VA today isn't the VA of yesteryear. Wal-mart house brand means nothing. The panel is likely the same panel LG uses for its monitor https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34wr50qc-b-ultrawide-monitor If youre a panel snob then you probably already own a $2000 monitor. In that case, you wouldn't even be commenting on this. This is a good deal for those looking for an ultrawide. If not for gaming I highly recommend this for productivity.

such a great answer man, I've been looking at the same monitor for my work, I currently have dell 27 inch 1080p ips 100hz monitor, but it's quite small and want to upgrade to ultra wide monitor. does va panel affect the way we work with putty windows? I need to have two putty windows and a document or email to be opened all times.

I got this exact monitor last year when it was $199 at Walmart and it’s been great for work. Honestly I want to buy another one to replace my secondary 16:9 1440p since my workflow can take advantage of it. The other user made it sound like a pain to deal with window resizing & snapping, but setting up a work profile with FancyZones is 5 mins tops and simple to use. I did piddle around with gaming on it but I personally wouldn’t recommend it. UW support is hit or miss, and when it sucks it sucks hard. Plus there’s the extra GPU load for the increased resolution to consider. If your work doesn’t scale meaningfully beyond 1080p then you could consider a budget 2160p main monitor since it is essentially four 1080p windows on one panel. And you can always run games at 1080p on it without scaling issues if you have a lower end GPU. Just food for thought.

Highly depends on what you want to do. This is far below your budget, and it’s your standard LG VA 34” ultrawide. The Dell S3222DWG has a higher refresh rate for example and for $300. This Acer one is also good: https://acerrecertified.com/acer-34-widescreen-gaming-monitor-3440x1440-165hz-21-9-300nit-hdmi-displayport-um-ce3aa-v01-um-ce3aa-v01/ There are some IPS ultrawides kicking around for $500 or less I’ve seen but I’m blanking out on which ones (the QD-OLEDs have basically destroyed the ultrawide market since that’s all people talk about now). VA is not bad but it’s certainly something you might need to get used to.

Love to hear what people experience with Text Christmas on these monitors. I have an LG 34 inch curved monitor and the text is not very crisp and I find it distracting. Anybody able to compare it to a max studio display or one of the other similar ones that have 220 dpi

Both. Ultra-wide 34" curved in the center; 27" vertical on left for email, Teams chat, windows explorer, etc.; 24" landscape upper right; laptop lower right.

LG 34 inch ultra wide. Dell 4k 27 inch portrait positioning. PowerToys is your friend! Easiest multi monitor management system I've ever used.

And still with 21: 9, two pages of almost anything fit quite nicely side by side... I've been using a LG 34 inch ultra wide for 5 years and it's been great. Three pages side by side no problem if some of them can be squished a little bit. I'm now upgrading to a 40 inch ultrawide and hoping to fit up to four pages side by side if a little squished some of them...

I have a 34inch ultra wide from LG. I don't do this but I did test it out. From my one 14inch MacBook pro I connected to my monitor using their thunderbolt type c connection, giving power to the laptop and display to the monitor. I then connected the HDMI from monitor to laptop. My monitor has the ability to display both inputs at once in a split mode and the MacBook thinks of it as two displays. Pretty neat

I use Better Display ([link](https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay)) on a 34" LG Ultrawide and unlocks a bunch of HiDPI scaled resolutions. Quality is excellent. What I'm not sure about is what spec you need to check for compatibility. For example, when I connect via HDMI I have a way smaller list of available resolutions than when I connect with USB-C.

I use a cheaper end LG 3440x1440 monitor connected to a 2019 MBP as my daily driver. Zero issues at all, no blurry text
