I just went from 2k UW (Acer x35) to an oled dual mode 32 inch 4k 16:9. Aspect ratio of UW is amazing but the sharper resolution of 4k is equally impressive. 4k UW is obviously the best of both worlds but for one the screen is huge, it's expensive, performance isn't great + refresh rate of the panel isn't the best. So I don't think you go wrong either way. 4k needs better hardware to drive although UW can also tank performance. Make sure you get something with good hdr implementation ... when it's done right, it totally transforms games, especially those single player titles.
I use Predator X35 which is VA, but I also have X34, I think X35 is way better than X34.
I have the Acer X35 (same panel as PG35VQ) and MSI MPG 341CQPX (same panel as the Alienware 3425DW that you mentioned). I miss the brightness of the X35. The HDR 1000 mode of pretty much any OLED is not even close to the amazing brightness of the X35. Having the FALD backlight makes a massive difference. It was jarring going from HDR 1000 of the X35 to True Black 400. The HDR 1000 mode of the MPG 341 CQPX almost feels gimmicky, so I use True Black 400 for most games. That being said, the pixel response time improvement and no VA smearing is worth the trade off. 200hz on the X35 had lots of smearing with specific color changes, and now I’m running 240hz with vastly improved clarity. TB400 still looks amazing and your eyes adjust to it. I will occasionally run things on the X35 for a taste of that old brightness, but yea it’s not worth it over the other improvements of the OLED.
Not sure this is 4k as mentioned. Not sure 34” 21:9 is next level gaming either. Had a Acer Predator x35 for few years that just went pop… and recently had to buy a new AW3425SW to replace it. I wanted the new 5k2k LG 45” OLED but wasn’t available. As I needed a new monitor for work immediately I had to go with AW3425DW. Considered the LG C5 (42/47”) but need at least 1 x display port. Maybe I will trade up to the 45” OLED LG when more widely available. 21:9 annoys me too a times for gaming. Not all games support it and even those that do have cut scenes which looks like a small box because of black bars on side and the top/bottom due to cut scene. Then watching films has black bars all the time on the side. Still think large 16:9 is best for gaming and overall IMO
I have a Samsung 49 inch it’s nice for what I do with it. I don’t game I also have 4 34 inch screens Samsung Asus x2 Acer Predator It really comes down to what you’re going to use them for My son loves the 49in for his starfield game. But he does mention that it tends to make him feel nauseous sometimes. My wife has a 34 inch middle and a 27 inch curved on each side for work. Check out the used ones since I just bought 2 34inch Asus for $150 for both
