We used Ride Safer (I think that's the name). It was a harness that is used in place of a car seat. We used it for several trips and it was awesome. Uber drivers don't seem to care. It worked on planes, too.

We use the saferider harness vest for travel. It meets or exceeds federal motoror vehicle safety standards forchild restraint systems, and operates as a forward facing car seat harness. We use ours for ride sharing and travel options and as our emergency seat option if the grandparents need to suddenly get him and dont have their booster seat with them.

r/MommitWhat do you do if you need to take a taxi with your baby and you don't have your car seat with you?

I have a doona, if baby is within limits i’d use the doona, if my baby is two years or older i would use the ride safer. If i don’t have anything then i won’t ride any car

We use the RideSafer harness as a secondary car seat at home and it is GREAT for our travels. Here is a good article about them on the Car Seats for the Littles website: https://csftl.org/ridesafer-delight-travel-vest-review/ We use the CARES harness on planes.

The RideSafers are great travel car seats, but I wouldn’t recommend them as daily drivers, particularly not for a 3-year-old. That’s the extreme low end of their age range. They’re not really as safe as convertibles (though they’re close to on par with boosters; that’s a higher age range though). And our kids hate them: they’re low to the seat so you can’t see out the window, and it’s virtually impossible to nap in them since they provide no support (and they’re really not meant to; a sleeping kid in a RideSafer can easily end up mispositioned in a way that’s unsafe). They’ve been transformative in terms of actually being able to travel or carpool or ride in self-driving cars, but if you *can* use a convertible as your daily driver, you probably should. Even besides safety, your kids will thank you for it.

r/toddlersToddler car seat for Ubers that works with a stroller?

Way B Pico or Ridesafe vest are the best toddler seats but don’t know what in initial height that works for either is. I think ridesafe XS works for your height. They don’t click into the stroller but are very portable. We personally use the ridesafe in San Francisco and while traveling. I would pair that with a super light weight stroller like YoYo, Minu, Bugaboo butterfly etc. Look at either one hand closing strollers or ones that fit in overhead bin. https://innoride.com/RideSafer_Travel_Vest_Gen_5_Extra_Small_Yellow

i'm currently on a 14hr flight home from a family wedding in Asia w/my 3 kids (9, 3 & 10m), traveling carry on only. our infant uses a doona (combo car seat and stroller, which we gate check) and the 3yo has a "ride safer" car harness and a small collapsible stroller (also gate check). we use a Tula Lite carrier and the collapsible stroller out and about in country. travel cribs are common in hotels and Airbnbs, but there's a wonderful pop tent bed from Joovy that's sleep safe for 6m+ and fits inside a personal item with room to pack around. the key is mindset: what could I do without? what could I buy at my destination? what's the worst case scenario if I don't have x? is spending more for laundry access worth the freedom of carrying less? babies and children live everywhere in the world, and so most baby things can be found in most places you're likely to visit. try it and see! editing to add: I've traveled extensively with all my kids starting from their first vaccines. I've traveled solo internationally with littles. it's very doable if you are willing to suffer thru the transit sometimes

When we went on a cruise with our kid, we packed a harness type car seat thing called RideSafer. It buckles them in more securely than a regular seat belt but obviously it’s way smaller to pack/bring along. I would probably only use it in that kind of scenario. Obviously a real deal car seat would be preferred but that is not really an option in like Caribbean ports.
