping appointment to try out the prams, find out what you like and what's most practical in terms of lightweight, heavy duty etc for the types of places you'll want the pram. Then look out on Facebook marketplace and find one of the ones you liked at a more reasonable price on there. Get a cybex infant carrier car seat and an extended rear facing, Swedish plus tested seat for after that. Aesthetics are way less important than practicality.
