Yup, I bought the lightest and most narrow car seat I could find just for travelling. Also got a collapsible cart for it so I can wheel it through the airport, often with the kid in it.
Safety 1st Jive 2-in-1 Convertible Car Seat Holm Airport Car Seat Stroller Travel Cart and Child Transporter - there are probably better carts out there, but so far this one has worked for us so far.
The MightyFit and Jive can be tough to install rear facing with the line level. Often they require a rolled towel (or something out of the clothing bag) to get them level. Cosco Scenera Next is easier to install level, hardly ever needs a towel.
Honestly I bought a Jive on a reddit recommendation and it felt cheap and horrible compared to the Graco Contender. And was impossible to install tightly enough in either of our cars, so that made it an immediate return for me.
