I have used a Maxi-Cosi 360 of some sort, Cybex cloud z I-size and a sirona (interchangeable on same swivel base) and a seatbelt chomping one too, all on the back seats. For the isofix ones I bought an adapter from Bezos. I don’t put them in the front because they are savages and my front seats are custom upholstered recaros but I much preferred the stability of the isofix adapter.
We didn't use it much either. We had the Cybex Cloud Z (a couple of years ago) but then ended up with a Swedish plus tested seat when she grew out of the Cybex, the rotating base was handy but ended up being pretty expensive when we didn't get the next Cybex seat. Our erf seat is pretty annoying to switch cars but then you don't need an extra base or anything, probably takes 5-10 mins to switch.
For car seats, while basically all infant carrier are safe in crash tests because they all have the same basic concept, not all are supportive for newborns and especially tiny and premature babies. They can put babies in a chin to chest position which can restrict my their airways. And some seats have really bulky inserts which fit a newborn well but have an awkward transitional stage where they’ve outgrown the inserts but don’t fit properly in the seats. Some of the more supportive ones are Avionaut Pixel/Cosmo; BeSafe Go Beyond; Britax BabySafe; Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix; Cybex Cloud Z. You can sometimes get these seats in bundles.
We have the cybex cloud Z. The T now does lay flat in the car too. If you have the space, I'd go for one of those. As someone who had a baby who COULDN'T lay flat for medical reasons, the car seat has been a godsend. He is nearly two and he still fits in it.
I second this- we have a Nuna Mixx Next pram (got a good deal on a pristine display model. Well, it was pristine until we kept the seat portion in my FIL's garage where, apparently, a mouse chewed and shat on it! We managed to get a spare lining from Nuna) and a Cybex Cloud Z seat which will fit with adaptors. Tip: practise EVERYTHING before the big day. I nearly had a meltdown while my partner was trying to soothe the baby she had had cut out of her 3 days before and I couldn't figure out how to pop the car seat back out of the adaptors. Be aware that 99% of the tutorial videos will show you how to pop things easily into other things (like the seat into the isofix base) but *not* how to release them...
I would actually really advise one just in case. We were in a similar situation but ended up needing to go to triage a few times postpartum in an emergency and I wasn’t in any state to take the pram on the bus! Ubers are super easy in that case. What I would defo advise is getting a car seat that can connect to your pram (some do directly if same brand, sometimes you need to get connectors but it’s still quick). That means you can just pack the pram frame in the boot and don’t have to carry the car seat around at the other end. We got the cybex cloud z (there might be a newer version now) because you can recline it to lie almost flat, which is better for babies to sleep in if you’re using it in that way. Highly recommend!
At home we have the cybex I cloud and base. Our baby loves it and always sleeps as soon as the car takes off. We recently rented a car seat in the states not sure what model it was but I think basic and uncomfortable (cosco brand) . Well she's scream bloody murder in it the whole time she was in it. Since we came back home again she was fine. So car seat does seem to make a difference
I got the CYBEX car seat that swivels and it has lasted me 6 years and I got the Nuna demo grow stroller because of the option to use it with two kids, and I have used it SO MUCH over the last six years with my two children and I still use it to this day with a six year-old and a three-year-old they both still fit great
