Based on 1 year's data from Feb 15, 2026 How it works
Bruh, 32:9 ALL THE WAY with a G9 Neo 49 and NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEERRRRRR look back. You won't be able to once you experience it.
My LG5k2k is yet to give out unlike my Neo 49 Odyssey that I had for 1.5 years, so I still give a slight win to the LG, personally. I use mine for work, and I must admit, I was concerned going to a smaller screen from the Neo, yet the added height more than makes up for it.
I made this exact transition from 2x27" to 1x49" several years ago. Never looked back. Sitting at the dead center with a curve keeping even the far edges at a constant distance makes all of the space fully usable. Otherwise you're either staring at two bezels in the middle of everything, or one of the monitors is way off to the side. Edit: Since you asked about radius: the curve on the Neo G9 is 1000R which I think is great. I haven't tried any others so I can't compare it to anything else. I know I prefer the curve A LOT over either the 2x27" being in a straight line, or having one angled.
I went from two monitors side by side to the 32:9 curved g9 and the curve is much more pleasant for multi-window work and play. There's no bezels where you don't want them, there's no mis-match, and the curve is makes every pixel usable from edge to edge.
If you can find it, the 34GN850 is an excellent IPS monitor. I switched that to my office PC at the shop. Main rig at home I went with 49" Samsung Neo G9.
I've had a couple. For a 34" I loved the LG 34GN850-b. IPS, great picture, overclocks to 160Hz overall a solid work and gaming monitor. 49" Samsung Neo G9 now I'll do my paperwork online and whatever but this in my opinion is geared more towards gaming. 1800R pretty aggressive curve. Very fast VA panel so imperceptible black smear. But viewing angles are centered to main user, someone looking over your shoulder would see color shifting, washed out image. But it's immersive as hell. Super bright even in SD content (I'm older, could care less about HDR or setting it up on Windows 11). PBP mode with separate inputs. Change onto 2 separate monitors and change screen ratio. Just my opinion
Samsung QD-OLED G9 is quite stunning, since they're glossy like the Macbook's they pop really well in color. Otherwise you don't have many options except for MiniLED backlights in the Neo G9 49"and the G9 57", with the G9 57" being the main attraction due to its size and resolution (Dual UHD). Unfortunately those are VA panels, but they're still very good compared to a few years ago. There's no MiniLED IPS 32:9's unfortunately like on the Macbook. Only OLED, VA, VA + MiniLED, IPS, IPS Black.
If you do want to stay the same format just less depth, the OLED G9's are 1800R instead of 1000R, much less aggressive curve and OLED in general can be a lot thinner due to no backlight. I cant tell you exact numbers but I would say especially on the edges left and right when I switched from the 1000R VA G9 to 1800R OLED G9 I reclaimed a ton of space. See the comparison here: [https://i.imgur.com/RqDq6sc.png](https://i.imgur.com/RqDq6sc.png) That said, if you do want to downscale or dont want OLED, I think you wont be able to save much on depth overall (as the monitor will be backlit), but with less curve and less width (like 21:9 39"/40") its still more manageable. Dell and LG will have good offerings for 37" - 40", mainly for office, though. Samsung introduced a 5k2k one at that size I believe. (sorry i only know oled monitors)
Work/Productivity and value only? Probably yes. OLED is out of question, so you're stuck with VA or IPS. Unless you need Samsung most of the 32:9 VA panels are the same 144hz/240hz panel Samsung uses - you might find a cheaper 32:9 VA from ASUS, Acer, Phillips, Illyama, AOC - most use the exact same panel, some OC it out of box or offer other stuff that could actually be interesting for work/productivity (like a built in kvm, usb-c power delivery, speakers, etc.). LG does 32:9 IPS panels, better color and viewing angles on those make it interesting for productivity/work too, depending on the type of work. So I would keep those in mind and check the pricing in your country. Maybe there's a better option, otherwise the entry level G9 is totally fine for work.
Yeah, I actually prefer the 1000R curve on my G9 Neo vs the G9 OLED's 1800R. Productivity included.
\- LG Reliability > Samsung Reliability (my G9 Neo has flickering issues, My OLED version won't go above 120 hz anymore) \- Even more power required to drive games on the 57" vs LG. \- 21:9 > 32:9 IMO (and very subjective, but a reason nonetheless for many).
I just picked up the LG 45” GX9 5k2k to replace my Samsung 49” Neo G9 panel, which I’ll be selling to recoup at least some of the $2k this thing cost. 32:9 is too wide for anything gaming but racing IMO. Shooters make me dizzy on 32:9 49” At the moment I’m a bit nervous it’ll be too big ( and colors of WOLED ) still— I was hoping to wait until the 39” version but now hearing that won’t be until later in 2026 now until it’s actually available. I guess if it’s really too big I’ll just grab another 32” Alienware for this setup and wait it out. But none of those are on sale at the moment and I’m impatient presently.
yeah, agreed. colors aren't perfect, size is way better than neo g9
Yeah Samsung is garbage sadly. Coming from someone who has a G9 OLED, NEO G9, Samsung washer dryer, Samsung tv x 6, lol. Washer dryer did really well. Their TVs are good if you buy the higher end ones. Their monitors have all had issues for me and their one lower end tv I bought takes forever to connect to the internet. I’m not certain LG is much better from a customer service perspective but their monitors have just “worked.”
All the games you mentioned have stretched edges and lazy fisheye lens implementation. Sold my Neo G9 already so no idea if you can tweak the FOW slider to bearable levels in 32:9. For me 21:9 is the sweet spot but YMMV.
I would recommend the Samsung G9. I bought one last November and it's been serving me well as I deal with a ton of spreadsheets. Goes without saying that gaming on it is amazing. BUT, if you will be working with a lot of static pages, I would otherwise suggest the 52" Neo which is a Mini LED version of the 49" G9 to avoid any burn-in anxiety. It's for this reason that I put a 2nd Mini LED monitor on top of my G9. Anything static i need reference to lives on that monitor.
For mostly productivity, I would avoid anything oled for obvious reasons and go with any mini led ips monitor. My recommendation would be the samsung g9 neo.

I wend from a 34" ultrawide to a 49" g9 and i really love it. That said though, oled is not the best for productivity due to burn-in risks. For this reason, I added a 27" ips mini led on top of it. I mainly deal with lengthy excel sheets so i can really appreciate the extra wideness of the 49". To further reduce the risk of burn in though, I use the 2nd monitor for anything static i need referencing to such as static excel sheets, emails, websites, spotify, etc. If you have a lot of static windows in your workflow, i would suggest the 57" g9 neo which is a mini led version of the g9, albeit a bit bigger.
The literal best monitor you can get is the 49" G9 Mini LED monitor from Samsung. It's extremely close to IPSs vivid colors due to the quantum dot panel, deep and rich dark details due to the Mini LED. Smearing isn't a big problem realistically on a high end VA panel like this.
34" is too small, 57" is too big. I've been using 49" Samsung Neo G9 (mini-led 1000R version) for 2 years and I love it for productivity and gaming. I edit and color grade HDR videos and I wish the monitor was taller / had a bit more height in terms of real-estate. Looking forward to 45" 5k2K mainly because of how tall it is and OLED 21:9 for editing videos.
