If you have the aria car seat, would you consider a used UB Minu stroller? It might fit overhead but also can gate check. I have the minu duo with the bag and the bag is pretty solid. Also gate checking the doona, if you plan to also use it as a car seat, runs a risk of damage to the doona which could impact the safety of the seat.
I have the uppababy minu duo and I’ve been using it since my 8 week olds were born. We love it. It’s definitely not as nice and cozy as a double bassinet would have been, but our girls don’t seem to mind. We strap them in with the harness and wrap blankets around them. They both love it and happily nap in there when we go on walks. There’s good storage space under the seats. It’s got great control and steering. It folds up nicely and isn’t too bulky or heavy when we get it in and out of the car. It’s fit through all doorways we’ve gone through. I’d recommend it!
I ended up using my bugaboo butterfly basically exclusively with my first. As long as the sidewalks were ploughed I had no issue in the snow. I mean, it’s not a rockstar in the snow but man do I love that stroller, so much so that I never bothered to pull out the clunky city select handmedown for snowy walks. I wishhhh they had a tandem travel double! I just bought the minu duo and it is just not the same calibre 😫.
I’m using it now for my littles and it’s working well. Pros- prefer the side by side design, easy to collapse, light weight, fairly compact for a double, and fits through doors. I can also keep an eye on them through the overhead “window” since they aren’t facing me. Been using it since they were about a month old. Cons- if you have the stupid car seat adaptors on you can’t collapse the stroller. I did not notice this when I was purchasing it and it made me mad when I realized it as it ruined one of my “systems” I had planned. More cons- wheels are small and sit low to the ground which can make some walks trickier if I have to jump a curb or something. Under stroller space is also quite limited compared to the Cruz we also have. Overall it’s a great stroller and I don’t regret it. Does have limitations but I assume all strollers do
The Minu Duo is way easier for two kids, but those small wheels might struggle if there’s snow. the Cruz v2 has bigger wheels, so it’ll probably do better in that. But then you’ve got to deal with one kid walking or in a carrier, which can be a pain... If you’re worried about getting tired, think about how much walking you’ll be doing. I saw someone mention borncritic for stroller reviews; they have good info on which ones work best in different situations.
A little late to the party. I happened to stumbled upon this post in a separate Google search. For context, I have two kids under 3 years old. I previously bought a used 2019 Valco baby snap duo trend (SDT), and ended up with a Uppababy Minu Duo after using my sister's during a disney trip. In my opnion, if Bugaboo created a side by side version of the butterfly, I would get that in a heartbeat. We used a bugaboo butterfly with our oldest for the longest time and I have no cons for it. I love that stroller. Some pros for the Valco baby: 1. The overhead covers on the SDT was expansive. Really felt like it covered our boys well and was comfortable solely using the covering for their naps on the go. 2. Basket felt slightly larger 3. The seats feel slightly wider 4. The belly bars come with the stroller saving some costs Cons for Valco baby: 1. Really not a big fan of the belt clips. You have to hook side belt to the top click and then click in. I never got the hang of it 2. Adjusting the seat was frustrating to deal with at times Pros for uppababy: 1. Seat clips are better than the SDT, but not as great as the bugaboo butterfly. Manageable though 2. Fabric feels great, felt better than SDT 3. Adjusting incline of the seat is much easier to use 4. Adjusting the shoulder height of the belt is easier 5. Lock and go mechanism doesn't dirty your shoes ;) Cons: 1. Seats feel slightly narrower 2. Overhead cover not as expansive 3. Need to purchase a lot of accessories (if desired). We don't really use a belly bar, so not really a con for us to just want to call this out It's possible my SDT was slightly defective, and the fact I'm comparing a used/older SDT to a new minu duo isn't totally fair. However, from what I understand, I don't believe much of the model has changed from 2019 to now for the SDT. I sold the SDT and paid an extra $200 to purchase the minu duo. I felt like it was worth it. We really enjoy our minu duo trend. Hope this helps in your decision making. Feel free to DM if you have any further questions.
This is a good city stroller (I’m in NYC) or a “walking around my neighborhood stroller”. It is not a good stroller if you drive everywhere and want to be able to transport babies by clicking-in car seats. I used it from 1.5 months onward, when we got home from the hospital.
I feel like this is kind of what the Minu Duo was made for! Lightweight and relatively narrow for a double (just under 28" - only 2" wider than the Vista, and the same weight as the Vista!), folds with one hand, can handle both ages well with deep recline for naps
