I have a Viotek 34 inch VA that is about 5 years old. Wonderful for productivity and video, gaming is good but there are some issues that pop up here and there. A modern VA looks and feels awesome, if you are going for a work/play combo monitor they are a good choice, provided you get a well reviewed one.

I've had a Viotek 34" VA for 5 years and never had these issues so I don't think it's all VA panels, or I'm just lucky.

I don't know if Viotek is still around, but I've had a Viotek 34" 1440p UW for 6ish years I think. Great monitor. They use Samsung panels iirc. Edit: I just searched them on Amazon and the products and store show up, but everything is unavailable. That's too bad, because the best $300 I've ever spent on a part for my setup was either that monitor or my Azeron. Tough to choose.

I think budgets are still a huge factor. You can get a decent 34in UW 1440p for $300 or $200-250 on a fire sale. Off brand no name, but I've been using a Viotek and a Dark Matter for 5 years now and they're both excellent. I paid $400 and $350 respectively, and nothing was even remotely comparable in the price range for UW's at the time. Even 1440p regular monitors were a push at that price back then. I really don't know where the market is currently across the board, but for sub $500, you can make a pretty nice setup regardless of your preference for UW or standard aspect ratio. I love the UW feel and would probably lean towards a 49in UW to replace my two 34in UW if they both died, but if it was cheaper, I'd get two 34 UW's again haha. For a solo monitor, yeah, there may be better offerings these days. The 34 UW's were just becoming cheap back then and were very popular. I have loved them since day one!
