Stroller was such a lifesaver on our first airplane trip that we now have a compact folding travel stroller specifically to make traveling and airports easier. Some times that you may want to just contain the toddler and not have to freaking worry about them toddling off: -TSA/security. I babywear through TSA, but the second my stroller is cleared, baby is in the stroller so I can get the rest of our carry ons (and deal with the liquids testing for milk) more easily. -bathrooms. Way easier to deal with diapers and diaper bags and changes and *having a chance to go yourself* if nobody is making a break for it. -when the gate swarm starts forming. Lot easier to just contain toddler and avoid them getting squished or smacked by Karen's definitely-too-big carry on. -Waiting for checked luggage. I can stand with the stroller and carry ons and my husband can grab the checked bags (which never come up together) and kinda toss-roll them towards me. I can have both hands to catch it and get everything situated.
We also (now) have their ready to jet, if a travel stroller that works with the Graco travel system family winds up being important to you. Also 10/10.
It works with their infant bucket seats! I've seen it on display at a few targets if you wanted to see it in person. Just an option!
Mines walking, but we still use our stroller daily. We have a Graco Modes pramette and a Graco ready2jet. The modes one is nicer, good for long walks and park outings, etc. The ready2jet is good for flying (it fits in Delta and American airlines overhead bins!) and just quick errands, cause it fits in the car better. If you have a big car, then a double would probably be a good idea, but if space in a limited commodity in your car, I'd hold off getting something giant until you need it. Plus strollers have a limited lifespan, I know my best friend had to replace theirs between #2 and #3, just cause the frame was giving out from the beatings #1 and #2 subjected that poor stroller to.
I have the Graco one, it folds one handed fine. It's not one of the fun like, self folding ones, but it's pretty easy. Fits in the overhead just fine too.
Seconding Graco! Specifically the ready2jet stroller lives in our car and doesn’t take up too much space.
I just unpacked my Ready2Jet and it seems like a great stroller. It’s about 4 lbs lighter than my old stroller and the handle is great for tall people.
We just traveled with my 90th percentile (height/weight/head) 11 month old. We got the graco ready2jet from Costco and it did really well for us. We now use it when trunk space is limited or it’ll be tight where ever we are going.
Graco snugride (or any graco car seat) and the graco ready2jet. Car seat snaps into stroller w no attachments, stroller folds up small and light, and when baby gets bigger the stroller can be used as a toddler stroller. Also comes with a cup holder. For a diaper bag, either a tote with pouches or a backpack with NO flap over top— you want to be able to open and shut it one handed
We bought a travel specific stroller and car seat so that our nicer everyday ones didn’t get damaged. We went with the Graco Ready2Jet for a stroller because it’s lightweight and compact, not my favorite stroller but does just fine for travel and a good price point, we got ours thru Costco. And then we went with the Safety1st seat for travel, I think they call it the Everfit now. It’s about $100 from Sam’s club or Walmart. It doesn’t have the highest rear facing limits, but again it’s just our air travel seat and it works great for that. We always gate check the stroller and then load it with all of our stuff thru the airport, and typically gate check the car seat but with how big my LO is (34”, 30 lb at 14mo so right there with you), we’ll probably start getting him his own seat for the car seat.
The Graco Ready to Jet is a nice budget stroller. It's much flimsier than the Minu though and doesn't fold or push nearly as nicely. If you don't need the Minu for flying it's a great choice for basic getting around town. I will say that the two in store we tried were both busted so I would be worried about longevity. But for $75 who cares about it breaking.
Definitely make sure it's a travel stroller, not a full size one. At one point we thought about just bringing our normal full size uppababy stroller with us - that would've been a disaster. We were gifted a Graco Ready2Jet Compact Stroller, and it was really nice! I like that you can fold or open it with one hand. It is small enough to store in the overhead storage, which a few airlines did allow us to do - but most wanted us to check it at the gate. One of our stops was actually Italy, so if you're going there, hope your baby is ready for attention, they love babies there. One last thing, make sure you buy a stroller gate check bag. It'll help your stroller from getting dirty in the cargo area.
We got the Mockingbird and got the adapter for a Graco carrier seat. I love it, it allows for a second seat attachment. THAT BEING SAID… eventually I said “eff it” and got the Graco jet set light weight stroller because the normal strollers are HEAVY. I regret getting rid of my Graco Modes because it was not only cheaper, but way more light weight than the bougie brands.
We also just got this and love it!
