If you mean the Grow and Go All-in-1 — DO NOT get that seat. The brand in general is probably fine, but that one is the MOST ANNOYING seat I’ve ever used. It’s annoying to install — has this random requirement that it has to be lightly touching the seat in front of it or at least very close — so we have to have the carseat all the way reclined for 2.5yo, and the passenger seat can’t be moved at all. The cup holders screw out way too easily and it constantly happens accidentally. One of them is just lost at this point because it came out and then we misplaced it. Recently (we’ve used the seat for a little over a year) the straps have been having this issue where they somehow keep getting pulled from under seat so one strap ends up being longer than the other, making you unable to properly tighten the straps, and it’s a pain in the ass to fix once kiddo is already in the seat. The little slots on the side that are meant to hold the straps out of the way while you put the kid in just don’t work — the shape of them doesn’t make sense and they’re kind of high, so the straps just won’t stay in. I am a big fan of Graco. Theyre generally a little more expensive than Safety First, but not as expensive as Britax. Their extend-2-fit is a good one. Evenflo is also good. Other Safety First seats might be okay too — I don’t remember if I’ve used any others — but I would take a look at the manual first to make sure it doesn’t have stupid and unusual installation requirements too.
We love our Britax Poplar S. Would have gone with the One4Life but it didn’t fit in our car with how tall we are. It has the higher height & weight limits which was important for us because our LO is 99th percentile for both. That said I would not travel with it, both because it’s heavy and because I don’t want my expensive seat getting damaged. We bought the Safety 1st Grow with Me for travel for like $90 at Sam’s Club and it’s worked great for travel! Also, noticed you said price isn’t a concern. I would have loved the Nuna Rava if I could have afforded it. We had the Pipa for our infant seat too. But I could not justify the recent price increases on that one and we’ve been just as happy with the Britax!
I got a Safety 1st Grow and Go car seat. It can be used rear facing for newborns and forward facing up to 100lbs, so pretty much when they stop needing a car seat
The SlimFit line doesn’t give a very good fit for newborns. The Graco 4Ever fits pretty well. It’s been a few years since I worked in a birthing hospital so I don’t have as good of a read on which current models provide a good newborn fit other than the Graco 4Ever and the Evenflo Revolve 360. All the other ones that come to mind that fit newborns easily are either discontinued or are “program seats” that aren’t readily available to the public. The Safety 1st Grow & Go does fit newborns well but it’s very complicated to set it up for a newborn. I would have no issue using it myself because I’ve done so many of them and know what I’m doing; but I would feel irresponsible recommending it to someone who may not have help with it. If you have a high tolerance for reading the manual carefully and you’re willing to get it double checked by a technician before the baby arrives, it can be a good option. A Chicco Nextfit might work, but I don’t think I’ve ever personally put a newborn in one. I’ve put newborns in several Britax convertibles, but none of the ones that are current models on the market. I put an older baby in a Britax Poplar S today (it’s Child Passenger Safety Week!!) and it looked to me like it might provide a good fit for a newborn but I hesitate because I haven’t actually tried it on a newborn. There are several other seats that would probably work, but again, no personal experience with putting newborns in them. What car seats do you currently own for your older kids?
We’ve had a great experience with Safety 1st grow and go convertible car seat and it’s affordable!
This is a very thorough explanation of why I looked into them but decided to pass. I bought the narrow one, the Safety 1st Slim All-in-one, because I have a midsize sedan and on occasion want to squeeze two other people in to the back seat. It'll also fit well with two more for a three across configuration when my niece and nephew come to visit in the back seat of my husband's pickup truck. And it was like $125, and I thought that price point was reasonable. I think if I have a second pregnancy I might explore a rotating one for during the pregnancy.
It takes 2 seconds to take it out of the car. Also if you bring your baby inside with the carseat then it will be in the house not the car. It's much more convenient to bring the whole thing inside and strap your baby in/take them out inside the house. We got the Safety 1st travel combo. It's cheap but super convenient. Infant/carseat is light weight. Stroller seat has a bassinet feature. The stroller itself can be used with just the carseat or just the stroller seat or both snap in if you are traveling. Carseat has a base but easy to use without the base if you are traveling. Just locks into place with a seatbelt. Highly recommend it. Folds down decently well. Important for you to know though, all the strollers/carseat combos you are going to find will be infant carseats which we really need. You will have to upgrade to a regular carseat eventually when they outgrew the infant carseat. We went with the Evenflo Revolve 360 since it will grow with him until he no longer even needs a booster seat and it swivels to make getting in and out easy. Some carseats can also fit newborns and double as infant carseats but if you end up with a small baby they might not work. You will have to make sure the fit the minimal requirements for the carseat.
This seat was junk. Never would recommend this. My 4th and last baby was always getting tipped sideways. It didn’t hook snug like any other sears I’ve had with my other girls and it looked dangerous if we ever got into an accident. We are up on car seat safety and this was definitely not.
