I've been researching hours on end trying to find the ONE perfect 21:9 ultrawide monitor to upgrade to that balances **productivity, media and** **gaming.** I WfH from 8:30-5 three days of the week. My current monitor is a **LG 35WN65C-B** which is a VA panel. I don't have enough space to position two monitors side by side on my desk, and stacking them vertically with a tall pole dual monitor stacking arm is the perfect recipe for getting neck problems. # What I Need: * **Resolution:** 3440x1440, 3840x1600, or even 5120x2160. * **Refresh Rate:** 144Hz or higher * **Ports:** Thunderbolt 4 or USB-C with at least **90W Power Delivery**. * **Use Cases:** * Music Production, Video Editing, & Work Productivity (MacBook Pro + Windows Work Laptop) * Gaming & Entertainment (PC) Here's my research journey below full of what if's, potential regrets and overthinking: I was optimistic about OLED tech improving and almost pulled the trigger on the **MSI MPG 341CQPX QD-OLED**. The colours, contrast, and picture quality are stunning from what every reviewer has said and the response times are pure bliss. Burn-in risks however are still very real from what productivity users are saying and text clarity still isn't the best since these 1440p UW's are using Gen 1 Panels. Even if I were to wait for the new 5K2K from LG unveiled at CES 2025, I don't know if I can’t justify spending a good amount of money for the risk of burn-in with my use cases. So then you'd think the reasonable conclusion is to go Mini-LED right? But almost no UW mini-LED monitors exist here in Australia except the **Lenovo Legion Y34WZ-30** and **AOC AGON Pro AG344UXM**. There's almost next to no reviews on either but I've heard the Lenovo has a smaller amount of dimming zones and one reviewer who did review the AOC said there were way better options in it's price range. VA panels all have bad smearing and response times, so the last stop left is IPS panels. I found the **LG 38WR85QC-W** was on point for what I was looking for; USB-C with 90W PD, 1ms response time, 144hz refresh rate and KVM features. Unfortunately, IPS Contrast Ratio's are awful coming from my VA panel and this one is no exception. I heard YouTubers raving on the **Dell U4025QW** which caught my attention since it has **Thunderbolt 4 w/ 140W PD +** IPS black. However, it's only 120Hz and it has a 5-8ms response time, which feels like a compromise for gaming. To be splurging that amount of money too on those IPS monitors I mentioned, I can’t help but feel it's a waste and at that point, you're entering OLED pricing territory. Long story short, with my use case scenario should I just go for one of the IPS options and live with it's drawbacks? Take the risk for the MSI OLED? Or wait for the new OLED UWs coming this year?

I’ve used 21:9 for almost 10 years now, had a 1080p 29 inch LG and a now 16 year old 24 inch 16:9 second 1080p ASUS. In the past year I went to 1440p 21:9 35 inch LG and run the old 29 inch as the second monitor. I gave my wife the 24 inch 1080p ASUS for her second monitor, that thing is a trooper

I own the UW1440p and it's an excellent monitor for gaming. I also play FPS shooters and have essentially the same computer (5070Ti instead of 9070XT), and it's a perfect monitor for that. Having said that, since you can find both for similar prices, I'd probably go with the 5k2k. You guys can always pop in a 5090 or whatever is king down the road, and AM5 will be supported for years.

I'm not OP, but I use mine exclusively for gaming. Perfect balance of performance and quality for the games I play. And yeah, I would not use it for work or text heavy stuff. My Dell 5k2k sits next to it for that stuff 😅

I use a cheaper end LG 3440x1440 monitor connected to a 2019 MBP as my daily driver. Zero issues at all, no blurry text

this is my thought…. I have a 3440x1440 LG that works great with my 4070ti but I can unfortunately tell the difference between 1440p and my old 4K. I’d be fine taking the performance hit until I can upgrade my GPU hopefully the 6070 or 6070ti will be able to run 4k
