I have a Doona, baby has already outgrown it. The evenflo stroller carseats look badass though.
r/BabyBumps • Can’t decide on which stroller to get ->The doona is great if your child is still pretty young. Once they are used to an outward facing stroller it kind of annoys them. Or at least that was my experience
r/NewParents • Traveling for the first time with baby. Buy Doona? Or deal with stroller and car seat? ->It has a bag that attaches easily. You just put the doona bag under the seat in front of you during the flight
r/NewParents • Traveling for the first time with baby. Buy Doona? Or deal with stroller and car seat? ->We loved our Doona and are using it for #2 now! Our first got to 19 months before they outgrew it (small kid lol).
r/NewParents • FTM who needs to hear some real life advice about stroller car seat options ->We loved our Doona! Our LO was on the smaller side so we were able to use it until they were 19 months. We are using it for #2 now. FYI the weight/height limit is 30lb or 32 inches or if there is less than 1 inch of space between the top of their head and the car seat shell, whichever limit they reach first. Also to note, don’t get any knockoff car seats. There are another legitimate brands that make a car seat/stroller, in the USA there is the Evenflo Shyft DualRide which is cheaper than the Doona. https://www.safeintheseat.com is a great resource and they even have a car seat finder!
r/BabyBumps • Best Infant Car Seat when we have no car? ->Wife and I had a “stroller off,” and I wanted the Doona, and she wanted to get a uppababy whole shebangabang… So we bought both. Uppababy Bassinet on wheels was great with a newborn/infant… but once baby grew out of bassinet/didn’t care for it, we basically use nothing else but the doona… If I were to do it solo, I’d have been perfectly happy with the Doona… she still thinks we really benefited from the bassinet part of the uppa… but I don’t think so… it was a silly pointless luxury. Anyways… food for thought.
r/NewParents • FTM who needs to hear some real life advice about stroller car seat options ->It is the perfect stroller. We travel often, and it’s been the best thing ever. It’s a stroller! It’s a car seat! It goes in a plane!
r/NewParents • FTM who needs to hear some real life advice about stroller car seat options ->I preferred my Doona to the Mesa - my kids were really uncomfortable in it (the Mesa) and I used the Doona so much more. Especially once I had a toddler, the Doona was worth its weight in gold for my newborn.
r/Buyingforbaby • Integrated car seat/stroller combo worth it? ->I’d say the snoo, but my baby didn’t give a shit about it. Doona has been clutch. Downside is you can’t use it after a year since it isn’t convertible to a bigger car seat
r/HENRYfinance • What baby items were worth splurging on? ->Have graco snugride. Found the stroller and seat latching mechanism to be wonky. It’s a lot of guess work to latch the carrier to the wheel base. It got super annoying and we switched to Doona. It doesn’t have bells and whistles unless you buy the accessories but the convenience factor is incredible.
r/NewDads • Infant seat carrier/Car Seat & Stroller recommendations ->We got the doona for car travel. It’s not the best stroller and that’s okay because it’s really just a car seat with wheels. We rock the uppababy for most day to day activities. Nuna is a good option though if you don’t want two strollers. I see plenty of folks around town with it and most seem to like it.
r/AskNYC • Parents without cars - best infant car seat for taxis/Ubers? ->For infants the Doona is awesome and the fully functional car-seat into stroller is such a game-changer for travel. Also - if you’re on a budget or just looking for value in general, I love the $60 Cosco Scenera Next car seat. We bought it for our toddler as our “travel” car seat because our expensive fancy Nuna Rava weighs like 10x as much and stays permanently in our car, and its more comfortable for her, easier to install for me, and super lightweight. Whatever you get, strongly recommend practicing install on a friend/family member’s car for a bit until you’ve got it down pat to alleviate any stress when you need to actually travel with the kiddo.
r/AskNYC • Parents without cars - best infant car seat for taxis/Ubers? ->This is what we do. We use our doona to help with getting my toddler and baby to/from daycare and other events. For more than dropping off or very quick trips, we use our regular stroller.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->We use the Doona. It's a stroller that collapses into a car seat. We use the stroller around the airport, check it under the plane for the flight, and then we have a car seat and a stroller when we get to our destination! ETA weve had the doona since LO was born, and it really is more of a stroller for a baby rather than toddler. Were still getting good use out of it but may not make sense financially to buy now if your LO is 19 mo. Just thinking out loud, but its what has worked for us!
r/toddlers • If you don't fly with a car seat then what do you use in the car when you arrive at your destination? ->We had a doona. We actually loved. It meets the crash testing ratings here in the US. In terms of the time the baby is in the doona, our son was never really in the doona for long periods of time. You’d either wake him up to feed or change him. My biggest complaint with the doona is the price and the short life span it has. It’s way too expensive for the few months you can use it. However, it’s so convenient. Feel free to ask any questions.
r/AskNYC • What do people do about car seats and taxis? ->At two years old - it really depends on the kid. We used a doona until around 2 (\~16 flights with it before 2 when we would fly to our vacation home). But at 2, he didn't want to be confined to a car seat for the entire flight and he wanted to move around. So while everyone here will say yes car seat - at that age, it is very tricky as they want more freedom and aren't potatoes anymore. For a 5 hour flight at 2 years old, I would not do it if it were my kid. Plus my kid never wanted to be pushed around in the stroller in the airport. It depends on the kid. Try strapping them into a car seat for 5 hours and see how long that lasts.
r/toddlers • Flying with car seat? ->Another doona user We have a doona specifically for travel and as a backup/spare. We have a Chicco keyfit 35 as our main car seat Doona is great for getting through the airport and to a family member home. We still generally baby carry most of the time but the doona can fit through a TSA scanner, it's easy to wheel through the airport, and can easily be checked (they make nice bags for them). It can also be secured without a base (with just a seatbelt) so we can easily get it secured in a relative's car, Uber, or rental without needing to worry about exactly what car is showing up We got ours for around $300 with a base locally with a 2028 expiration date and plan to resell for $200 once our baby outgrows it
r/babywearing • Traveling with a car seat in Uber/Lyft/Taxi and no stroller? ->If you want to only buy one product for a little while atleast 8 months for the stroller portion and then 18 months for the car seat. Get the Doona.
r/newborns • Baby carseat and stroller ->I know there are some droolers out there, but modern car seats are incredibly easy to install. It blows my mind that people can’t figure them out. For reference I have a Doona car seat and a baby jogger city turn car seat.
r/BuyItForLife • Diono Radian 3R car seats. The last 10 years which is way longer than an average car seat. They are comfortable for the kids and for the adults sitting next to the seat. They are relatively lightweigh, airplane approved and foldable. Newborn to 10 years. Love it ->Absolutely love our Doona
r/HENRYfinance • What baby items were worth splurging on? ->Doona car seat is worth every penny. Having a built in stroller is a game changer.
r/HENRYfinance • What baby items were worth splurging on? ->If you travel at least a few times a year: Doona, RideSafe vest for toddler age and up, and one of those strollers that fits in the overhead once kid is big enough to sit in one.
r/HENRYfinance • What baby items were worth splurging on? ->Doona car seat and baby brezza formula maker were top tier.
r/HENRYfinance • What baby items were worth splurging on? ->Doona is great. Didn’t have it with my first, did for our second and it’s a big upgrade.
r/HENRYfinance • What baby items were worth splurging on? ->I loved the Doona, too. We used it for about a year and then resold it for $300.
r/AskNYC • What do people do about car seats and taxis? ->Nuna pipa + nuna trvl I don’t get the love for the doona. it’s very short so if you’re remotely tall you’re going to be uncomfortable. And it’s significantly heavier than other car seats so something to consider when swinging in the back seat of a cab
r/AskNYC • Parents without cars - best infant car seat for taxis/Ubers? ->I live in NYC too. We have a car but only use on weekends to go to the country house. I highly recommend Doona and Uppa Baby Vista. Also a yoyo travel stroller. Doona is great for cabs and Ubers because you don’t need the base. It’s also fine for little errands and trips. The uppa baby vista is great. It’s a tank, and annoying on the bus but it can be done!!
r/BabyBumps • Can someone please explain stroller/ car seats and what I actually need 😭 so completely overwhelmed with options ->I guess the Doona would be cheaper than that. It's a stroller and a car seat in one. There's also the Evenflo shyft that's the same thing. With my first child I had the Evenflo Omni that's $229 right now where the stroller can turn into a bassinet and the stroller bassinet part comes out and you can put the infant carseat into the stroller frame. I thought it was easily foldable and was an awesome travel system.
r/pregnant • Best travel system (car seat + stroller) for newborns that folds easiest? ->Had it, LOVED IT, so sad when my kiddo grew out of it! 10/10 would recommend.
r/beyondthebump • What do y’all think about the doona? ->Love our doona! It’s a lifesaver for quick trips in the car to run errands since we have a bigger stroller for day to day (we live in a major city).
r/beyondthebump • What do y’all think about the doona? ->I have a done and it sits back out of the car so the baby’s head doesn’t fall forward and block breathing. Still we don’t like to keep our babies in there for to long, they also get hot.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->I have a doona and love it. I also live in a smaller town with lots of walking space so I rarely am driving more than 5 minutes. I was aware of the 2 hour rule from the get go so any time we’d drive out of town I’d just bring my baby wrap and wear my daughter to give her a break while I walked around. It’s really more of a back saver than anything. I’m 5’0 and I love being able to get her out of the car and roll her to where I need to go rather than carry her the whole time, especially since I had a c section and my abdominal muscles aren’t back to where they were. For me to was also a money saver. I didn’t have to worry about getting a car seat and a stroller. I could just get an all in one. As long as you’re keeping track of time I find that it’s not that hard to make sure they aren’t in it too long.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->Agree with the other posters. You’d still need a regular stroller. The doona is insanely heavy and bulky to live in and out of the car or other places, especially after your baby weighs more. I can’t even lift it safely. It’s really good for short things (dr appts, coffee etc). For long walks we use the stroller because they’re not supposed to be in the car seat so long when they’re little. Depending on the size of your baby it doesn’t last so long. It is definitely not for going on a stroll. There’s no storage and it’s a bit low It also doesn’t make a lot of sense if you’re not gonna be using a car. The point of it is that it’s a car seat that converts to a stroller. If you don’t need a car, I’d just get a regular stroller. I know a lot of people use it for flights, but some say it doesn’t fit through the aisles on some planes so I’m not sure about that
r/NewParents • Should I get the doona infant car seat? Is it better than the nuna travel system? ->I have 4 kids, I’ve found my favorite set up changes drastically with age and family make up. I liked the Doona with my youngest a lot. It made it easy to run errands. I would absolutely get one again if we were having more kids. I had the Britax system with my middle. It was fine. No complaints, it worked as expected. I have a GB Pockit All City for travel. It fits in a backpack and overhead bin. Big fan. I have a single and double BOB. This was great for zoos, hikes, pumpkin patches.
r/Mommit • Stroller/Travel system recommendations? ->I have a Doona that I use for right now and I used it on a recent trip with my baby, I wore him in the airports and out and about and threw my bag into the stroller. when I was with my parents I just left it in the car
r/babywearing • Traveling with a car seat in Uber/Lyft/Taxi and no stroller? ->we use it as the main car seat and we also have another one for when he’s a bit bigger, but I reallllly love the Doona cause it’s just so easy haha
r/babywearing • Traveling with a car seat in Uber/Lyft/Taxi and no stroller? ->super worth it imo! we just got rid of ours sadly as our LO is too big for it now. it made getting in and out of the car so easy, especially when needing to keep baby sleeping im 5’2 and my husband is 6’0 and he pushed it around more than me. never had any issues! we were also able to take it on a trip and loved being able to use it at the airport and it fit perfectly on the plane seat
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->I love it! We use it so much and it is absolutely worth it. We are for sure using it again with the next baby. However, it is expensive and I can tell our girl is getting bigger for it (she is 60th percentile in weight and 70th percentile in height at 4 months) but I’m still hoping to use it longer. We are moving to Nuna convertible car seat and Nuna stroller after this, and I’m dreading till that day lol 😂 Would love to use the Doona as long as we can, but we will see 😅
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->It’s short, has no storage, is way heavier than a regular car seat and doesn’t last very long.
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->It worked great for our babies. 3yr gap. The oldest grew out of it by 11mo, the youngest is still in it now at 6mo. It is expensive, but we feel that we definitely got our money's worth out of it especially considering the incredible convenience. I'm 5'10" and never had a problem with the height of the handle. My 3yo loves to push his brother around with the handle at the lower level. My wife is 5'4" and either handle level works for her. A friend made us an elastic cover with pockets and a zipper front window which took care of the shade issue. Other than that we've probably put 100+ miles on this as a stroller between errands, travel, trips to the park, etc. It handles quite well and while we do want more storage space, we make do with a backpack if necessary (like park trips). As far as safety, it feels just as secure (when we tried manually applying hard side and torsional load and the latch feels very strong) as the other convertible car seats that we looked at. Overall I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient and flexible option.
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->Going on 7 months, it's great! Definitely doesn't have storage, but that hasn't been an issue at all for us. We manage to carry everything we need in our organized diaper bag. This is our first child. If we have another kid, and this carseat expires, we would buy another one with no hesitation.
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->I loved mine. My son maxed out at 10 months for height and it was a hard switch. The Doona spoiled me. It makes...frankly everything easier. Shopping, walking to and from the car, errands, short walks. It was especially great postpartum. It's a little heavier than a normal bucket seat but you only have to lift it in and out of the car. I don't think I would have been able to do half the things I did without it. It was especially great for me because I have a heart condition that gets triggered by carrying heavy things around. Also good as a single mom living near a questionable neighborhood (my apartments are fine but a block over isn't). We always get home in the dark in the winter and I was able to just pop the wheels and hurry through the parking lot to my apartment I don't think it would be good for anyone who has to walk up a lot of stairs though. If you go on long walks or on a lot of uneven ground, you would need a normal stroller which might make the Doona unnecessary The handle comes up pretty far. It extends, so you might have only seen it on the lower setting. I'm 5'6 and had no problems. My sister is 5'4 and kept hers on the lower setting
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->I live in NYC with no car and the doona was a lifesaver for like 7-8 months. Dude would have fit longer but he wanted a more upright seat. I'm 5 8 and it's a little short, but fine. For long walks, I'd recommend something else Oh also brilliant for air travel. Fits in security scanner and seat.
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->We had the doona and at like 5 months we got the joolz aer. We also had a hand me down city jogger - he likes the stroller a lot!
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->We love our Doona! I was afraid it would be too short too, but honestly I don't mind it and the convenience is incomparable. My partner and I are a foot apart in height and can both push it with ease. It seems to be of excellent quality and engineering. We take it for long walks and don't have another stroller at the moment. It's not the best on unpaved paths (especially if they're too rocky) but it's not bad. Honestly I think my only critique of the Doona is how heavy it is, but since you mostly push it around it's not a big deal. We have the Doona sunshade cover and bag attachment which are great too.
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->I absolutely loved ours. I’m 5’7 and didn’t feel hunched. We baby wore whenever we took long walks instead of a stroller, but tbh the Doona is pretty smooth and worked well for most things. Plus it’s nice to be able to fold it up if we encountered stairs. My lil guy maxed the height at a year and a half. If we ever have another kid, I’m buying it again for sure!
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->It's a wonderful convenience item. My husband is 6'5 and while he wishes it were a tad longer in the handle he loves it. I am 5'1 and we bought a huge SUV so by 8.5-9 months getting him in was challenging (more so height than just the weight of it). We still use it for travel and as our second car's car seat. I agree it does not replace a full sized stroller but we used that pretty much exclusively for the first two months of his life and just popped the storage bag you can buy on the back. If you are on the go a lot or travel frequently it's so great. Perk of having a baby later in life: I can and WILL pay for convenience any chance I have.
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->It is really short and kind of small. It really came in handy for traveling but my baby is on the bigger side so he wouldn’t have been able to use it long. We rented it for our trips instead.
r/NewParents • What is your opinion of the Doona stroller/carseat combo? ->I have and love my Doona but it’s really only for car/plane/cab/and quick errands. Great for running to the pediatrician or the bank. Terrible for going on walks etc. It’s a pretty rough ride over anything but very smooth pavement, and has a fairly short handle for pushing. If you’re not even planning to use it as a plane seat I definitely wouldn’t spend the money. ETA it can barely handle the grass in my front yard, it will definitely be a rough go in snow and mud. If you’re used to a real stroller I think you’ll hate it.
r/NewParents • Traveling for the first time with baby. Buy Doona? Or deal with stroller and car seat? ->We have a Doona for travelling/quick trips that involve getting from point A to point B, and an Uppababy Cruz for walks or plans that require baby to be secure for a longer period of time. The Doona is amazingly convenient but at the end of the day it is just a car seat on wheels and you shouldn’t have your newborn in a car seat for more than 2 hours so it’s really not the most comfortable stroller for baby for extended periods. We love the Cruz for that reason - the bassinet extension is perfect for baby and the suspension is really good so it moves very smoothly!
r/NewParents • FTM who needs to hear some real life advice about stroller car seat options ->Just had my first flight with my 3mo and the Doona was probably the best thing about it. So glad I spent that money.
r/toddlers • Putting toddler in car seat on the plane ->I've just had a horrible flight experience alone with my 3mo and the one best thing about it was the Doona + car seat / stroller. So glad I splashed out for it as I don't know how I would have wrangled everything otherwise.
r/toddlers • Putting toddler in car seat on the plane ->I’m a doona mama about to make the switch to this travel system! I just learned about this but I am intrigued! We love our doona so much but bub is 19lbs and growing at 7.5 months so looking for more practicality and we used a stroller so much with our first. We also have the first revolve seat for our oldest and it’s been amazing. What did you decide?
r/beyondthebump • Evenflo Revolve 180 Travel System vs. Doona ->Hi! I was similarly feeling overwhelmed by options after making my husband watch a few hours of YouTube videos comparing strollers during first trimester. It's funny to me in retrospect! So many people have SUCH strong opinions and frankly, you can't really go wrong with most options, so try not to stress or overthink it! (My two cents) Sorry for a ton of text but my reco below-- After realizing that getting overwhelmed by all the options was silly, I realized that I was not obligated to make the *right* decision the first time around. Heck I'd be super surprised if I ended up loving EVERYTHING we initially selected when I've never had a baby before! It's like ordering outfits on a Final Sale for a vacation without knowing where you're going and if they'll fit.... stressful. My approach (and this may not work for you based on your preferences or priorities or budget etc. - but it's worked really well for us) is to get a couple of items gently used at a large discount, and/or borrow stuff from friends / test out friends stuff, and then commit to buying new once you have an idea of what works for your needs/lifestyle/preferences. I got a used nuna Pippa infant carseat + base for $150 off Craigslist after some diligent searching, and got a Doona for $300 off Craigslist (similarly diligent searching). Honestly they've both been great.... the Pippa is super light (I believe lightest on the market) and super easy to snap into place into the base (I didn't appreciate this until a friend commented that it's so easy compared to whatever one she has). Honestly oftentimes with the bebe, if it's a short trip somewhere, I'll just carry him in the car seat rather than deal with the hassle of a stroller bc the carseat is so dang light. (I figure I'm getting a good arm workout lol!) The doona is awesome for a younger baby. It is a stroller carseat all in one that doesn't require a base. When I saw the Buy New price I rolled my eyes and initially dismissed it as something only for bougie people with too much money to spend. However I did end up finding one used and decided to get it after my husband and I realized we'd be flying a couple of times in baby's first six months to visit family- and having less stuff to travel with seemed ideal for baby. It's AWESOME and in retrospect was such a great investment. For airports, its awesome having only one item for flying + whenever you're away from home. You don't have to worry about having a car seat base, and a stroller, and attachments, and the car seat, etc. When we are going somewhere around town where we do wanna have him in the stroller, we will either buckle it in on the other side of the back row (opposite the Pippa base) or we will leave it folded up in the trunk and simply transfer the baby from the Pippa to the doona once we've gotten where we are going. The flexibility has worked super well for us. Our LO is 4 months old. Neither of these solutions works all the way through our son being a toddler, because both are infant systems, but we expect to use them until ~1 year old ish. I figured when he graduates out of these options we will either sell them used, hold onto them for a future baby, or donate them, and then we will get one of the graco "grow with me" car seats at that point (they go on sale quite often so as long as I start anticipating when we will need it, I think I'll be able to get it at a good price!). And then at that point for strollers, I think we will have a good idea for what to do there too! I've heard from more people that they invest in these super trendy, all-bases-covered (expensive, has every feature) strollers and then after a year or so they end up just using a basic umbrella stroller because it is so much easier and hassle free. I think by the time our kid has grown out of these infant systems, we as a family will have a better idea of practically what we like about a longer term stroller and what we want to buy at that point. We will also have an idea of our son's personality- is he constantly on the go and doesn't want to be strapped in long? Does he love sitting in the stroller and we expect to use it more frequently? Hard to predict when bebe is just a bun in the oven, but slightly easier to have a grip on once you've spent some time with them! Lastly I'll say that friends had opinions. - "If you think you'll have multiple, go ahead NOW and get the Uppa baby that accommodates 2 kids." At 2 months pregnant last fall, I went to a pumpkin patch with my friend who was pushing her two kiddos around in that stroller and geez it was like watching someone drive a Ford Expedition down the road. I'll definitely consider it if/when the time comes- but until then, do I really want such a big bulky stroller with SO much underspace storage and so many features for a 14 lb lump who just discovered his hands but isn't really moving that much? Nah! And who is to say that I'll even get pregnant so quickly that I'll have two kids in strollers at the same time? I don't want to make decisions now revolving around hypothetical events in my future - esp when i don't need such a huge stroller right now! - "Get a jogging stroller if you plan to walk your baby around the neighborhood or over rough terrain." I ended up enjoying carrying my baby on my chest in my carrier when my husband and I take nightly walks - so I'm glad I haven't invested in a jogging stroller yet for that use case! - "Make sure you get a lot of cargo space underneath for all of your stuff + other people's purses and bags!" OK my baby so far doesn't really need that much stuff. We haven't gotten to the stage of a million toys, constant snacks, etc. Carrying his diaper bag on my back is not that big of a deal! And if I'm out with friends or family- they can carry their own purses! I'm not a mule lugging everyone's stuff around! I don't live in a house with a TON of space, and frankly all the baby stuff will add up quickly and starts getting overwhelming. I have really enjoyed our approach of growing with our baby's needs and as we've figured out our own preferences as our day to day life has changed so much with a baby! For me it was hard to anticipate exactly what would work for us based on others reviews, so we prioritized convenience / ease of use - lightest weight Infant car seat (pipa) and awesome all in one infant system (doona). We will resell our stuff or hand it down to a friend and then purchase (or ask as a Christmas gift) the next stroller or car seat when we get there. TLDR: 1. Nuna pipa is great infant car seat because SOOO lightweight (I end up carrying my son into every pediatrician appt for example because it's just so easy and not super heavy) 2. Doona - AMAZING esp if you're going to be traveling and you don't want lug a ton of stuff with you. 3. Don't stress or get overwhelmed bc there are more impactful, important decisions to make in the grand scheme of things and there is a large resell market if you end up realizing what you thought you wanted isn't working. It's unreasonable to think that you are an expert on a situation you are unfamiliar with. No need to feel pressure to make a decision that will work for you 3 or 4 years from now bc who knows what life will really even look like at that point?
r/NewParents • Travel system recommendations ->We brought a Doona when traveling with our under 1 year old. Its a car seat that converts to a wheeled stroller in about 2 seconds. We asked the gate attendant prior to flight if there were any free seats to put it next to us on the plane. If they said it was a full flight, we gate checked it. We got to take it with us on the plane about 90% of the time.
r/Parenting • Do most parents not bring car seats on planes? ->Flight to the UK, here. Oh we had a lot of attitude when we brought our approved-for-plane Doona onboard. The flight attendant was so snooty about it too. "You'll never fit it on the seat" he told us. Except it fit on the seat perfectly. Showed him the sticker and everything. He left in a huff. Though, they had the last laugh because the second pram we actually had checked as baggage got lost. It was with Norwegian Air and I was so salty about the whole thing I never flew with them again.
r/Parenting • Do most parents not bring car seats on planes? ->We’re in the US and have always brought our car seat into the cabin and buckled baby into it in her own seat. It feels safer to us. We initially just carried our car seat onboard, but recently purchased a Doona, which unfolds into a stroller. It’s been really handy.
r/Parenting • Do most parents not bring car seats on planes? ->As far as car seats go, there are some travel car seats like the RideSafer on Amazon that are easy to pack and take with. There are weight requirements for them, so not sure on the 1yr old, but the 4yr old is probably a good fit. If you don’t want to spend more money on that, your other option is to get car seat bags and check them on your flight to Florida. Obviously there’s pros and cons to that as well. We have two kids, 9mo and 2.5yrs, we took our Doona car seat and a RideSafer on the last trip, it works fairly well. Pro tip: get the RideSafer out and adjusted at home before you leave on your trip. Trying to harness up the little one right before you leave is not a fun experience… For transportation, you can do an Uber XL or hire a private shuttle. Some hotels near the ports will have shuttle service, but you’ll want to call in advance to confirm. Typically shuttles range from $15-25 per person. Privacy will totally depend on your party size, your willingness to pay a bit extra, and if there are other travelers in your hotel. When traveling for a cruise, especially with kids, I’d recommend coming in the night before and staying at a hotel so you have some flexibility and don’t miss your embarkation.
r/royalcaribbean • Flying into Fort Lauderdale with two kids (4y & 1y). How should we go about transportation to and from the airport and ship terminal? ->I live in NY with my high percentile baby. Doona is clutch. I definitely wouldn’t come without a car seat. Carseats have expiration dates so I wouldn’t buy one that’s expired. And of course as others have mentioned, you don’t know where it’s been. I bought my doona secondhand but it was like-new. I trust the person I bought it from but YMMV. Is there anyone you could borrow a doona from? It really is the best option for nyc travel with an infant, Imo.
r/Buyingforbaby • Would you buy a used 2019 Doona just for travel? ->We have the UB Vista V2 stroller + Mesa V2 car seat for our “normal” set up but I recently traveled with my 4-month old alone and couldn’t imagine having to break all that down to gate check. We were also gifted the Doona which I was planning on returning bc my husband is pretty tall and the Doona is pretty low to the ground but decided my mental health for solo travel as a FTM was worth it and it was definitely a game changer. I did buy the padded travel bag for the Doona ($100) and it was sooo worth it. The Doona IMO is too heavy for every day use but until my kid outgrows it, I won’t travel without it.
r/NewParents • Airplane travel with 4 month old… Stroller recommendations needed! ->I just did this with an 8-month-old for a 4-hour flight from San Diego to Nashville and back. EDIT: We did NOT purchase baby their own seat, and held them for the entire flight. Here is what you do: 1. Do NOT haul the stroller and car seat if you have the cash for a combo rental; instead, rent a Stroller/Car Seat combo if you aren't going for too long. I used this option, and it was seamless to put baby inside, carry the baby during the flight and gate check the combo, then get it at the gate and put the baby back in it once landed. This works great through TSA because you get to hold the baby while you walk through the metal detector and then put the baby right back in the stroller/car seat. [https://rents4baby.com/product/doona-stroller-car-seat/](https://rents4baby.com/product/doona-stroller-car-seat/) The legs tuck in underneath, and baby never has to leave it to switch from carseat to stroller mode. So seamless. 2. Pack a single bag for babies that has [toys that stick to the window](https://www.amazon.com/Spinner-Suction-Spinners-Spinning-Toddlers/dp/B0CXSRSTT2/ref=asc_df_B0CXSRSTT2?mcid=8d5606c966bb3850a5b7e13a2518d62d&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=700712048143&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5380929826090823969&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031352&hvtargid=pla-2317859315264&psc=1), and they can play with wipes, snacks, and burp/spit cloths. 3. If you pump, it fits in the overhead compartment pretty easily. Pack a bottle as well, full and ready to go if the baby starts to cry. 4. Flight attendants and other passengers are incredibly sympathetic to your situation; don't be afraid to get up and walk around with the baby. 5. GET THE FIRST ROW OF THE AIRCRAFT. Even if that means upgrading you OR your spouse's boarding position to A 1-15, have the upgraded person board early with bags and snag that front row. It provides leg room and easy access to the overhead bins so you can grab things.
r/SouthwestAirlines • Flying with a baby ->We got the Doona! Stroller shopping was so stressful and we had a lot of friends suggest it, so we went for it.
r/pregnant • Best travel system (car seat + stroller) for newborns that folds easiest? ->Going to echo the Doona as mentioned here - it transforms in to a stroller and is easy to get in to cars and taxis without the base, ultra safe, and has a great accessory lineup. We love ours.
r/AskNYC • Parents without cars - best infant car seat for taxis/Ubers? ->We use a Graco snugride 35 with a Baby Jogger city tour 2 and adapters for the car seat. Altogether the system is around $350 if I recall. The car seat can serve the same role as a stroller basinet the first few months until the baby has the head control to sit in the stroller directly. Installing it in a taxi is trivial since it can be secured with a standard seatbelt only. We use the included base when we have a rental car. I'll echo what others said. You'll want something that works with your stroller because carrying the car seat is not practical once you get to your destination. Clipping it into the stroller is a must. I've used the Doona before too. It's an excellent system as well, but the infant will outgrow it faster than a stroller that allows for a car seat adapter.
r/AskNYC • Parents without cars - best infant car seat for taxis/Ubers? ->Yeah just to make OP feel better, we have a doona and uppababy cruz and wish we’d gone with a nuna pipa. We got the doona because we don’t have a car, but we travel a lot and like going on big walks and the doona is a shit stroller. On our last trip we ended up borrowing a bob running stroller. Nuna strollers are quite foldable (easier than the cruz i think?). On the plus side though I feel like an engineering whiz when I strap it into an uber lmao. It is also nice that it is heavy because we use it without the base.
r/Buyingforbaby • Nuna Car Seat ->I would suggest a Doona. It can be a stroller/carrier/carseat it is great for Ubers and public transportation and it has a base for the car. It is compact and easy to maneuver. The only drawback is it can only accommodate up to one year or so usually.
r/BabyBumps • Can someone please explain stroller/ car seats and what I actually need 😭 so completely overwhelmed with options ->We live in Chicago and did extensive research. Was between the Doona and the YoYo. Went in person and ended up with the Nuna which wasn’t even on my radar as an option. We got the Nuna trvl lx with the pipa urbn car seat. Bundle is $950. The biggest thing for me was safety and the ability to handle the stroller in an urban area alone. You press a single button and homie folds up like a dream and isn’t heavy at all. While it was ok… The issue with the Doona was it’s a multi step process and not one you can do alone while holding a baby in one arm. The Nuna stroller is newborn and toddler ready which was a huge plus for us. Car seat easily pops in and is a dream in terms of putting in the car without the need for a base. You can also attach with a seatbelt. Overall very happy with our purchase!! Highly encourage you to look in person to make the best decision.
r/BabyBumps • Can someone please explain stroller/ car seats and what I actually need 😭 so completely overwhelmed with options ->I have a Doona and am obsessed with it. My LO is 15 months now and I’m not looking forward to when she ages out of it height wise. It was the absolute best purchase. We’ve taken it on airplanes since it is rated for that both in a seat and checked. We always take it on vacation because it’s easy to use in other cars without the base, can do the airplanes, and consolidates us into bringing one item instead of separate car seat and stroller. It’s also nice to stroller baby around the airport in. I LOVE how easy it maneuvers and can easily drive it one handed if my other hand is full. It does not do well in nature though - you won’t be bringing it down a trail and you can go through grass but it’s not smooth. It’s a pavement stroller. But when baby falls asleep on the way to the store in the car, it’s so nice to just take it out of the car quietly, slowly pop the wheels out, and stroller them into whatever you need to do asleep. Similarly if they fall asleep in it out- just fold it up quietly and in the car they go without waking. A big reason I liked it too was because I knew I’d be carting my LO around a lot by myself and needed ease. Carrying those baby buckets by hand seemed like an utter nightmare and heavy. This solved that. All attachments I bought through Amazon or Temu - attachable storage, rain guard, bug guard - but I really didn’t use them because it doesn’t fold up with them. We just used a diaper bag and if LO wanted out I’d carry LO and the stroller would carry the diaper bag as I pushed it. Never needed another stroller, this has been it so far. I love this thing and can’t wait to use it on the next kid. I will say, my LO is on the lighter side which does help weight wise as they get bigger and you need to unph this thing in the car. But those really nice strollers weigh a lot too. You’re going to be unphing something either way.
r/beyondthebump • What do y’all think about the doona? ->I love mine, loved not having to carry something around. The biggest criticism I think is that because you’re not taking baby in and out of a seat you may be more likely to leave your baby in there for too long. I did use mine as a stroller when baby was little. We switched to a convertible seat when before he outgrew the doona just because It’s not as comfortable.
r/beyondthebump • What do y’all think about the doona? ->We have a bugaboo car seat and stroller, but I went overseas with my baby when he was 10-11 months old. I wasn’t going to be hiring a car and would be going from car to car (family/friends’ cars plus Ubers) so the Doona was the perfect solution for us. We didn’t use it on the plane so I can’t speak to that - we just checked it and had the baby on our laps - but it was amazing during our trip, so convenient and quick to get in/out of cars. The handle is low and the wheels are small (so I wouldn’t consider it as my main stroller) and there is no storage (so if you’re like me and hate carrying things you need a bag that hangs off the handle) but it’s such a great solution for a very specific use-case.
r/beyondthebump • What do y’all think about the doona? ->Positional asphyxiation is only an issue in car seats that aren't at the right angle or for kids that aren't strapped in properly. So, like a car seat taken out of the car and placed on the floor or in a shopping cart. Not ones that are clicked into an appropriate stroller or properly installed in a car. All of those incorrect situations allow the possibility of a baby ending up in a chin to chest position that closes off the airway which causes positional asphyxiation. That being said, babies spines are also still developing and aren't supposed to be locked into the same position in a car seat for long periods of time. All that considered still for me makes the Doona not worth it. Plus, it's too short for anyone that's taller than like 5'4" unless you want back pain.
r/beyondthebump • What do y’all think about the doona? ->I have a Doona and absolutely love it! But I think of it as a car seat with wheels, not a stroller. You'll still need a real stroller, the doona is not great for walks or anything like that. But it is AMAZING as a car seat that I don't have to awkwardly carry places.
r/beyondthebump • What do y’all think about the doona? ->Yes! We have the doona car seat stroller. It’s amazing. However, she’ll be too big for it by the time we travel internationally.
r/travel • Traveling with 1 year old to Ireland in the summer - to bring a car seat/rent one there? ->That's what we do on long days out. Especially when they're really little, you can't really abandon them in a carseat/stroller for hours anyway. They still need to be fed/changed/etc. As she's getting older, she really loves getting out and people watching in cafes and pubs. We've always taken breaks and/or worn her for part of it. We really like our Doona because we don't drive, so if we decide to get taxi instead of train we can do it safely.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->We have a Doona. On our 3rd kid now and we beyond love it. Anyway - we did the carseat test with our kids in the stroller at the hospital. I can't speak to other people's habits or kids or how long they go past 2 hours but all of ours had no problem passing the 2 hour carseat test in this when they were newborns.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->I have the Doona, and my infant has never been in it that long, there’s never been a need. No long trips, no walks lasting that long either. Baby stays upright very well and had napped in there a few times. It’s not that the position will cause breathing issues, it’s if their head falls over that problems arise. If baby is being watched, there shouldn’t be issues if they need to be in there longer.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->As someone who used and loved and will be using again a doona- I find this criticism of the doona so strange. The alternative to using a doona is most often using a travel system where you click the car seat into a stroller base. But you don’t hear people going after travel systems for being unsafe because you aren’t supposed to leave a baby in a car seat for more than 2 hours. All baby gear has the propensity to be dangerous if used incorrectly, bottles, swaddles, car seat, baby carriers etc. and the onus is on us as parents to be informed and use things correctly. And with the doona (and all car seat/stroller systems) it’s knowing that it shouldn’t be used over two hours continuously and abiding by that.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->I really see this as a love to hate thing. I was skeptical about it at first too. I have a really expensive fancy stroller and got the doona for travel and use it way more bc my baby prefers the doona. I don’t get the whole it’s illegal in Canada bc i don’t live there (but I used to) and it’s legal in my country so I’m good with it.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->I had a second hand Doona and I hated it. My main gripe about it was the heaviness of the carseat plus the weight of baby. If you don't have alot of arm strength I would not recommend getting it. I have a son's convertible carseat and it's so much more practical. I have a separate stroller with a bassinet but most of the time I baby wear if we're going to the store.
r/NewParents • Should I get the doona infant car seat? Is it better than the nuna travel system? ->It also depends how large your baby is and how fast they'll grow. Mine was born 7lbs 3 oz and by 2 months he was 15lbs. we got rid of the Doona after 3 weeks.
r/NewParents • Should I get the doona infant car seat? Is it better than the nuna travel system? ->I love our doona. Just be aware that kids can grow out of it pretty quickly. Also, unlike lots of strollers, there’s absolutely no storage on it. Shopping trips still require a cart or basket if you want to buy more than one or two small things. The cover is pretty easy to remove and toss into the washing machine as well. Edit: I would not suggest it as your only option. The biggest benefit to me is that I don’t have to load up a stroller into the car wherever we go.
r/NewParents • Should I get the doona infant car seat? Is it better than the nuna travel system? ->The Doona is amazing at the things it is designed for, and terrible at the things it’s not. We had one and loved it, but it’s not going to be for everyone and isn’t designed to replace a stroller. If you have no or few steps between your exterior door and your car, and live in a climate that is cold, snowy, or rainy- the doona works really well. You secure the baby inside in the comfort of your home, wheel out, and can have the doona secure and the car moving in well under a minute. If your destination is firm smooth ground, the doona will work really well. Doctors offices and short trips- perfect. What the doona is not for: 1. A stroller replacement. The baby positioning is such that the car seat limit applies even when not being used as a car seat. The wheels are great on solid ground but struggle on even packed smooth rock. 2. People with lots of steps to go up or down. The doona is heavy. I could lift it with one arm and baby, my wife struggled with two arms. If we were going somewhere with steps I was lifting. 3. Cost sensitive families. Your baby will outgrow the doona quickly and it isn’t cheap.
r/NewParents • Should I get the doona infant car seat? Is it better than the nuna travel system? ->We have the nuna and I don’t feel like it’s heavy at all. I’m dad so maybe that’s why but it’s super super light compared to my brothers Doona. Also, my nephew who is 30th percentile has already grown out of his Doona at 1. Plus the tires on the Doona are tiny. And plastic. I routinely run over large rocks/curbs/anything I wasn’t with our nuna and my 11 month old loves it.
r/NewParents • Should I get the doona infant car seat? Is it better than the nuna travel system? ->No man that thing weighs more than my son. My SIL is tiny. Like 4-11, 100lbs and the only way she gets that beast out of my brothers truck is basically just chucking it. Plus, those wheels just aren’t made as well as the Nunas. All my friends have children and of all of our car seat/stroller systems I can confidently say the Nuna is the best I’ve seen. By a wide margin Edit: my 11 month old is also gonna fit in the Nuna for a long time still. He’s almost too big for my nephews Doona already
r/NewParents • Should I get the doona infant car seat? Is it better than the nuna travel system? ->For the record, in case you have it, the Doona is super easy and fits nicely in the plane seats. And obviously you have the benefit of it being your stroller to and from the plane
r/delta • Do you have to bring your car seat on the plane if you buy a seat for a baby on Delta? ->Go for Doona, the carseat itself is also a stroller, I loved mine until we had our second kid and got a Nuna that could fit both kids.
r/GR86 • Need a car seat and stroller for a Newborn ->Tbh I’ve never really used stroller storage ever, get a good bag / backpack to carry around the stuff you’ll need. Doona is designed to be compact & lightweight, it’s the only thing I see remotely working in your car if you’re going to try to keep it with a newborn. If you get a bigger car with an actual backseat highly recommend Nuna for their system + storage.
r/GR86 • Need a car seat and stroller for a Newborn ->We got the Donna just for travel and it was great. Highly recommend, it made the airport easy and being able to put our son in the rental car without a base was super convenient. Edit: Forgot to add we checked the doona at the gate, as our son was just sitting on our lap for the flight.
r/SouthwestAirlines • How’s your experience? Traveling with baby - evenflo shyft dualride car seat ->Good points^^^. The doona did fit in the scanner so it was a breeze to get through TSA
r/SouthwestAirlines • How’s your experience? Traveling with baby - evenflo shyft dualride car seat ->I got the doona brand name. I have to admit it has been solid although I still think it is over priced. I am unsure on the warranty but I can’t even imagine anything breaking on it. I’m sure other ones that do the same function are fine as well.
r/SouthwestAirlines • How’s your experience? Traveling with baby - evenflo shyft dualride car seat ->It’s very pricey but the Doona sounds perfect for you. It’s great for walking then you can just fold it down into the car seat if you need it. It’s compact which would be great for public transport. There are some knockoffs or dupes for it I’m sure.
r/BabyBumps • Best Infant Car Seat when we have no car? ->Second the doona. That sounds perfect for the lifestyle you’re describing!
r/BabyBumps • Best Infant Car Seat when we have no car? ->I've loved the Doona for travel, but I'm usually visiting my parents who have a separate stroller there. It is great for the airport and folds up to use as your car seat on the plane. I will say that my 19-month-old was not having it this trip on the plane, but we haven't traveled in a few months and I think he just didn't understand what was even going on. He's about to grow out of it but my husband is really attached. We've loved it for our car seat as well. Not looking forward to figuring out the airport with the convertible carseat and travel stroller, though
r/BabyBumps • Stuck between Nuna and Uppababy ->I have the Uppa and love it. My husband and I say all the time that we’d choose it all over again. It’s totally worth the price. We travel a lot too and did receive the Doona for travel. It’s excellent for travel to avoid bringing out hefty stroller and so we just check one piece and not a car seat and stroller base. I agree when another commenter that it is super low though so I could never use it as my daily stroller. They are both excellent for their different uses though!
r/BabyBumps • Stuck between Nuna and Uppababy ->I love our Doona on trips with the newborn. Easy to pop into random Ubers. For the bigger kids we have two cheap travel car seats that are quite light and fit into a single car seat bag.
r/UKParenting • Taking Car Seats to Europe on flights ->I was considering a Doona this time but the limited handle height was the deal breaker for me, my husband is quite tall. We've gone for the best compatible newborn seat for a stroller we already own. Had a Nuna travel system first time around but sold it because we didn't like the actual seat of the pushchair. We also barely used the bassinet bit because our daughter preferred to be in a sling or carrier and being able to look around. I'd definitely prioritise the pushchair and then get a compatible car seat.
r/newborns • Insight about the Doona -- I'm torn! Carseat recs? ->We borrowed a friend’s doona for a trip out of state to see family. It was so bulky that we ended up just taking our daily chicco keyfit 35 and stroller caddy instead (bought off FB marketplace for like $20– I think around $120 new). It was perfect and way easier than the doona would’ve been. Especially since my mom’s car is a suburban with high back seats so I can’t imagine having to lift the doona in/out of that on the daily. I can definitely see the appeal of the doona and had it been something we used all the time I think I would’ve liked it more but it ultimately just doesn’t work for our family. My Chicco set up is SUPER lightweight and I love it. We’ve also got an uppababy Cruz stroller that it can go with (with an adapter) if we’re looking for more all-terrain stroller needs but for running to the store my travel system works fine.
r/newborns • Insight about the Doona -- I'm torn! Carseat recs? ->I love my doona. I have a four year old as well so being able to quickly load in and out of the car is a huge plus because we are always out and about. It’s also so easy to take in restaurants, stores, or play places because it’s so compact. I used a convertible car seat and vista stroller with the bassinet attachment for the first two months and it was such a pain. Wish I had just bought the doona sooner!
r/newborns • Insight about the Doona -- I'm torn! Carseat recs? ->If you do a lot of traveling, I think the Doona is worth it. I would never use it on a daily basis at home because it’s very low. But it’s very convenient for the airport and means you avoid bringing both a car seat and separate stroller. However, it is going to be a short-term investment because baby will grow out of it by a year. Then you would probably want a specific travel stroller. So you could consider a travel stroller with a lay-flat option or bassinet attachment now, you’d just also need to bring the car seat. For daily use we went with the Uppababy Vista and love it for our lifestyle. We use it primarily for walks around the neighborhood and nearby trail system, to bring to the park, etc. It is bulky and not as easy to bring in the car. Now that my son is older we actually use our travel stroller (Joolz Aer) a lot if we’re just going to the mall. For infant car seats we chose the Nuna Pipa Rx Lite and I’m so glad we went with a very lightweight option.
r/BabyBumps • Stuck between Nuna and Uppababy ->It depends on what you want it for. If you travel a good bit, yes! If you walk / go to malls / etc a lot, yes. It is heavy! 10 lbs more than most car seats. Depending on how wide your back car door opens, (and how close the car next to you parked) it could is difficult to get out on your own, with one hand. They age out fast because of the lay down position. Once my kiddo turned around 8 months, all she wanted to do was sit up in the stroller. She’s 22 months (32 in and 25lbs) and just technically aged out of it We bought ours second hand and used it for travel., walks with the dog, etc. We also bought the Nuna pipa light and Mixx stroller for more every day use
r/newborns • Insight about the Doona -- I'm torn! Carseat recs? ->We love the doona! My husband is over 6 ft and he easily pushes the stroller as do I. We use it with the base so it just snaps in. We have put over 100 miles in walking with the doona and the wheels are holding up really nicely and are extremely smooth. I believe it is about 16-17 lbs on its own, but lifting in and out of the vehicle and carrying into the house hasn’t been an issue for me or my husband.
r/newborns • Insight about the Doona -- I'm torn! Carseat recs? ->I’d recommend the Doona as it serves as both a stroller and car seat, and you don’t need to travel with two or with a bulky base.. plus it is easy to secure in a rental without the base and it’s super convenient. I’d buy the bag attachment which goes in the back of the seat as you can keep a change of clothes, diapers, changing pads, and bottles there. We used it to travel, my husband did pay for an extra seat so we can bring it on the plane. If you buy a different one just make sure it’s FAA approved (it’ll have a red sticker on the bottom of the seat because airlines will check when you board). Your car seat does not count as luggage, and neither does your diaper bag. (Pro tip- if you buy the bag attachment for the doona, don’t take it off until you board and you have an extra bag plus your diaper bag). In terms of the pack and play, I would call ahead of time when making your reservations usually all hotels (good ones at least) provide you with one or a crib. I would just pack sheets and some wipes to clean it. Try to keep baby up for 2-3 hours before you go on the plane so they take a good nap when taking off. Bring new toys to keep them entertained. Oh and a baby carrier will be heaven sent (if your baby enjoys them). Good luck!
r/beyondthebump • Best way to go about a car seat, stroller, and crib/pack n play for traveling internationally with baby? & any International travel tips with a baby ->Doona is used in Europe, we’ve traveled with it no problem.
r/beyondthebump • Best way to go about a car seat, stroller, and crib/pack n play for traveling internationally with baby? & any International travel tips with a baby ->We loved our doona and will be using it for our second baby. Yes, it is heavy but so convenient. It doesn’t replace a regular stroller for taking walks etc, but it is super convenient the first 10 months or so. My husband is tall and was comfortable pushing it. We also have a single to double stroller that we will use for long outings. The doona wheels aren’t really suited for outdoor use other than a parking lot.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We have the Doona and it’s great for on the go errands, etc. We also have the mockingbird which we use for hikes and rough terrain, bc the Doona wheels are not great. BUT, I will say… the Doona is sooooo heavy! I remember people told me this before we got it, and I sort of ignored it 😂 but I can barely carry it, I need my husband to do it every time lol. Definitely recommend it as something for travel, but not your only stroller.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We did for our second. It’s heavy but not unmanageable. I wish it had some storage but ultimately the convenience outweighs the cons. The height isn’t an issue as we aren’t super tall. I find it super helpful especially if I’m taking my toddler + baby out on my own as I can get baby in/out of the car quickly. We still have a regular stroller for walking though so I didn’t feel the burden of having to buy two before baby came.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Someone gave us their old one so I can't compare it to another brand. Personally, my wife and I love it. We have two of the bases installed in each our car and it makes our lives easier. Granted I am 5'7 140lbs and she's 5'5 around the same weight and we have no issues getting it in and out our cars (Hyundai sonata and Honda HRV) I can't imagine having a carseat always in my car and having to bring an additional stroller when we go out.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->im 5'7 and have no issues with it.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We got so blessed with a Doona stroller/car seat gifted from a friend whose baby is too big for it. We also got a bassinet and crib. We also were gifted lots of second hand clothes and other items at the baby shower - we lucked out hardcore!!!!
r/NewParents • Is everyone on baby/parenting subs rich?!? ->Loved our Doona. Yes it lasts a year, and its heavy if you plan on carrying it around, but beyond lifting it in and out of the car there is no reason to carry it around, it's so easy for wheels to drop down and turn into a little stroller. We used it for out two kids and then I sold it so we felt it was very worth it.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We love our Doona! It’s one of the few baby items that I actually recommend to everyone. We bought it for travel but it became our everyday car seat/stroller. We were hesitant to buy it coz it’s very expensive, but one of those things that is just worth it. I saw some people commenting about the height. My husband and I are pretty tall (5’ 8” and 6’) and we have no problems with it
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Honestly surprised at how many people are upset by the height. I’m 5’7 and have zero issue. It’s extremely convenient when running errands, especially with ny toddler in tow. IMO the biggest downside is that it’s damn heavy, but since it doubles as a stroller, the only time I’m carrying it is into the house. All that said, we bought from a trusted secondhand source, so didn’t have the hefty price tag.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It was nice for appointments when my baby was a newborn but she started hating it around two months old. She cried and screamed every car ride but was fine when it was in stroller mode. She’s now a happy camper in the car after getting a new car seat (Nuna Rava). I wish I switched seats earlier.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I guess I'm going to be the odd one out but we travel with ours and love it for that. We actually just flew with it today. It's easy to get into an Uber, walk through the airport until security, take our baby and collapse it and it fits through the little TSA scanner, then pop it back up put baby back in and walk to the gate. When you get to your destination you still have a car seat and stroller to get to your final destination It's great for travel, but we would never use it as our main car seat or stroller
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Correct it does not need a base, it installs with just the shoulder and hip belts of a seatbelt There is one available though, so I do recommend that for anyone using this as a primary stroller/car seat.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We got the Doona and just bought an extra base! Since the stroller is also the car seat, whoever has baby would need both anyway.
r/Parenting • One baby, two cars often in use... ->Yes I love it. Super convenient- especially for travel
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We got gifted one and really like it. It is our on the go stroller
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I love it as a car seat, it’s great for travel/errands. We also have another stroller we use for walks and park trips though. Really depends on your lifestyle whether you’d get enough value from it.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We loved ours too! We flew so much with ours and it made travel so much easier! I miss it lol
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Absolutely loved it - was so sad when my son grew out of it. Several trips and flights - favorite thing ever!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I absolutely LOVED our Doona. If we ever have a second, we will 10000% shell out the money again. My son outgrew it a month or two before he hit 1.5. Yes it’s heavy, but it really only mattered when I was taking it in or out of the car. I never had to be one of those poor souls lugging around a bucket seat 🤣
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I didn’t get the Doona at first because I thought it was too small for a stroller and too heavy for a car seat. I used to joke about people pushing that tiny thing around like a real stroller. Well, I took a one-month trip back to my home country and ended up buying a second-hand one from a friend—just for the trip, or so I thought. Now? I haven’t touched my regular car seat + stroller combo since. The Doona goes *everywhere* with me. It’s hands-down the most convenient, easy-to-use baby item I own. I swear by it and totally regret not getting one sooner! And now that my daughter is *almost* outgrowing it, I’m already dreading the day we have to say goodbye to our Doona.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We loved ours! My husband is 6’2” and it’s was not his fave but it was manageable. We did not use it as our main stroller but used it as our car seat until he was 10 months old. It was so handy not to have to lug a car seat around—he slept in it in restaurants and we always had it in stroller mode.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It was only worth it when we traveled. Our baby outgrew it just over 3 months. It’s tiny
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Absolutely for me it is worth the convenience to pop it out and stroll around, and fold it up into my car or a booth at a restaurant. For the people who complain it is heavy, I will carry my baby if there is something I cannot stroll around for. An example, my friend lives in a 2nd floor apartment. For that I left the car seat in the car, and just carried my baby upstairs. There is really no other times the doona can't stroll with me everywhere. I will say that it does not roll on gravel or grass and for that you'd need to carry as well. I am a C-section mama and without the doona I could not have been able to do stuff. There is no way I could carry my baby in a normal carrier bc that's such a bulky thing on my arms. Whereas if I need to carry the baby on me she is tucked in wrapped close to my body in a natural position, not in big bulky carrier.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We live in the City and Doona has been awesome!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I LOVED ours, literally the best baby item we had. They really aren’t that heavy, my daughter used it until 10 months.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Ours was gifted but we never used it in the car 😅 we used it for walking around the city and if kiddo still fits when we travel by plane soon we’ll bring it and use as our car seat. We had grand aspirations that we’d be able to uber downtown and bring baby for date nights… yeah that didn’t happen for many reasons haha It was super convenient for small spaces/sidewalks, stopping for a quick bite to eat, and running errands. My kiddo grew pretty quickly and while still fits at 10mo, they’re much more comfortable in their full size stroller and convertible car seat. I think if we lived in huge city w/no car, it’d be worth it more than living in our small (everyone needs a car) city.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We have it and its been our primary stroller for 14 months now!! I don’t know what I’d do without it.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Its expensive and only lasts about a year until they outgrow it but I do recommend it. Its extremely convenient for normal errands in the car. Being able to just swing the entire car seat out of the car door and go was great during bad weather. We loved not messing around with getting a stroller from the trunk. We would use a bigger stroller with storage if we were out walking around all day. It doesn't have any storage and if you hang anything on the handle like 3rd party organizer bags it can easily flip. The wheels dont have suspension either so its not great on really rough surfaces. We tried using it for a couple short walks around neighborhood sidewalks and it wasn't ideal. It is on the short side but Im 6'2" and it was usable when fully extended. Again not my first choice for something like a full day at the zoo but kids shouldn't be in that car seat position that long anyway.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Yes! We use it for traveling and love it! But wouldn’t purchase it solely for everyday life
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I agree with that it is great for traveling but I didn’t like it as an every day car seat.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Way too heavy. Trust me and my 22 pound baby you do not wanna
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Absolutely love ours. I love it because you don’t have to transfer them from a car seat to a stroller if they’re sleeping. Just makes like so much easier. I wouldn’t say it’s the best stroller but for short distances it’s great.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I LOVED it. We live in a very dense city and didn’t have a car when my son was small. It was awesome for navigating tight spaces and for use on public transportation and Ubers. I wouldn’t recommend it for a more suburban lifestyle.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->This price tag for something that only lasts *maybe* a year is a dealbreaker for me. When I was pregnant and when my baby was a newborn, it felt like so many baby gear things would get so much use, they'd be worth the investment! As adults we get used to our nice things lasting a while but we don't realize we're used to that meaning multiple years. My baby is 16mos now and from the other side... it's the blink of an eye. We used our infant carseat til 11mos and it was still pristine. We absolutely *loved* our Chicco KeyFit30. Relatively inexpensive, and gets top ratings from Consumer Reports. CR rates KeyFit at 90. The only infant seat rated higher is the Clek Liing at 91, which is more than double the price of the KeyFit. Doona scored a 67. My mom lets me borrow her paid CR subscription login😉 To be clear, this is NOT based on the official crash testing that certifies seats - those numbers don't get released, just pass/fail. CR does their own crash testing, which is part of the score, but fit-to-vehicle, weight, and ease of use also contribute to the score. Infants really shouldn't spend time in their carseats outside of the car. It's okay for brief trips just to run into the store with them in the bucket seat in the cart or whatever, but it's better not to. So that'll be an issue with travel systems that the seat clicks into a stroller, as well.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I also used to love mine. So convenient!!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Same! We used it as a stroller for around the block. Used it to run errands and for all those doctor visits in the first year. Brought it on a plane to NYC and on the subways. I honestly loved it and loved not having to take my kid out of the car seat and put them into something else if we were going somewhere.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We have it and it is pretty useful. The stroller isn’t great for long walks because the wheels are really hard rubber so you feel all the bumps, also it’s pretty short. But it’s great for trips to the grocery store or to a restaurant or something.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->The Doona has been perfect for my husband’s car and stroller. It is heavy, but it’s so convenient for traveling and needing a compact stroller for restaurants etc.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We do so much travel so this and the Nanit are top items for us. Critical for travel!!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Ours is so convenient for my small car (don’t HAVE to carry an extra stroller in it) but the doona is so heavy that I basically just leave it in the car as much as possible so I don’t have to carry it up and down our apartment stairs. I’m 5’2”, and the doona is pretty low to the ground but my 6’3” hubby doesn’t complain. I also don’t love the idea of my babe being in a car seat for super long so I have a Mompush bassinet stroller. But for quick trips like the doctors office and the convenience of not HAVING to pack an extra stroller (even though I do) it’s nice. My dad gifted us the doona. Otherwise I probably would have started with a Nuna or convertible car seat.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It’s such a game changer. Easily one of my favorite baby purchases because of this exact reason.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Great for travel, especially road trips so we don’t have to bring a stroller. Terrible for day to day especially because there’s no storage which I have gotten very used to with out regular stroller
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I have one and I love it. I don’t find it too heavy, but I imagine all of that is very individual. I also bought mine secondhand and paid less than half price, so that may color my perception!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->we find it super convenient, it’s easier for us to load the baby outside the car, and then move the entire seat inside. Makes it great for doctors appointments. That being said, I don’t see it as a replacement for an actual stroller. It’s great for what we need to get from car to location, but we prefer an actual stroller for longer walks
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Yeah, I was kinda shocked to hear all the hate. We’re 5’10” and 5’5”. I never would have thought it was heavy. I’ve had to carry other car seats that are bulkier and those seemed just as heavy, more awkward to carry due to being larger, and didn’t have the option to transform into a stroller. Our was great on a vacation we flew - able to go through the airport and security with it so easily. We have a dog that requires lots of walks, so before our LO was big enough for our Bob, the doona was perfect for going around the block. Definitely not the best stroller for anything like a hiking trail or uneven pavement (even sidewalk cracks can jostle the carriage pretty good) but for what it is, it’s incredible. Going out to dinner, running errands (it fits inside a Costco shopping cart), walking around the zoo - we loved it. Our daughter also didn’t want to be in the car seat for the first few months unless the car was moving, so one of us carries her and we can put our personal belongings/diaper bag in the stroller if we’re out with her.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I came here to say similar. If you want to travel with your LO in the first year it’s a life saver. You can still do ride shares and great for the airplane/airport. We also used it as our primary stroller at home for about 9 months. He didn’t technically outgrow it but as others have said the doona + our child’s weight became too heavy to lift and maneuver on a daily basis around that time.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We got the Doona. But best of luck, stroller shopping is the worst.
r/pregnant • Best travel system (car seat + stroller) for newborns that folds easiest? ->Agreed. It’s very convenient for quick in and out errands. I will say it’s quite heavy, especially now that baby is 3 mos. Haven’t tried it on a plane.
r/beyondthebump • What do y’all think about the doona? ->I’m 5’0 and has a c section so an muscles took a while to recover. A year out we still love our doona. I get complaints that it’s heavy, however I’m almost always just using the stroller function. I very rarely carry it anywhere. I love it.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->How old is your baby? I have the doona and I wouldn’t buy it just for travel. It’s extremely heavy, low to the ground, and doesn’t have any storage. If you’re planning on significant walking, it’s not great. It’s really for running errands or getting from point a to b. If you already had it, it might make sense but I wouldn’t buy it now.
r/NewParents • Traveling for the first time with baby. Buy Doona? Or deal with stroller and car seat? ->I absolutely love our Doona for car travels. I take Uber pretty frequently and it’s just so easy for in and outs. I also traveled across the country and it was sooo handy in the airport! I found it heavy in the very beginning but I actually think I’ve gotten stronger since then because it’s easier for me to lift now. we were lucky enough to get ours for free so that is also a plus; we could never have afforded it with the hefty price tag
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We have been to five countries with our 2 year old, can confirm I have never been asked by any airline or uber or anything ever about my car seat. In general, people are just accommodating and happy to have kids in car seats or annoyed that you have to install and have way too much stuff. I would just get the car seat you are most interested in for everyday life. If you are traveling a lot, I’d consider a car seat dedicated for travel like the Doona or Cosco.
r/Buyingforbaby • UN certified car seats in the US ->We find it very convenient. Is it heavy? A bit but we don't have to go up and down stairs often. We only feel the weight of it when we get it on and off the car. At any other point, we just pop the wheels down and push.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We loved our Donna and got 19 months out of it before #1 grew out of it! Now w rate using it for #2! It was our only car seat and stroller as we didn’t have room for anything else in our small apartment in LA.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I flew solo with my kiddo at 5 months old cross country US (6.5 hours) and I used a Doona, it’s the car seat/stroller combo. It made the whole experience so incredibly easy. I flew Southwest Airlines and sat in the front row with the baby by the window seats (required for evacuation purposes). Now I’m going to be doing the trek again later this year with a nearly 3 year old and I’m dreading it. I wish they had doonas for toddlers 😂 They have travel car seats that are supposed to be very safe and easy to pack/carry so I’m going to be doing my homework on that.
r/Parenting • Do most parents not bring car seats on planes? ->Do a is awesome, so convenient, napping baby out of car and convert into stroller with ease is a lifesaver. They are perfectly safe. It passes US and every other country in the world,… so?! Bureaucracy possibly? Maybe they didn’t pay for the CE certification? It’s honestly the best stroller. We have 3 kids, and expecting a 4th,… I wish we had the Doona for the first two. I can’t praise it enough.
r/BabyBumps • Best stroller/car seat/combo ->I agree. I am Actually surprised how many people seemingly hate it. My husband and I are shorter 5’2” and 5’4” but we used it from 2mo til 16mo and it was heavier to lift into my CRV as my son was bigger (max 22-25lbs) but not back breaking as others make it out to be. I much prefer it to ceremony my baby on one arm in a car seat or having to assemble a stroller and carry more pieces in my trunk. The convenience was worth it for me. To each their own I suppose.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Loved it so much! Best baby purchase we made. Yes, it’s heavier but you don’t carry it, you roll it. Amazing for travel. And so compact that I could put baby in it, and then roll it around house with me as I finished getting ready. We did get a FB marketplace jogging stroller for when he got older - for like $20 and the combo of that for neighborhood or off road and doona for everything else in life was perfect. 10/10
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->So we have one for travel. I love it for trips bc I have one piece to handle instead of two (car seat and stroller), but I could never as it as my daily user. It’s way too low and I have to bend so far to comfort, give pacis, etc. and I’m only 5’4. It is heavy and bulky, and honestly feels flimsy compared to my Uppa which feels so sturdy. It’s worth it as an extra, but I wouldn’t have it be my only.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We use it for our first and currently using it for our second. We've also flown with it. It's heavy but it's also a stroller so you'll be pushing it mostly, but it's harder to carry up steps or in and out of your car. Despite what the company says, I've never been able to wheel it down the aisle of a plane but it fits in an airplane seat no problem. I'd say build quality is above the Graco/Chicco level, the wheels are rubber which makes it a smoother ride over plastic. It's overall less plasticky with solid mechanical parts. Works just as good after 3.5 years. It doesn't have a no-rethread harness but your kid will out grow it between 1 & 2 so you'll likely have to adjust it just once. Storage bags and cup holders are extra. It's pricey but it's both a car seat and a stroller. The handle is too low to the ground for some, I'm "5'8" and I hunch over a bit pushing it. It's got unique pros and cons and you gotta decide if the pros are worth it over a traditional car seat-stroller combo. I'd also look into the EvenfFlo Shyft because that one you can separate the car seat from the stroller legs.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Sooo Reddit hates the Doona but to be honest we loved it. But it may just work for our lifestyle more than others. Yes it is “short”, but we’re 5’4” and 5’9”, the height has never been an issue. And it is 17lbs, so it’s not light but it has wheels so it shouldn’t be carried for very long anyway. It fit into our lifestyle perfectly, we’re somewhat urban and busy parents. I just got an umbrella stroller for things like the zoo and aquarium, but otherwise the doona was great. Oh and it is the most perfectly amazing travel item. Flying is incredibly easy, it fits on the scanner at security and goes right back into being a stroller, then it can be a car seat on the plane, then the car seat in the car at your destination, then a stroller everywhere you go! It’s just great.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Yah exactly! It’s not a perfect stroller but it’s really awesome for everyday life and travel. Only downside is that my son grew out of it at 15 months. He’s still in it but another car seat is on the way, and I’m pretty bummed about it. We’re just lucky he was an independent walker early otherwise this would have been a bit tougher, but as it happened it was perfect timing since he wants to walk on his own anyway. But yah, I don’t understand the hate either. It probably just comes down to lifestyle, I could see scenarios where it’s not the best.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I cannot believe the Doona hate, I would buy it a hundred times over. It’s such a game changer and makes every errand so much easier with an infant, especially if you are a new mom. You can strap it in any car, take it through airports, dock it by your table if you’re out to dinner, etc. etc. I guess it’s heavy? But the convenience factor outweighs everything for me, even the height (I’m 5’10 and unbothered by it). Was an absolute game changer for us.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I have used it as my primary stroller since my son was born and love it. It has been super helpful for me and I don’t regret it for a second. I live in a city and don’t own a car so it is very conducive to my lifestyle. It’s much easier to navigate around places like city grocery stores with tiny aisles and the bus, and I was able to use it with ride shares as well (although I know use Uber car seat option now). I don’t think it is that heavy but I don’t know what to compare it to. Yes it’s a bit of a physical feat lifting it into some vehicles but I usually collapse it right by the car. Also, I AM five feet tall so the height is a plus for me. I have an UppaBaby Vista that was handed down to me. I have been using it more for long walks and excursions as my son as gotten bigger. I find it much harder to handle and it feels huge. So I am all in on the Dooma but it’s largely a lifestyle fit. Edit; and I traveled with it when he was 8 months old. Amazing in the airport and ideal because I was also renting a car at the location. But probably there are cheaper options if that’s the main draw unless you travel constantly.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I loved it for traveling. Also amazed a couple pilots when I was collapsing it at the gate for them to check. It was perfect because my trip involved car rentals, car shares and flying. That said it is pricey so if you could borrow one for travel that would be the way. It’s my every day stroller though.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I live in a city, and it’s perfect for using the subway, going up the elevator to our apartment, and zipping down the sidewalks. We also take Baby to lots of restaurants, museums, coffee shops etc with it and it’s perfect to tuck in next to us. The Doona has a good rating as a car seat, but not great. We don’t drive too frequently so I felt okay making that decision to sacrifice car seat safety for the convenience of the tiny stroller. We also have a used Uppa Vista, which we also love, buts it’s not as nimble.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->My sister in law has one and we used it for my son when I visited. He loved it and it was very convenient when he fell asleep in the car. He slept in it a lot during the trip. Yes, it's heavy to remove from the car with bub inside, but I really liked it. Unfortunately, I have a car seat and stroller already and I'm Australian, so the conversion rate was too expensive for me.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I’m a doona stan personally and I was so on the fence about it until we had our baby. You can’t beat the convenience IMO. Yes it’s heavy, but you only have to carry it in and out of the car and once you pop the wheels out, you’re good to go. You don’t have to lug a carrier on your arm everywhere you go. Yeah it doesn’t have storage but neither does any other car seat, this one is just able to extend out into a “stroller” but it’s really just a car seat on wheels. You want to go out to eat? Baby is right there at the table chilling in the car seat ar booth/chair level, you can run errands quickly, it’s just easy to push that little thing around. We have an uppababy Cruz for our main stroller which we love but is quite cumbersome/bulky compared to the doona and we travel a good bit, and will be taking our LO on her first flight at 6 months and will be doing a lot of walking on our trip and are so thankful to have it. But that’s just us!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->No, that thing is a monster. Add a kid, and you have like 40 lbs to carry with one arm twisted. It's also more manual than you'd hope. Lasts a year max if you don't have a large bebe. But! If your back is 100% super duper and you're incredibly fit and under 5'2"ish, it works great!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Personally, I LOVED my Doona. It was extremely convenient for daily errands and Dr appts, especially if my husband wasn’t with me. I wasn’t as strong as I am now bc I didn’t start building muscle after we stopped using the doona but I was able to lift the doona fine. At first yes, it took some getting use to and it did get heavier as my soon got bigger but I did also get strong just from lifting the doona and I wouldn’t say it was a struggle and weighed out not wanting to use it even in the future. We used the doona til my son was too tall for it, maybe til he was about 16 months. They say whichever comes first, the wt or the ht based off what the manufacturer says. The only con I didn’t like was no storage space for small shopping trips but I did get some hooks that Velcro around the handle and it held the hand baskets in stores. I curbside large grocery trips anyways. This just allowed me to get out and stroll in a store and get small items if I even did! We also took the doona on the plane when my son was 15 months old and it was amazing to put in his own seat and then use in the Ubers. I loved the combo aspect of the stroller and car seat. I know other options have come out since with the same concept & I’m sure they are great too! I can only vouch for the doona and I will definitely be holding onto it for a possible future baby #2! Edit: I’m also 5’1, had a c-section, & at the time I weighed 97 lbs (EBF was keeping very lean, not my preferred but I still was able to maneuver the doona fine!) You truly only pick it up to go in and out of the car and it’s not that difficult if you watch the videos & make sure you’re picking it up and collapsing it in a way that isn’t hurting your back, etc. The doona weighs 15 lbs without baby, just for an idea! I think it’s also way less awkward than a normal car seat as far as carrying it!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I immediately got one (secondhand) for my infant after a single day of trying to carry a newborn in a car seat to pre-k drop off for my oldest. If you’re in a similar scenario, I’d highly recommend. It’s also handy for quick pop in to the store, when you don’t need/want a full stroller or baby wearing. I never ever carry it, it’s heavy AF.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I was skeptical because I’m 5’11 and knew I would be having a 2nd c-section but I decided to give it a try because I found it at a steep discount during the Nordstrom Sale and I absolutely love it! I was able to load it in the car pretty easily post c-section and it’s super handy especially with having a toddler to herd as well. My only complaint is that it takes up a ton of room in a shopping cart but in reality, my previous infant carrier took up most of the cart as well.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->This! A friend of ours gave it to us after her son grew out of it and I was pumped. I hurt my back loading it into our car multiple times and truly don’t think it’s a convenient as other options. It’s not durable enough for long walks, can’t handle snow or mud, and it’s so heavy. If I had paid for it I would have been so disappointed.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It is 1000% worth the hype. I don’t find it heavy like people always say here, and I’m not very strong. It’s so easy to use. I bought one for a trip across the country, have used it on the plane and in the cars here. It’s such an easy set up and go. My child is 90th percentile (in 12 month clothes at 6.5 months) and my weak butt is still able to get her in and out of the car and airplane. It has a tiny bit of trouble with bigger bumps, but it’s not half as bad as people describe here and it’s perfect for the airport. I love it, and I wish I got it sooner. I might have felt more compelled to travel earlier.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Best thing ever specially for travel! Couldn’t have do t it without it. I actually went through security wearing my baby on carrier and then plopped baby in doona after that
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Not the odd one out… everyone I know who has one loves it. We use it as our main car seat and love how incredible it is for travel. I traveled with baby by myself recently and it was so convenient to just have him in the Doona until I gate checked it, and then picked it up again once we landed. Didn’t have to get another car seat or stroller on our trip. I’m not really sure why people complain about it being heavy, unless you are walking up and down stairs often with your baby in the car seat? I rarely have to do anything but lift baby in and out of the car, and then it becomes a stroller so I don’t have to carry it anymore.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We use one for travel only. It is indeed super heavy like many have pointed out. But very convenient to fold, make into car seat to take cabs, take to restaurants as it is more compact than traditional strollers. We do use a traditional stroller and car seat when not traveling out of our home
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It’s really not that heavy! I don’t find it a lot heavier than a regular car seat and you’re also only really lifting it out of the car/ putting it in so it’s really just for a few seconds. Unless you live in a no elevator more than 3 story walk up in NYC then maybe I wouldn’t recommend lol but its great for suburbia life!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We love ours. I’m 5’10” and don’t feel it’s too short. My wife is 5’4”. We’re both pretty fit, so the weight isn’t much of an issue. I guess I never realized that the Doona is heavy compared to others. Plus you essentially never have to carry it, other than lifting it into and out of the car. All other times it’s on wheels. The convenience is what makes it worth it though. We get so many people asking about it every single day. It makes running errands, going to the doctor etc. a breeze. We’ll be using it for our next couple baby’s as well.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I’ve been in the childcare industry for several years and when the Doona first came out I thought it was stupid and a complete rip off. I couldn’t wrap my head around why anyone would spend $500 on an infant car seat when they are in it for such a short period of time. Working in this field you are exposed to all different types of baby gear and quickly learn that 80% of it is useless. While the Doona is definitely pricey & heavy I’ve changed my tune on it. I absolutely love it now! The baby I currently Nanny for has this car seat and it’s super easy to install into my car with the seat belt. It makes running errands a complete breeze because you just take the car seat out and go vs having to assembly a travel system each time. The Doona definitely isn’t light especially with a heavier baby but the thing is you’re never carrying it for long anyways, you just pop out the wheels. I went from thinking it was a silly waste of money to definitely getting one for when I have my own kids.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We had the Doona and it’s one of our top 5 baby items. Incredibly convenient for quick car rides/errands and the best baby product for travel. Literally no cons except that our 99th percentile baby grew out of it around 12-13mo. I am SO sad that we can no longer use it.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Agreed. The best thing for travel. Being able to pop it in an uber, car rental, whatever throughout our trip was amazing. Future trips will be much more complicated!!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Most people at the pediatrician have it. We picked it up and love it. A bit heavy but still worth it. Not great for outside strolling unless it's smooth. Mainly for inside, like dr visits or target etc
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It’s great for travel! Yes, it’s heavy and short, but the convenience of not having to bring a car seat and stroller separately is so nice. Will be sad when my baby outgrows it. Definitely not good as a main stroller though.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->One of the best baby purchases we made!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I agree, like I would have paid even more for it just for the convenience it brought me for travel and quick day trips. It’s just so amazing. I recommend it to all new parents I know. We were also super lucky that my daughter didn’t outgrow it until 18 months so we got a lot of use out of it.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Yup, an absolute game changer. We traveled for a month in Europe when our kid was 10 months old and the doona made it SO easy and convenient. 10/10 for travel!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Personally, I absolutely love the Doona. It’s made our lives so much easier. We do not use it as our main stroller — as others have mentioned, it’s pretty short/small and doesn’t have storage underneath. But aside from it making travel a breeze, it’s great when you’re popping out quickly to go to a pediatricians office, run an errand, etc. it is so so so convenient. I dread the day I have to take our baby out of her car seat and put her in a stroller just to go to a store for 10 minutes! Not sure why others talk about it being so heavy — aside from physically putting into the car, I’m never carrying it like a car seat. I pop it up to the stroller setting right away.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I didn’t get it with my first when living in a big city. Got it for my second living in suburbs and we love it - very easy for travel like others mentioned and it’s great when taking the younger one places like picking up bigger one in school. It isn’t light like others mentioned and I couldn’t use it myself post c section but my son is 10 months now and it’s great for doctor visits and going places and travel. Strength training post partum program via app helps lol
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I have a deep hatred for the Doona. It's dangerously misused. For babies under 3 months, it is ill-advised for them to stay in a car seat longer than 30 minutes though it can stretch for two hours. *For literally everyone else, infants and adults*, you are not supposed to sit in the car/be buckled into a seat for more than two hours at a time. This car seat is great for plane travel, popping into the gas station, or a grocery run that takes less than 20 minutes (when the drive was also short). It is NOT good for museums, outings, walks around town, big grocery trips or most of the things people in these comments are using it for. These comments show me they've never spoken with a CPST about it (which is infuriating on another level.) Not only does sitting in the car seat too long do damage to the spine and hips, the risk/chance of blood clots goes up and that is very dangerous. Adults too, on the blood clots part. [This is what we got. The car seat *can* click into the stroller when needed, like a quick trip in the grocery store. But the stroller reclines to become a flat surface with a 5 point harness that is safe to use from day one. ](https://a.co/d/3eoOD9c) OP, also know that using a car seat anywhere that's not properly installed puts the baby at risk for positional asphyxiation- on the floor or couch at home, in a shopping cart, etc. And the shopping carts that have the bucket looking car seat attachments aren't safe either. They aren't produced by a specific manufacturer so they aren't safe for any particular seat. It's just not safe and there's no clearer way to state that.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Oh my god I didn't know it could lay flat until 4 months PP and I was livid at all that time I left her in the car seat unnecessarily. The way it would have changed my life for naps 😭
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It is heavy, but I loveeeeee my Doona so much. The overall convenience is so so worth the few seconds of lifting for me. And I’m an extra small petite lady. It’s not that bad.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We can’t live without it, and I recommend it to every new parent I know. Even if you don’t travel a lot, it’s still incredibly helpful to have a car seat that doubles as a stroller for most daily activities..
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It’s also a bad car seat for safety.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->While the structural integrity of the Doona is really good, it scores significantly higher on the gforce test as well as the head impact/injury collision score. Both of these tests have metrics where the lower score is better indicating that your baby is affected less by impact. Less g-forces means that there’s less force transferred to your baby and obviously less head impact transfer means less likely that there’s less likely to be traumatic head injury in the event of a crash. Basically a Doona is like a big shell with not much but your baby to absorb the shock and kinetic energy applied to it. Better made car seats will take the impact and energy and either spread it around or diffuse the impact with better and/or more suitable materials.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->The **Federal government testing** doesn’t release findings, just pass/fail with fails not being able to be sold. There are multiple independent studies ([here’s an example](https://www.babygearlab.com/reviews/vehicle-safety/infant-car-seat/doona)) that corroborate this, but perhaps the most damning evidence is that sale of the Doona is illegal in Canada as it doesn’t meet the safety requirements.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->We LOVED ours. It made traveling so much easier especially if it is just me. (We also used it to fly - it can buckle in any car) By no means am I super strong, I’m a runner and lean so while getting it in and out of my car wasn’t the easiest task, it was doable and worth being able to pop out the wheels as a stroller in 1 second. I remember reading people complain if they are tall - my husband is over 6’ and didn’t find it annoying. We went to a speciality store to try it out first, so if you want to check the weight and ability to convert it, maybe go there? We do have the uppababy ridge for active walks and runs.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I am 5’6” and primarily used it. Partner is away for work a lot so I had lots of solo errand running w baby. I LOVED it. She is 14mo and we still use it but I finally just got a seat that will transition w her for many more years. Now we use the Doona in my partner’s car. He loves it too.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->You’re only lifting it for a couple seconds vs. carrying an infant seat. I would not say it is heavy unless you have an ailment or injury, but that would make carrying any seat difficult 🤷🏻♀️
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->My husband has this in his car and to be honest, I was never able to use it by myself: it is too heavy with the baby in it. But it was very easy in the first 6 months for doctors appointments and such. I just saw a Doona at Tj maxx yesterday for $399.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I borrowed one from a friend for an out of town wedding. It was super convenient for travel and using a Lyft, but I wouldn’t use it as my main stroller/car seat. People must be referring to it being heavy when carrying it in car seat mode, because it is lightweight like a travel stroller. You can’t hang anything on it and there’s no storage built in. Walking around, we hit an uneven bit of pavement and it would have tipped over if I hadn’t had a good grip on it. As with so many things, everything is a personal preference kinda thing. One of my sisters uses a travel stroller as her main stroller because she only uses it when out and about. I’m a walker - baby and I have been outside for a walk with the dog practically every day for the past 8 months. I love our UppaBaby Vista because it’s sturdy, has storage, and is adaptable. We used the bassinet until he was big enough to be in the infant insert. I’m pretty sure we only used the car seat into stroller feature in the early days for doctors visits.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Why? We used it as a main stroller, traveled with it halfway across the world, no issues at all besides the weight
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I’m 5’10” and my sweet babe is 9 months and 25 pounds (big girl) and we still love it! It’s sooo convenient for doctors visits, grocery stores, in and out of daycare etc. I don’t use it for long walks both because the shape isn’t ideal for babe and because it’s a tad too short to be comfortable for me. We are close to switching out, so it really is expensive to only last 10-12 months, but it has been incredibly worth it for us! I wouldn’t say I’m especially strong either and I can lift it fairly easily into the car myself.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Absolutely loved it while baby was small enough for it (outgrew it at 14 months). Not sure why everyone is saying about how heavy it is. Yes, heavier than a regular infant car seat/carrier, but that’s because it’s a stroller. If I wasn’t using it as a car seat, it was in the stroller position (ie, rarely was I just carrying it). And yes the handlebars are short, but I’m used to that with any stroller as I’m 6feet tall! I was able to navigate through airport security by myself (with baby) no problem. Did not feel cumbersome when I had it in the case and wore it as a backpack getting off the jet bridge. Very easy to install with the base attachment and without. It has come in handy so so much.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Doona was one of the BEST THINGS we bought ever! I am 5 ft tall and hubby is 6 feet 1. We both have no issues. We have been using it since newborn leaving the hospital and just used it to go out for a quick dinner date in nyc with our 15 months old in it. Sadly going to grow out of it like next week or two but seriously hands down the best thing ever. We have traveled with it both domestic and international flights. Easy to run errands. Uber. Nyc. You name it. We are on the go. Too bad I can no longer use it but we loved it so much that we bought the doona trike lol It really worth the hype. Parenting made easy as they say…..Good luck!!
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Doona has been top purchase for us. I’d say compared to the other stroller/car seat we have (even flo) it’s heavy, but significantly more convenient. We use the evenflo for longer walks, but for car travel, plane travel, convenience sake, it cannot be beat. (Wife agrees - average sized woman and she still can lift it in/out of outlander SUV).
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->The thing is that you never have to carry it though bc of the stroller function. I was really worried about that but literally just have to lift it from the ground to the car and it’s no big deal.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It’s legitimately one of our top purchases. Great for everyday errands and around town, plus it means my wife and I can split daycare drop off and pickup very easily. Yes, it’s a little heavier than other carseats, but you literally only lift it in and out of the car and then roll it everywhere else. IMO, that’s easier on the arms than constantly carrying the carseat or infant. My wife and I are both pretty average sized though. We know a couple where mom is 5’ and dad is 6’ 6” and it didn’t really work for either of them (too heavy and too short) so ymmv.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I absolutely loved it for my first! We traveled around the world and it made everything from airports to taxis so easy.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->Absolutely loved it. Used it for many plane trips and it was my carseat so I could pop in and out of places quickly when it was just me and the babe. It's short but my husband had no issues with it. It's also heavy but I had absolutely no problem lifting it myself. We were able to use it for longer than a year and I was so sad when we outgrew it. I've seen a slightly more affordable version at Target.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I used it as my main carseat because I was often out and about alone with baby but it wasn't our only seat/stroller
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I see a lot of hate in the thread for it being low and heavy. I’m 5’2” and maybe slightly above average strength for a female? Idk, I don’t do much to develop my strength, but I had no issues with our Doona. I kind of panic bought ours before I was doing solo flights with our LO when she was 3 months. We used it until she reached 18 months and I think ~25lbs? It got heavier towards the end, but still manageable. We really only moved away from it when we did because she started to look squeezed and she loved to walk when we were out. 5’10” husband used our Doona frequently as well. He did complain about the height occasionally, but still remarked on the convenience factor and that “We are definitely keeping this for our next kid”
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->I used to for a while when I visited my family in California. It really depends on your lifestyle but I personally did not like it. As a car seat, it’s okay I guess, but I don’t think my girl was that comfortable in it. It’s also fairly bulky so be sure to do a test fit. It can also be tricky getting it out of a tight parking spot. As a stroller I would say it’s extremely limited. As another poster mentioned, it’s very short. It also has no storage and no suspension, so it’s only good for short trips on smooth terrain. I would never get it myself as we usually walk around the city and only use the car occasionally. Even if we used the car regularly, like I said it’s not great over rough terrain, so I wouldn’t take it to the park, or city etc. I guess there’s a niche if it was your second car seat for your other car.
r/NewParents • Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype? ->It’s important to remember that the biggest risk of being in a car seat comes when the car seat is not clicked into a base, strapped into a car properly, or clicked into a travel system. Babies were (are) dying in car seats because parents are bringing the car seat inside and setting it on the floor or couch and letting baby finish their nap at an improper angle different than the angle the seat is at when in the car or stroller. I sort of hate how we have vilified the travel system in a way. Causing new moms to think they have to buy a stroller with bassinet attachment and can’t take their baby to target unless they take them out of the car seat and baby wear. I am ALWAYS a big advocate of car seat and infant safety. So like, don’t put the car seat in the shopping cart. But you can very safely take your infant in a Doona or travel system for a relaxing trip to target or a park.
r/BabyBumps • Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller ->I think it depends where you live. City? Suburbs? Country? Do you have a walk up? Elevator? No stairs? Attached garage? Detached garage!l? When I went to the baby store, I almost got a uppa baby vista but I found out due to living set up(a house with a walk up), the store worker recommended a Bugaboo dragonfly would be better since I have to walk up some stairs and it folds in half so I can carry it up the stairs with ease. The importance of being able to pop open and fold my stroller with one hand is important. It’s a great city stroller and great with bumpy sidewalks. I have another stroller for my car (a Cybex) that my mom got from a sale. I’m so glad that I have a stroller that stays in the car so I don’t have to think about transferring my stroller in and out especially with having stairs. It’s a nice stroller but doesn’t fold and open as easy as my Bugaboo, but it’s only for when I go places with the car. I just say get a stroller that fits your needs. Now with that being said, I only used Doona for the first 3-4 months. He phased out of the Doona SO quickly. Then my baby started CRYING and fussing in it so I had to upgrade NUNA Rava car seat and he loves it. BUT, that Doona was so convenient with transferring my newborn in and out of the car and carrying him down my stairs to take him on a walk. It saves so much time. You can’t beat a 2 in 1.l car seat/stroller. The Doona is worth it but you might not have it that long (every baby is different). I think there is a new Doona version where you can recline it. The person at the baby store told me to be careful when get a used car seat from someone especially if they have been in an accident. The car seat might not be effective or good. I would talk to your coworker about it or just be safe and get a new one. Edits: grammar and added content
r/Mommit • What stroller (or other big ticket item) did you prefer and why? ->
