Got mine for work. Just went black screen and unresponsive yesterday. Samsung customer support sucks.
It was great! I often have 3 windows open at once and the curved 49” is perfect for that
I used it during law school (so almost exclusively text) and it was fine. The text looked fine to me. Not super sharp and the Dell ultrawides are definitely crisper for text, but for being half the price of a comparable Dell I was happy with the odyssey
This will handle anything reasonable. I’ve got a very similar setup with a Samsung odyssey 49 and have great performance. Getting 144hz at 1440p. https://www.samsung.com/us/monitors/gaming/49-inch-odyssey-g9-g91f-dqhd-144hz-gaming-monitor-sku-ls49fg910enxza/?cid=eml-ecm-trnx-OrderReceipt
G91F and love it, couldn’t care less about OLED.
I am a PM as well. I recommend the LS49FG910ENXZA from Samsung, has a VA panel so burnout is out the question. It is affordable and on sale right now. Also, with a 240hz panel if you ever game or watch content it is silky smooth. All that said, it is very budget dependant and you could get a nicer monitor with a whole lot more like the ROG swift 49.
Just purchased this exact model. Wasn't mainly for productivity, but I have tried out situations for working with it. Coming from a 27" main monitor and 29" ultrawide side monitor, the screen space is very similar to that, but I can now have the middle for productivity and both left and right sides for a different application. Fancyzones and always on top from Microsoft powertoys are 100% needed. Theres no complaints on the image quality, and it's basically what I had prior (Odyssey G5). If you're coming from the same 1 main + 1 ultrawide side monitor, I wouldn't recommend getting it for purely productivity as it's very similar. And if you can get it with promotions, then it's much easier to recommend, I was able to get it for about $700 USD with the SSD
I bought a brand new G9 1000R 144hz one month ago for 709€ . It s perfect . I was coming from VR
The Samsung g91f can be had for under 600. It doesn't have the local dimming or 240hz refresh rate, but it does have the same ppi and curve as the more expensive G9s.
I went from 3 monitors to one g9 49". Totally worth it. My only regret is not getting the 57".
This is exactly what I wanted! I wanted to add height but not give up the width and curve of my g9. Dimensions wise. Hdr600? Is this a joke? I am willing to forego oled because I wfh 4 days a week, but not even local dimming? If it were at least glossy the colors would be better. Who is going to spend the insane amount this monitor is going to cost for what sounds like a large but lackluster display? Maybe it'll at least be more affordable?
That's too big to fit in my office. I currently run one of their 49" ones and it's wide enough, I just want some height. I just wish this new monitor had better specs. They really said "big screen first" and phoned in the rest.
I’m at 49 inch 1440P Samsung G9 ultrawide user and to be completely honest with you. The vertical height is borderline even at 49 inches. I can’t imagine using a 34 inch Ultra Wide. The vertical height must be not much more than a 20 inch monitor. So at that point I would just get the best 27 inch regular high 4K monitor that I could afford. The price premium on Ultra Wide is not really worth it versus the performance unless you’re going really, really wide. Now, if that monitor was OLED, then you might be onto something.
49” 32:9 is incredible for productivity. Never had a 38”, but I ran a 34” 3440x1440 for many years before upgrading to the original Odyssey G9 (2020 model) and the increased width is something you’ll really appreciate for work. Now the Odyssey G9 is sitting on my floor after upgrading to the 45” LG 5k2k OLED. In all honesty, it feels like a bit of a downgrade for productivity going from 32:9 to 21:9, but I appreciate the increased PPI and vertical height. Unfortunately, the 800R curve is a bit tighter than I’d like and it really distorts horizontal lines that are supposed to be straight by making them appear curved or “angled” up/down depending on what side of the screen the window is on. In your case, the only upgrade path I think would make sense is the 57” Neo G9 if it’s in your budget. Same 32:9 aspect ratio, but it’s 140 PPI and equivalent to dual 31.5” 4k monitors side by side, so you won’t be giving up the extra vertical space you’re used to on the 38” monitor. You could also look at some of the new 40” ultrawide monitors (5120x2160) but I think 21:9 is a massive downgrade compared to 32:9 if you’re serious about coding, dashboards, logs, etc
For G9? You do not need any apps.
I have Amazon Fire Stick which I plug into HDMI and PC connected to DP. Then you select PBP in the screen menu and that's it. The only thing is, at least in my first gen G9 that it then defaults to 60Hz refresh rate but this is due to the fact the Fire Stick works at 60Hz. I am sure there is more similar devices out there and some may work at 120Hz. I just am not that much bothered. If I need to play some FPS I just switch to full screen mode to get that 240Hz. If you play FPS you cannot watch telly anyways. I have it side by side 2x 2560x1440 but you can set it to one occupying 2/3 and the other 1/3 as well if you want/need more space. EDIT: Oh, one more thing, if you use Fire Stick the audio obviously goes via HDMI but G9 has audio out mini jack socket so you just need a mini jack cable going from the monitor into your speakers/soundbar or whatever else you use for the sound. Or maybe the newer G9s have speakers built in?
