This monitor definitely smears but other than that it’s pretty great for the price. I have mine on my sim racing rig now.

The Dell S3422DWG is always my suggestion for that price range. It’s only real issue is some ghosting. Other than that it’s a great monitor for the price. When I upgraded to the G8 I moved the Dell to my sim racing rig and it works awesome for that

What about the viewing angles? I had an S3422DWG from Dell as well and color and gamma shifts were obvious from almost any angle. Additionally, the panel had some serious VRR flicker. Black Smearing was also noticable in some games, e.g. Neon Abyss. Had to return it and got the LG 34GN850 instead because it had none of these issues apart from poor contrast. I am still looking to find an upgrade till this day...

Dell S3422DWG - i've seen them go on sale for $200 once in a blue moon, but $350 should be the average price point.

I had horrible smearing with the Dell. I even sent it back and the second one was even worse. I have read that lots of people dont have the same issues so I may just have had bad luck.

So the 5k ones are starting to roll out this year, but will need a top GPU to run them. I've been enjoying my Dell S3422DWG monitor for the last 3+ years. Has been a great and very sharp while also having nice dark levels at night. Just has one permanent dark pixel on the top right corner. ( they guarantied against no bright pixels :/ -still love it tho.

That actually is the set up that my 57 replaced. I had a Dell S3422DWG and 2x 23" samsung syncmaster displays from 2012 on either side, I dont miss the 3x displays when not gaming but when I am gaming full screen I do miss the extra displays for music and discord. Cant decided if I want to go up with the 2 displays or on the side. I think up is gonna be the way but that is to be determined.

Hey there, I’m using a 34-inch with a MacBook Pro M1 Max. It was definitely a bit strange to deal with all those problems in the beginning, because I never thought that it would be such a thing and that you need to consider so many things. BetterDisplay is the App that you’re looking for. It will help you with the HiDPi and the resolution issues since you can create your own resolutions and it will look much better than macOS would handle it. I think I’ve paid 20€ for it. There are no issues regarding text clarity or anything else. Before I upgraded to OLED (Gigabyte MO34WQC2) I’ve used a Dell S3422DWG. I use the monitor also for gaming since my PC is also connected to it. Oh and make sure how you connect the monitor to your Mac. There are some differences between HDMI and DP regarding Refresh Rate etc. Hope that helped.

Just got the M4 a couple weeks ago, I'm using a Dell S3422DWG (34" 3440 x 1440 144Hz) hooked up using a Displayport to TB USBC cable. Looks just as good as it did on my Windows machine. Your monitors running 4K at 32" has slightly higher PPI (~135 vs ~110, so about 20% difference). Which is not nothing, but not as huge of a gap as it is if you were switching from an Apple Retina display (200+ PPI). I think this resolution and size is just fine for the distance that I view from, IMO. The PPI on a 34" 3440 x 1440 is identical to the PPI on a 27" 2560 x 1440, so I would try to find somewhere to view it in person to see if it'd work for you.

Agree I had the predecessor, the S3422DWG and it was good I’d use it to code with a dark editor and it still didn’t bother me much after I got used to it. Better contrast and no glow was nice. I can imagine it being further refined, my only real complaint at the time was it could’ve gotten a little bit brighter SDR but running it in HDR worked fine for me. For $370 it’s impossible to complain or to justify another $230+ for IPS. I went for VA at the time bc I wasn’t paying $900+ for the LG ultra gears and glad I didn’t. In no world is it worth that price for a bit more brightness and better colors while having its own downsides as a technology.

I have a Dell 34"S3422. More pricey but I'm sure it's the same deal. And I agree unless you get super close to the monitor, the experience isn't all that great. My space is limited, so I use a swivel arm to move the monitor between my desk and my sim rig beside it when I race. https://preview.redd.it/5cu8e8umaijf1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05706c45363c661a8d3889b651e0fc1ce4b78e5b

I’ve had 2 VA panels. Dell S3220DWG and S3422DWG. The 32 suffered from flicker but the newer 34 ultrawide does not. And the 32 didn’t flicker if I limited the frames - generally it was because the vrr or alm would be displaying my <60fps game at 120 by double the frames but that’s cause the frames to dim and appear to flash. Something like that. If I put a limit at 100fps or 90fps it couldn’t double and didn’t flicker

I'm currently looking for something similar as well, I've got R7 7800X3D and 9070XT and I'm not sure if it can really handle 4K well, so I'm looking for a 34" 2k 144hz option, I'm averaging at 6-8h a day of IDE and another 4-6 hours of gaming, mainly ARPGs and competitive shooters. I really dislike the idea of buying a Mini LED, because I currently use Dell S3422DWG which is VA and it's not really good for something like Valorant and as I can see most Mini LEDs are VA, and also I cannot really justify buying OLED because of burn-in, and I haven't really found great IPS options as well so I guess I'll just have to wait for something that covers my use case.

I'm not a fan of the Asus as the overdrive setting had some really weird artifacts, especially on black backgrounds. I went with it's sister product the Dell S3422DWG. Ghosting is still there, but no overdrive effects. With regards to the samsung I had a C27HG70 27" 1440p monitor from then and am now having a weird issue where it has static when it turns on and needs to warm up. Rumor is that it is a manufacturing defect in the capacitors, and that it was just on older models, but for the prices they charge I didn't think it'd be worth risking it again. Also I'm not a fan of such a tight curvature. 1800R is just enough for me.

in my experience, using an M2 MacBook Air and a desktop PC both with my Dell S3422DWG (3440x1440), the Mac looks like shit. I've even tried using better display with the custom HiDPI resolutions you'll find numerous posts on, and it's still nowhere near as sharp as windows. it just is what it is, I suppose.

I use a Dell S3422DWG. Works well though not IPS. I guess the market is not there in terms of volume for these displays and companies will have to still cut thru the local B.S to certify and sell in low volumes. IPS will have even fewer options.

It took a couple of months of disappointment seeing how poor the availability of good SKUs was in the Indian market and silly and absurd pricing on what really mid-tier stuff in other markets. This unit was bought at a local Dell store vs. online after unboxing, checking for any damage/dead pixels, reboxed, paid for and then setup at home. I'd never suggest anyone buy these items online, not in our market.

Sorry this comment won’t answer the question but I’d like to recommend the monitor I personally have. The DELL s3422DWG. Not to be confused with the OLED model(S3423DWG). This model is 144hz instead of 240 but everything else seems to be similar to this monitor you posted. Its VA panel does have black on white smear, but it’s not bad compared to other budget VA panels I’ve used before. The colors are also very good. A lot better than a previous VA panel i had. Overall I’d recommend this monitor a million times over because it’s relatively cheap compared to how good it is as a VA panel.

I personally haven’t experienced the bad smearing, but not to say it isn’t there. Compared to my LG OLED it definitely has smearing, but I’ve had worse VA panels that were absolutely awful compared to my dell. Plus I got it for 289$ compared to a 700$ oled monitor not a lot of people would want to drop almost a grand on a monitor so that’s why I recommend the dell ultrawide.

Drop the HDR and you will be fine. Or switch to VA. I personally went VA and have no regrets. No black smearing since it’s 165hz and a good model. People really oversell the black smearing for some reason. Dell’s newest model 34” ultrawide is still VA…. Either that or go OLED! Which, really is an amazing technology as well.

I just received a dell 34” today. imo Side by side screens are still just as sufficient as 2 24” monitors. I also went to a micro center where they had a 40 inch on display, and it just felt like too much monitor. It’s 21:9 too, and quite lovely if I’m being honest, but 34 really feels like that sweet spot. As for a rec I’ll just say I did a bunch of research, and felt the best monitor for my needs was the dell u3425we. I was able to get one off eBay for a few hundred less than msrp. I considered the dell p3424we because it is cheaper, and it had comparable specs as the u34, but the u gives more ports and 120 Hz compared to 60 (among other things I’m sure). If those things aren’t super important to you then I think you could save some money by opting for the p34. No matter what you choose I recommend exploring the ‘open-box’ market for a good deal. Good luck!

I went from a Dell 34" UW to a Dell 49" UW and honestly the 49" is too wide for productivity. Now admittedly the curve on the Dell is not as aggressive as some of the Samsungs, but the edges of the screen are out of my field of view and require too much rotation of my neck to be useful to me. When I bought the monitor, I thought I was going to make greater use of the picture-by-picture feature to run a customer laptop and my work laptop at the same time but turns out that was not a scenario I really needed (most of my customer's would rather give me a VDI than send me a laptop). I like it for gaming, but I am considering moving to a 38 or 40" 21:9 monitor after tax season.

I do, I have a 34 inch, ultra wide monitor with max resolution of 3440x1440, just make sure the port you are going to use on the monitor's side supports the max refresh rate, for example my monitor only supports max refresh rate on its display port, so I bought a high speed usb C to display port cable and it worked flawlessly, just plug and play and my mac mini detected the desired resolution and max refresh rate out of the box, this is the cable I used in case you need one: https://www.amazon.com/-/es/gp/aw/d/B0C4DB8MLL?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Edit: I just realized my monitor is a dell too haha so we may even be talking about the same monitor.
