Hooked up a Dell UltraSharp U3821DW (WQHD+ 3.840 x 1.600) with my M4 Mini and it is absolutely fine.

This is still my primary monitor, and I'm disappointed that Dell discontinued it without even a mild refresh. I tried the 3423 OLED at the same time and rejected it because of text quality, but based on CES news, it seems my best hope is that the new 40" 5k2k OLED panels have improved on that front, because it seems like there's nothing else on the horizon.

Even on the new screens? Really wanna upgrade my AW3821DW to the LG45GX990A but I’m 70% designing / 30% gaming. I thought the new pixel density would have fixed the text issue

I bought the Dell S3423DWC for home and I run a 38 version at work. Connect via USBC which provides power - built in KVMs / and spend most of my time with spreadsheets and/or creating wireframes/screen designs for systems to show clients. I’ve loved it. I’ve had one “issue” if you can even call it that 1 screen sharing and showing the wireframes - if I’m on my 34 or 38 and they’re on a normal screen it’s caused a few “issues” - it’s fine you can zoom in it’s not a massive problem but worth knowing if you will be showing your designs that people will just complain that it looks to small. Just tell them to get a widescreen 😂 My main issue now is I want one that works for gaming and for work (the dell is fine but I wouldn’t mind getting something above 100hz). It’s hard to find a 34 with a KVM and geared towards gaming (or maybe it’s not and it’s just a me issue) But yeah honestly for work it’s been so good I can’t go back

I have a similar Dell 38" (3840 x 1600) for the same reason of vertical real estate, and I still had to stick a vertically-oriented 1080p next to it for better work with documents. All these widescreen monitors with 32:9 aspect ratios feel like complete madness to me, so wide they cover a desk yet hardly tall enough to fit a doc or webpage with all that wasted potential vertical space.

Dell's 38" ultrasharp monitor has those settings, and LG announced a 45" 5k2k at CES.

I’ve used different models across Dell, LG, Samsung, Lenovo, and Cepter for 49” IPS. I don’t think 57” is realistically anymore viable than 49”. Might be better to just double up (or more) on 49” if you need the real estate. The Dell Ultrasharp was definitely my favorite, but I recently picked up the Lenovo ThinkVision P49, and so far it’s giving Dell a run for the money. Albeit it is more expensive.
