It’s the second one, for my workflow (online browsing, excel, word, ppt…etc) I don’t mind 60hz and I know my laptop can’t produce more anyway

Get yourself some 34inch monitor ;-) Something like a LG 34WQ75C-B and there are more IPS options in that size

r/workfromhomeWFH setup advice: laptop + monitor for heavy reading/document work

My official job title is Business Analyst, but my function is essentially a form of grant writing. 90% to include reading and editing documents. My laptop and software were all provided by my employer, as well as two functional, but old, monitors. I bought the LG 34” curved monitor (on sale for $160) and it’s been a game changer for me. I don’t lose track of my cursor, c & p is easier, and I can have multiple docs up at the same time without having to minimize any of them. I’ve also found I have less head/eye aches. And my desk just feels less cluttered with one monitor as opposed to two. Also bought a basic, but wireless, mouse and keyboard.

If you get the 34" IPS LG, it's produced a good picture so far.

I still have a 34" LG IPS monitor, it's a good piece of equipment, and until I find the right OLED...👌

I wanted to get it - I stuck with the 34" IPS LG. But the resolution on this and the 38" screen size was super appealing.

Same exact scenario, used a 34” LG for 10 years, bought the 5K2K the second it went live. Absolutely love it, so immersive at my sitting distance, id never go smaller at this point.

I just bought the LG OLED 5K2K 45” ultrawide. I think there’s a 34” version? My last LG 34” 1440p ultrawide was great too. My last 4 monitors have been LG and they’ve been great.

I went with a 34 1440p over the 32 4k. I had this exact dilemma and got the 32 4k first 240hz. My graphic card was 4090 and it looked great but fps was under 100 all the time. Switched to the 1440p 34 240hz and absolute love the switch. I get like 160hz+ and it’s so smooth and beautiful when playing cod and Diablo

I have neither of those monitors. I use a old LG 3440x1440 34". That only has 108ppi resolution while the mentioned 5k2k displays have 140ppi. However, MacOS has scaling problems with everything that is not "retina" resolution, so everything below ~200ppi. I find the text to be a bit blurrier on non-Apple displays compared to Windows. But you get used to it. Also the built-in window management is complicated, sluggish and not really suitable for ultrawide monitors, you'll want additional software like Better Touch Tool or Rectangle.
