For this purpose, you can get a shedding attachment for an existing vacuum for $10 on Amazon. You get one with rubbery fingers like this one https://preview.redd.it/t9radnatwssf1.jpeg?width=350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd906eec845044363d52f0fab27603cd7f624d23 Ones with hard fingers don't work nearly as well. My two JRTs shed small white hairs year round and this gets them up from furniture, beds, covers, clothes, and in my car for carpet and neoprene seat covers where they get woven in. I have two of these - one for my car and one in the house. However, if you need a complete vacuum, the previous version of the Dyson Animal (Total Clean) with a lot of attachments (like the rotary brush ) is on sale on Amazon for $410.
That’s what I thought, too. Here’s my math on that: I spent $1k on my Sebo in March. I added up the cost of the 3 Dyson vacuums( I’ve had since 2017) and the parts I’ve had to replace = I should have bought a Sebo sooner. Models I’m literally placing on the curb tomorrow for whoever wants them. I’ve had it with Dyson’s cheap plastic crap: The upright Dyson (2021), V6 (2017) replaced with V11 (2022). All have had their brush heads replaced. 2 of the 3 are broken again. Not sure what’s wrong with the upright, again. We don’t even use them heavily, I have cleaners in once every 2 weeks. It’s absurd.
I'm on my second Dyson Animal upright purchased in 2018. Still works great. I also have a Dyson stick vac and use it daily for touch ups. I love Dyson.
I have had a handheld motor head and the battery runs out in less than 6-7 minutes on full power, but is okay for small items. I recently bought the animal ball at Costco and really like it. Its anecdotal, but I have had terrible luck with.mutliple sharks (3 different models from handheld to fullsize) and won't buy those anymore.
Well you’re going to have the same sort of problems with Shark, they’re worse. Mine wasn’t even meant to have the brushroll removed and cleaned, found that out the hard way. That’s basic maintenance for a vacuum, especially when you have pets and humans with long hair. Shark wanted me to buy a whole new powerhead, lol. Good thing my dad and I are handy and jerry-rigged the Shark back together. My mom bought two Dysons. A (I think) DC40 then one of the pet ones with a ball. They were both crap too. The switched kept going out, luckily our vacuum shop doesn’t gouge people on repairs. I took my commercial Sanitaire (not suggesting this beast to average consumers), but the amount of sand it pulled out of her carpet was fascinating. So the Dysons were just sweeping the surface of her carpet. I’m sure the people here will recommend either a Miele or a Sebo. Other good vacuums exist too. I mainly collect and repair older vacuums as a hobby. So I’m not the one to ask. I do know bagged is better and cleaner than bagless, and direct air cleans deeper than a bypass machine. Air flow is what cleans, not suction.
We have the Dyson ball pet hair vacuum, we’ve had it for three years and love it. My mum had a Dyson that lasted a decade.
I have a Dyson stick, a Dyson pet specific type vacuum cleaner that plugs into the wall, and a robot vacuum. I LOVE the stick and loathe the one that plugs into the wall. The robot is a hassle that never works right AND our golden learned how to turn it off by himself.
That’s the one I have, and it is great, but it just doesn’t seem to get the stairs done well. It’s also pretty unwieldy on the stairs. Taking the extension tube off the Dyson stick vacuum and directly attaching the power head makes it a lot easier, but it just does not seem like it’s doing the best job. It’s ok, but if I was cleaning the place like it was to be rented as an Air BnB, for example, I’d worry that guests might comment about the look of the carpeting on the stairs. Just a data point: the carpeting is only 18 months old and a taupe color.
