I just ordered U4924DW for that same reason. It will be my first ultrawide and I use it mostly for creative work, such as writing, layout, and video editing.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Ultrawide monitor for someone scared of burn in ->I used the Dell until last week. And tried the Samsung as well for a month before it. I would say Dell U4924DW is mostly great. Panel was consistent with no light bleeds. IPS black was amazing. USB-c connection always works and frankly it fit most of my requirements. After using a few months the only two drawbacks I see are - 60hz only, and not enough curvature. The odyssey G9 on the other hand, had the perfect curvature and the refresh rate. But it didn’t have any of the other features I liked on U4924DW which made it tough for working with my MBP. Also the panel had a lot of light bleeds, even after having it swapped. It’s like a lottery. The LG you have was on my list. It might be the best of both worlds on paper. If it was IPS black I would suggest in a heartbeat. Right now in the 3 you suggested for work I would recommend you try it maybe (though a little more curved would’ve been great) or the Dell if you are okay with 60Hz too. If 49” is not a hard requirement I would recommend a 38” or 40” Dell Ultrasharp as they are absolutely perfect for productivity
r/ultrawidemasterrace • ultrawide monitor 49" suggestions for work ->Go for Dell u4923 or LG 49wq95. Both are IPS. VA is trash for doing any work on that screen. The other posters here are clueless. Oled is also fit only for gaming.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Which 49-inch monitor is best for the Macbook Pro M1 Pro: the Samsung OLED G95SC or the LG 49WQ95C-W.AEU? ->My use case is similar to yours, I went with the Dell U4924DW and I’m fairly happy with it. I have my laptop, gaming pc (and C64) connected to it, and switch between them with kvm. But the curve is definitely not as strong as you would want. Also the 60 Hz refresh rate is a bit meh.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • UltraWide for Programming on a Mac and gaming on a PC? ->Similar boat, needed one mostly for work (sw dev), and for some casual gaming. I went with the Dell U4924DW, just arrived a week ago. I agree that it is not curved enough, but other than that I really like it. No complaints about image quality, and most importantly I don’t need to babysit it like an oled. Love the usb hub and the kvm, I have my work laptop, my gaming pc and my C64 all plugged in, and can switch between them easily. Love the little pop down usb hub in the front as well, very handy when you need to plug in some random crap. Probably my only complaint is that the audio out is for speakers only (line out), there's no headphone jack, so I have to plug my headphone in and out all the time when switching inputs.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Which 49 inch UW is best for business, emphasis is on text clarity. ->I went from a Dell 34" UW to a Dell 49" UW and honestly the 49" is too wide for productivity. Now admittedly the curve on the Dell is not as aggressive as some of the Samsungs, but the edges of the screen are out of my field of view and require too much rotation of my neck to be useful to me. When I bought the monitor, I thought I was going to make greater use of the picture-by-picture feature to run a customer laptop and my work laptop at the same time but turns out that was not a scenario I really needed (most of my customer's would rather give me a VDI than send me a laptop). I like it for gaming, but I am considering moving to a 38 or 40" 21:9 monitor after tax season.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best Ultrawide for Productivity? ->My Dell 49" does this, though it splits into 2 2560x1440p monitors. I've mostly used the feature to get the outputs from two different devices (work laptop and customer laptop, personal pc and xbox etcetera) but could drive it with one device (had considered this for work purposes as screen sharing a non UW monitor is easier, but instead stacked a 16x10 monitor on top)
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Super ultrawide that acts as two true monitors? ->M2 Mac mini pro with 49" Dell gaming monitor (way cheaper than two massively overpriced Apple monitors) is the best setup I've ever had. You will need menuwhere, though. https://manytricks.com/menuwhere/
r/macmini • Mac Mini with an ultrawide monitor? ->Hi, I don't know if this will help you but I use a 49“ ultrawide from Dell 5120x1440 at home and a Lenovo 40” with 5120 x 2160 at work. The text is not blurred on either of them. But i have to say, i also use the native resolution, so there is no scaling
r/MacOS • An ultrawide curved monitor suitable for a Mac – does this exist at all? ->I would try it yourself first before getting a new monitor. What it is is that Apple removed some sub pixel text antialiasing from macOS a few years ago, so monitors under a certain pixel density can display text “blurry”, but often this isn’t noticeable I used a Dell ultrasharp 49” 5210x1440 ultrawide (it’s the equivalent of 2x 27” 1440p monitors side by side with no center bezel) and the text has always been fine for me. It’s obviously not going to be as sharp as something like a 27” 5K monitor or other “retina” screen (like the MacBook built in display), but it’s not an issue whatsoever
r/mac • An ultrawide curved monitor suitable for a Mac – does this exist at all? ->I have been running a 49 inch curved Dell monitor for like 5 years. Love it and have had BetterSnapTool for most of that time. I think there is a way to set snap spaces in the new OS but haven’t messed with it since The snap tool I’m using is working fine.
r/mac • An ultrawide curved monitor suitable for a Mac – does this exist at all? ->Sorry for the late reply. At first, the strong curvature takes some time getting used to. Less so when gaming (that looks fanatical and you don’t really notice the curve at all). But when working, it does take some time to adjust. That can take a few days. I sit about 95–100 cm (3–3.2 ft) away, which should be about the limit for this kind of curvature and resolution (LG recommends 80 cm / 2.6 ft). Speaking of resolution: I’m using a Mac mini M4 Pro at the native resolution of 5120x2160. Some text and labels do appear a bit small (and I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore ;D). Sure, I *could* lower the resolution a bit, but then the image becomes a bit too soften for my taste.. I’m still experimenting with it a bit. That said, I’m very happy with the text clarity on the LG. Before this, I had a Dell 49” (5120 x 1440) with a lower pixel density (109 ppi). But honestly, I don’t notice any major difference now.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • 4k ultrawide oled monitors coming out ->I’ve used different models across Dell, LG, Samsung, Lenovo, and Cepter for 49” IPS. I don’t think 57” is realistically anymore viable than 49”. Might be better to just double up (or more) on 49” if you need the real estate. The Dell Ultrasharp was definitely my favorite, but I recently picked up the Lenovo ThinkVision P49, and so far it’s giving Dell a run for the money. Albeit it is more expensive.
