I just received a dell 34” today. imo Side by side screens are still just as sufficient as 2 24” monitors. I also went to a micro center where they had a 40 inch on display, and it just felt like too much monitor. It’s 21:9 too, and quite lovely if I’m being honest, but 34 really feels like that sweet spot. As for a rec I’ll just say I did a bunch of research, and felt the best monitor for my needs was the dell u3425we. I was able to get one off eBay for a few hundred less than msrp. I considered the dell p3424we because it is cheaper, and it had comparable specs as the u34, but the u gives more ports and 120 Hz compared to 60 (among other things I’m sure). If those things aren’t super important to you then I think you could save some money by opting for the p34. No matter what you choose I recommend exploring the ‘open-box’ market for a good deal. Good luck!

r/ultrawidemasterrace • Need help choosing my first Ultrawide monitor! ->I just picked up the Dell 32" Ultra Sharp (U3425WE) and have been happy so far. My home office isn't that big so screen real estate is an issue. Regardless, the 34" has been handling everything so far. Of note, I do not game on it since it is work/personal use.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best non-OLED ultrawide ->I use the Dell Ultrasharp 34" (U3425WE) with my M1 Max and it is awesome. No complaints.
r/MacOS • An ultrawide curved monitor suitable for a Mac – does this exist at all? ->I think either of the new Dell UW monitors fits your use case. I have the U3425 for 85/15 work/play and it's great. U4025 is also really goosnif you want 4k.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best Ultrawide for Productivity ->I don't game. Mechanical engineering work 95% of the times. I wanted SMOOTH and EASY connectivity with my Dell laptop, MacBook Pro M3 and my beast - Dell Precision 7920 workstation. I wanted thunderbolt connectivity. I had bought the Dell U4025QW. It was the best monitor that I used till date but I ended up returning it and bought the U3425WE. I had bought it from BestBuy. Here are the two reasons for returning it. 1. I don't have a deep desk and sit 20" from my monitor. At this distance the 40" screen felt huge. I never used the extremities of the monitor. Also, I am renting right now and may move maybe a couple of times before buying a house. The monitor is just too bulk if you plan to move etc. 2. The second important reason is I had these weird wear lines on my screen. Maybe a manufacturing defect? At this price point, I didn't want to take a risk. [https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/1drrrzy/new\_dell\_u4025qw\_monitor\_with\_horizontal\_lines\_is/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/1drrrzy/new_dell_u4025qw_monitor_with_horizontal_lines_is/) Will get my 34" Dell tomorrow. Will update my experience.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Dell U3425WE Impressions So Far ->Yeah. I retuned the 40". I bought the 32" UW. The first one had ONE dead pixel so I retuned it. The replacement 32" is good now. Pros \- My experience is that it's perfect for working. The size is perfect for medium size desk. There are no hassles when connecting to machines. \- Perfect for MS windows productivity. Cons \- Bad for gaming. \- The text is tiny bit blurry for mac os. But I think it's a mac problem not the monitor problem.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Dell U3425WE Impressions So Far ->I really like my Dell Ultrasharp U3425WE. The integrated TB4 dock is really nice. For me that was important. It’s sharp even though it has WQHD resolution. Also 120hz if you fancy some gaming. But it’s rather expensive … i was lucky that my ex-boss paid for it :) Edit: I have a MBP M1, I charge it through the monitor. Clean desk ftw :) Edit2: it has no HDR but I don’t really miss it. It’s bright and dark enough.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best non-OLED ultrawide ->So, I pulled the trigger on a Dell U3425WE. I recently switched from a dual setup featuring a Dell S2721DGF and an LG 29UM69. My usage leans heavily towards productivity (about 80% coding), with the remaining 20% split between gaming and media consumption. **Thoughts so far:** • **USB Thunderbolt Connection:** The ability to swap notebooks with power delivery using a single cable is very practical. • **34” for Productivity:** Picture-by-Picture (PBP) works great with two different input sources. • **Software Network KVM:** Dell Display Manager is functional but lags, especially noticeable on MacOS. Sometimes, accessing the monitor’s OSD directly is quicker. I have a feeling that paid solutions like Synergy would achieve the same or better results. • **USB KVM:** Works well but lacks seamless mouse cursor movement between PBP screens. • **Light Bleed:** Present in all four corners, especially noticeable in a dark room. While not a major issue for work and coding, it’s inconvenient for media consumption and gaming. • **Audio Output:** Immediate switching to headphones isn’t supported; it functions more like a line-out, allowing audio through monitor speakers. (still testing that one) • **Speaker Quality:** The monitor’s built-in speakers are decent for monitor speakers. ~~•~~ **~~Gaming:~~** ~~As a casual gamer (mainly Overwatch), I found noticeable drawbacks in refresh rate and input lag. Gaming felt like a downgrade overall, with issues like high input lag, response times, and screen tearing detracting from the experience. AMD Adrenaline software reports Adaptive Sync, but it doesn’t seem to affect much; screen tearing is still noticeable.~~ **~~Don’t pick this monitor for gaming, especially if you’re used to Freesync or GSync compatible ones. I didn’t think I’d miss it so much until I lost those features.~~** ***UPDATE: Doing more tests on this one. I'll update the thread soon*** **~~TLDR:~~** ~~Great for productivity and static images. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for gaming or media consumption, even for occasional use.~~ **Right now, I’m weighing these options:** 1. Returning the monitor and reverting to my old setup, possibly getting a standalone KVM. 2. Returning it and buying a Gigabyte M34WQ instead, which seems like a better all-around productivity/gaming monitor (although I might lose the curve and potentially sacrifice warranty and quality, based on my research so far). 3. Stacking the S2721DGF with the U3425WE to have the “best of both worlds” (though I’m concerned about my desk space being cramped). 4. Considering OLED and dealing with the worry of burn-in while using the display for work. **Update #1** LG model. Gaming review update. **UPDATE #2** I decided to keep the monitor. I take back what I said earlier about gaming. It seems there was an issue with my system or the settings. While it may not be ideal if your primary focus is "serious" competitive gaming, it works well for single-player and multiplayer games. I made a combination of changes, so I’m not sure which one specifically reduced the issues I was experiencing. However, I have a feeling that enabling VRR in the Windows settings, rather than just in the AMD Adrenaline panel, made a significant difference. Additionally, I’ve been turning off the Dell Display Manager and the KVM switch when I play games. **Some games I tested that worked very well:** • Titanfall 2 • Control • Overwatch 2 • Dishonored 2 • Subnautica • Bioshock Infinite • Quantum Break I also tested connecting my iPhone directly to the Thunderbolt port, mirroring the screen, and playing games from it. It worked perfectly. **TLDR:** If your usage leans more towards 80% gaming and 20% productivity, you might want to check out OLED monitors. If it’s the reverse, like in my case (80% productivity / 20% gaming), this monitor is perfectly suitable and quite versatile.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Dell U3425WE Impressions So Far ->Hey there, I ended up keeping the monitor. I found out the issue was actually with the AMD driver — for some reason, VRR wasn’t being enabled properly in certain scenarios. After installing an older version of the driver, everything started working perfectly. Maybe it’s already fixed in newer versions, but I decided to play it safe and just stick with the older driver 😅 It’s worth mentioning that I did have a red vertical line appear on the screen about a month after the purchase. Dell promptly replaced the unit and sent a technician to my home — no hassle at all.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Dell U3425WE Impressions So Far ->I’ve just ordered a Dell UltraSharp U3425WE which is a IPS black display. I pretty much only use the monitor for work, mainly coding, teams etc. People tend to advise to stay away from OLED for work without any gaming. I have no experience with ultra wide or OLED, so very curious how this screen will perform.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best Ultrawide for 100% Excel ->Ive just received the display and it looks awesome. However, what others have been mentioning, the text is not as sharp on a 4k display. It is slightly noticeable, I’ve been comparing it to both my Mac display & previous 27” 4k display. I love the look and screen real estate. The 40” version might be the sweet spot, but it’s roughly 800-1000 euros more expensive here, which I’m not willing to invest.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best Ultrawide for 100% Excel ->Depending on the prices, i would invest 150-200 more for better resolution, however i got mine on clearance which makes the difference more than 500,-, which almost is a second display.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best Ultrawide for 100% Excel ->For what its worth: i'm going to return the monitor. I see it as a long term investment into a more joyable experience during working - ive had my previous monitor (dell up2715k) for close to 10 years, and its still more clear than the U3425WE. I've ordered the 40WP95CP-W, which has 140 ppi vs the dell's 109.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best Ultrawide for 100% Excel ->I did not have the IPS requirement until I saw the black smearing on VA panels (scrolling white text on black background, which is similar to my use case of coding with dark mode on). Do you believe a higher quality panel like Dell S3425DW will have that issue? I also dropped Dell U3425WE solely due to no HDR. The more I look around, the more I feel that I'm not going to have much luck meeting all this, maybe even in the $1500-$2000 range.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Recommendations on 34" Ultrawide IPS within $1000 ->This is the one I use. Great out of the box but near perfect when using HiDPI via BetterDisplay app. Really sharpens characters. r/mac • An ultrawide curved monitor suitable for a Mac – does this exist at all? ->Great review. Would love to know how the Gigabyte compares to the Dell if you go that route. I picked up the U3425WE after having the U3824DW and I'm reasonably happy despite the response time. Make me regret it :)
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Dell U3425WE Impressions So Far ->Reading this on a dell ultrasharp u3425we i dont game, i am in docs, spreadsheets and calls all day. It replaced a u3421we that is now on my wifes desk Plugged into a personal M1 pro or my work M3 pro at 3440x1440 Never had any issues and the single cable to the usb hub makes the setup clean. For example, i have a 4k webcam plugged into the monitor hub and whichever machine is plugged in picks it up. I do the same with a logitech mouse and jabra headset dongle. A few weeks ago I literally ordered and received a studio display but couldnt bring myself to open it and having terrible regret at the price. I returned it and ordered the dell at half the price and am very happy. The thing to bear in mind is that despite the 5k resolution in fact the actual day 2 day usage is half that resolution due to the way the pixels combine for the retina. Which makes a very crisp sharp display but smaller working area. Yes you can run at 5k but i already wear screen glasses i dont want more squinting The big wide monitor works better for many open windows and side by side docs. Its very clear, stable and … wide. But not so wide that you can’t see from one side to another in your field of vision. In fact i now have the M1 closed, in a stand slightly behind the display. My newer u3425 is 120hz but honestly i would struggle to tell you where you can see the difference with my use case. Hth. The 3421 was 3.5y old and was fine, it was mostly my wife wanting to steal it after using it for a few days that was the reason, id expect to get 4-5 years minimum with the new one! My notes files from when i was choosing suggested the m1pro maxes out at 3840x2160 at 60hz so be mindful of this and check, pushing this res or higher might have a bearing on performance, particularly 2 of them, or you might need a thunderbolt hub.(?)
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Help choosing an ultrawide monitor for a M1 Pro Macbook. ->> MacBook Air > Full HD resolution should be enough (?) I would advise against this. If you're looking for an ultra wide "work" monitor for a Mac, I have three recommendations. All are amazing and, while they "can" game, that's not what they're primarily designed for. * Asus PA34VCNV * Dell U3425WE * HP 734pm All of them are 34", 3440x1440 ultra wide, with USB or Thunderbolt hub, some have KVM. All are pre-calibrated. Asus is 60hz while the other two are 120hz. All have USB-C display with power delivery. Asus is 96W. Dell is 90W. HP has two, 100W and 65W. I think each will meet your needs. Just depends on your budget and which additional features you want from each. Hope that helps.
r/Monitors • Why are good "Work” monitors so difficult to find? Need a 34” Ultrawide for Mac ->Dell S3425DW - yes it has that issue, you cant rly get away from black smearing, it can only be less depending on the panel Dell U3425WE - that was probably the best 34" option if you dont care about gaming and HDR
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Recommendations on 34" Ultrawide IPS within $1000 ->If you have a two pcs setup (working and private) , then I’d recommend the LG 38WR85. 144hz refresh rate and around 2 ms response time. The integrated KVM switch works as it should, no input lag when connecting the peripherals to the monitor. Only the “low” pixel density can be bothersome when coding or reading for multiple hours. The Dell U3425WE has almost perfect text clarity and your eyes will thank you for that, but fps games can be bothersome on it. It also has an integrated KVM. The biggest negative point: the Thunderbolt 4 hub doesnt support USB-C AltMod so no two PCs setup unless one of your machines supports TB4 AND you have full privilege on that machine. The U4025QW supports USB-C AltMod but it really is expensive. All this monitors use IPS technology.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • I want a super ultra wide for work and gaming... but everything is OLED now? ->I'm using Dell ultrawide 34" with Thunderbolt connection and it works perfectly fine for me.
r/macbook • An ultrawide curved monitor suitable for a Mac – does this exist at all? ->I use a Dell Ultrasharp 34” curved wide screen. It’s perfect for my MacBook Pro. It’s also a USB C hub so you only need I cable for power and image which is really handy. It also has lots of usb ports so you can make up for your Mac’s lack of connectivity
r/mac • An ultrawide curved monitor suitable for a Mac – does this exist at all? ->Dell ultrasharp 34” fits this. Has a mac specific variant i think. Relatively pricy though at least in CDN
r/Monitors • Why are good "Work” monitors so difficult to find? Need a 34” Ultrawide for Mac ->I went from a Dell 34" UW to a Dell 49" UW and honestly the 49" is too wide for productivity. Now admittedly the curve on the Dell is not as aggressive as some of the Samsungs, but the edges of the screen are out of my field of view and require too much rotation of my neck to be useful to me. When I bought the monitor, I thought I was going to make greater use of the picture-by-picture feature to run a customer laptop and my work laptop at the same time but turns out that was not a scenario I really needed (most of my customer's would rather give me a VDI than send me a laptop). I like it for gaming, but I am considering moving to a 38 or 40" 21:9 monitor after tax season.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best Ultrawide for Productivity? ->I don’t game. Do you think it’s an overkill just for software development? I currently have a Dell 34” ultra wide, it has a DPI of 109 which I absolutely hate.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • LG 45" 5K2K, ascension and impressions ->I use the Dell Ultrawide 34" and connect via Thunderbolt. Display quality and refresh rate is perfect, not a hint of blurriness.
r/macbook • An ultrawide curved monitor suitable for a Mac – does this exist at all? ->yup, got a Kogan 34inch, I use it as my gaming monitor, has a better refresh rate and color for gaming, I also have a Dell 34inch that is my main movie monitor and a 27 inch Acer that is primarily used for photo editing as it is colour matched to my printer and when not in use for photos discord usually lives on it [https://imgur.com/a/CPdnkvr](https://imgur.com/a/CPdnkvr)
r/bapcsalesaustralia • Kogan 38” Ultrawide ->I’ve used different models across Dell, LG, Samsung, Lenovo, and Cepter for 49” IPS. I don’t think 57” is realistically anymore viable than 49”. Might be better to just double up (or more) on 49” if you need the real estate. The Dell Ultrasharp was definitely my favorite, but I recently picked up the Lenovo ThinkVision P49, and so far it’s giving Dell a run for the money. Albeit it is more expensive.
r/ultrawidemasterrace • Best ultrawide productivity monitor? ->
