Tip when using Reddit: You don't have to do everything the mix of internet strangers, bots, and advertisers says. I don't have a recommendation for you, as the bagless at my house is a Bissel Cleanview Allergen Lift Off Pet. I'm favoring my bagged used Riccar Vibrance over it lately, the suction power is way better and it is a quieter machine. Heavier though. A used Riccar might be the best value in premium vacuums, next to Kirby (but you need to be a certain type of person to enjoy using a Kirby). Riccar can easily be found under $100 where you will not find a used Miele or Sebo in that price range.

Just get him a self cleaning brushroll Bissell or Shark. At this point in your lives he doesn't need a forever vacuum. A shop vac will be more frustrating the first time it's tried on a rug and end up never used.

I recently tried a bunch of Shark and Dyson vacuums, and they're all awful for carpet. They just suck down on the carpet and won't move. They have a suction release valve, but it's just not enough to make a difference. And then just now, I tried several Bissell models, and found one that works: [CleanView Swivel Rewind Pet](https://www.bissell.com/en-us/product/cleanview-swivel-rewind-pet-vacuum-cleaner-3837.html) (Model 3837). It has adjustable height, and the highest setting moves smoothly across my carpet while still cleaning fine sand or large litter pellets in 2 passes. I also tried the CleanView Max with the "Tangle-free brush," and it was terrible. The bristles on that one are too stiff and sparse, damaging the carpet while failing to actually agitate properly and catch debris. The only problem with these Bissell vacuums is I don't like the "TurboEraser" hose attachment that comes with them. It's way too aggressive, with rigid fins, so it kinda just beats and eats the surface, rather than rolling the fur off. I think Bissell has some other rollerbrush hose attachments that might work better for furniture surfaces.

Pet Hair Eraser Allergen. I have the CleanView Furguard Max and the SurfaceSense version of it. Theyre both the same but I like it alot and the HEPA filter really does work. I dont sneeze or nothing. Even when it gets dirty like a vacuum does with much use.

I have 2 long-haired cats and 1 with mink-type fur (shiny coarse guard hair with a downy underfur). Its summer and they are shedding like its an Olympic sport. I just had all the carpets replaced with vinyl flooring. I run a roborock robot vacuum in a hard floored room of the house every day. It picks up hair I didn't even notice was there. I have a shark handheld that I use on steps and some tough to get to corners daily. I bought a Bissell clear view allergen vacuum with the pet turbo brush that is excellent for getting fur off the cat towers. The vacuum was not expensive but I only have 1 rug, 2 cat towers and 3 bedrooms - so its great. I love that it has a clear cannister so I can see it working.

I absolutely back the Bissell FurGuard, after I got it I would give demonstrations to anyone who visited. I have 2 long haired cats and new cream carpet, it never clogs or decides to stop working for no reason. ALSO, the vacuum head is study enough that it can stand on its own rather than needing to be stuck to a wall mount for storage.

For $500 you could get the dual threat of vacuuming options: Shark Navigator lift away (very strong HEPA filter vacuum) + Bissell FurGuard (cordless super convenient 280wt option) Just my recommendation as someone who has to vacuum at least once a day (technically don’t need to, I don’t even have pets, I just don’t like the feeling of dirty floors when walking barefoot) and who observes these canisters getting filled & my floors getting clean with just a quick few minutes of vacuuming
