We didn't use it much either. We had the Cybex Cloud Z (a couple of years ago) but then ended up with a Swedish plus tested seat when she grew out of the Cybex, the rotating base was handy but ended up being pretty expensive when we didn't get the next Cybex seat. Our erf seat is pretty annoying to switch cars but then you don't need an extra base or anything, probably takes 5-10 mins to switch.
For car seats, while basically all infant carrier are safe in crash tests because they all have the same basic concept, not all are supportive for newborns and especially tiny and premature babies. They can put babies in a chin to chest position which can restrict my their airways. And some seats have really bulky inserts which fit a newborn well but have an awkward transitional stage where they’ve outgrown the inserts but don’t fit properly in the seats. Some of the more supportive ones are Avionaut Pixel/Cosmo; BeSafe Go Beyond; Britax BabySafe; Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix; Cybex Cloud Z. You can sometimes get these seats in bundles.
I second this- we have a Nuna Mixx Next pram (got a good deal on a pristine display model. Well, it was pristine until we kept the seat portion in my FIL's garage where, apparently, a mouse chewed and shat on it! We managed to get a spare lining from Nuna) and a Cybex Cloud Z seat which will fit with adaptors. Tip: practise EVERYTHING before the big day. I nearly had a meltdown while my partner was trying to soothe the baby she had had cut out of her 3 days before and I couldn't figure out how to pop the car seat back out of the adaptors. Be aware that 99% of the tutorial videos will show you how to pop things easily into other things (like the seat into the isofix base) but *not* how to release them...
At home we have the cybex I cloud and base. Our baby loves it and always sleeps as soon as the car takes off. We recently rented a car seat in the states not sure what model it was but I think basic and uncomfortable (cosco brand) . Well she's scream bloody murder in it the whole time she was in it. Since we came back home again she was fine. So car seat does seem to make a difference
I got the CYBEX car seat that swivels and it has lasted me 6 years and I got the Nuna demo grow stroller because of the option to use it with two kids, and I have used it SO MUCH over the last six years with my two children and I still use it to this day with a six year-old and a three-year-old they both still fit great
Congratulations! I'm going through the same decisions as you after many weeks of research, and have just had some success on the stroller and car seat front! Nuna/Cybex were our frontrunners and we liked the elegance of the Silver Cross. We eliminated Uppababy early on for a multitude of reasons. Hopefully this saves you some time: Upon researching car seats, you'll see that the Clek Liing is the most thoroughly safety-tested seat on the market. It's handsome and made in Canada too. However, the price makes it prohibitive for some, and it requires adapters for most strollers. After numerous visits to Snuggle Bugz and West Coast Kids, we learned that the Cybex infant car seats have the same safety rating as the Clek. The Gazelle stroller is very thoughtfully designed and felt sturdier and more equipped for "real life" than the Nuna Mixx. It holds more weight underneath and comes with extra features that other companies sell separately, such as a cup holder and shopping basket. I also appreciate that it stays wheels-down when folded so that you don't end up with slush and salt on the handle and your clothes when loading it into the car through the winter. The car seat clicks in and out as easily as the Nuna ones (which are amazingly simple) so we felt the advantages of the Nuna were all present with the Cybex and then some. Snuggle Bugz had a bundle promo for stroller and car seat, so with the discount, our choice was obvious. Note: the Nuna stroller handle is the best of all - it has no knob or button in the middle which was a huge advantage for both comfort and ease of folding I've heard from many parents that infant car seats get totally filthy, so if you decide to pick one for style, friendly reminder that you're only getting 6 months of use and the "look" may not hold up. You're better off picking a stroller style you like and spending more money on that. Good luck!
they are not the best. check out the ADAC crash tests. cybex is the best…
I bought the maxi cosi Romy travel car seat and it was so light. Our cybex infant is way heavier and I wouldn't trust gatechecking. My friend's stroller got damaged when gatechecked. I also got a yoyo for travel during black Friday but I'd pick the joolz dot if i could again
