Damn, I love you for this. Nerd out my friend! I just bought a Dyson V10 Animal to replace my Dyson V7 that was gifted to me refurbished 3-4 years ago. The tech in the V10 for long hair is AMAZING. No more having to physically cut hair and cat fur off of the brush every month. I tried to fix the V7: replaced the filters and the battery. But it was literally just pushing around debris on the floor. The V10 had a $100 rebate off and I broke, using some Christmas gift money to buy it. I regret nothing, but will take better maintenance care of this one to keep it for life.

I love my Dyson V10 stick. I have a cat who sheds like crazy and it gets it all up. I bought mine on sale a during the lockdown. I had an in-house vac in those days and a much larger townhouse. My black cat's favorite place to play was on my off white stairs. During lockdown I was doing all my own vacuuming and it was hard at my age. My steps were looking grey from Emma rolling down them as she chased her cat toys. I tried the Dyson V10 because it was on sale and it changed my life.

When I originally purchased the V10 I was in a 3 floor townhouse with a mix of hardwood and carpeting. Now my condo is about the size of yours. With all hardwood floors and some rugs. I run it on max power especially over my Oriental rug which seems to collect most of the cat hair. I do like you do, alternating days to vacuum different sections. There are times when the kitchen is all I vacuum after cooking. The stick vac is great because where I am now the storage is very limited. I just happen to have a plug in my storage closet so that is very helpful. I hadn't heard of the Miele before but will check it out if this one should go. I know my cleaning lady loves Dyson. She brings her smaller one when she comes every other week incase mine doesn't last the entire time.

I had a Dyson v10 animal and used it twice a day for about 7 years then the trigger got stuck, I fixed it. Then the battery died, bought a new one. Then the trigger got stuck again and a friend did it for me… and it stopped working. lol Anyway, would love the Dyson v15 detect but too expensive when there are so many other options. Over 6 months I was given 3 sharks. ALL OF THEM HORRIBLE! lol Spit litter out and all over the place, some wasn’t picked up at all. On Amazon, was between Smoture, Unicell, rendow, and Jellypig. Took time to search the reviews about comparisons to a Dyson vs wanting a Dyson but not affording it and trying whichever one. Your review pushed me over! Thanks!!! And I got it for $132!! You still liking it? What made you choose that one?

This might get me down votes but I will say it anyways. Getting a popular brand isn't always a bad thing. Why? Because there will be an absolute load of aftermarket accessories and replacement parts. Dyson may have its issues but it's super duper easy to find different replacement heads and replacement batteries. Their warranty is also fairly good, with them sending replacement pieces for free if it ends up breaking within that warranty (I recommend registering any vaguely expensive product you buy immediately after unboxing to make this process a billion times faster. I cleaned houses with my V6 and the only thing that sucked about it (pun not intended) was the battery life. God did I love that vacuum and, despite me using it probably 5 full charges every single day for over a year before I left Australia, it never lost an ounce of suction and was just really reliable. My family now has had two V10s for about 3 years now (thanks to us getting one for our house and one for my sibling before he moved back in when Canadian Tire had them on sale) and it's pretty damn nice to have a quick and wrist-friendly way to vacuum up since we have 4 people, 2 dogs and 4 cats in our home. I 3D printed a handle so you can hold it like a chainsaw and bought a third-party mini upholstery head for them and goddamn does that thing just pull so much sand and dirt out of our carpets. We have only ever killed one powerhead thanks to a carpet that destroyed the bearings and the 3rd party replacement head we got was only $35 CAD and came with a cool light to see dirt and stuff on the floor.

I have a litter mat that works well to catch the initial track and a Dyson V10. On the boost setting it works well to get the litter out of the carpet. This is the one I have. Yeah, I’m on my third replacement Dyson V10 and I’m done. I’ll never buy another Dyson vacuum at this point and I can’t recommend anyone else do the same. It kills itself if you leave it charging for too long, and it kills itself if you use the advertised high performance mode.

$400 is steep, this model was launched in 2018 and really should be cheaper by now IMO. Also, cordless vacuums generally only last 3 to 5 years. If you're ok with dropping that kind of money for that kind of lifespan, it's not a bad performer. Alternatives I'd look for would be a miele duoflex or triflex. And ideally you'd have a solid corded vac in the side for deeper cleaning/when this breaks.

They're great as a secondary vac for quick cleaning, no doubt superior for quick run arounds. They should always be accompanied by a corded vacuum for deeper cleaning and reliability. I wouldn't call the v10 or any cordless dyson rock solid, the joints are really loose and get worse over time for one. Batteries fail. I had a v10 which failed a month after the measly 2 year warranty ended, and I took exceptionally good care of it. Plus random other failures appear commonplace.

Agree 100%, it's a pile of shite. No matter how many times I clear debris out of it and wash the filter, it'll still do that stupid suck, stop, suck, stop with a flashing filter light. When switching it to max. The only good thing I can say about it is the fun "Peeeeewwwwww! Boing!" Noise it makes if you quickly tap the trigger.

I have a few Dyson cordless (V8, V10, and V11). I don't think they are worth anywhere near retail price, and I've only ever bought mine on Marketplace for well below (still NIB). The trigger on my V11 broke, but I managed to install an aftermarket replacement that I got from Amazon. Aside from that, they've worked well for me. However, I am only ever sweeping dust and dog fur from hardwood and tile. It's probably the easiest job for a vacuum. These are lightweight machines for lightweight use. Basically just very expensive "dust busters." I've never owned one of the corded models.

I have a dyson v10 or something. there are two different roller heads, one for carpet, one for hard floors. Every person whose house I have visited does 0 maintenance on their dyson and this is likely the cause of these issues. you need to take the filter off and wash it once a month and take the roller heads apart and remove the hairs that build up on the wheels once or twice a year. I really like it, it's worth buying although it's pretty overpriced.

You won’t be able to buy a corded Dyson with power head but the rationale behind them discontinuing them because 1. They don’t make as much with a corded vac and 2. By popular demand people want portability and convenience. Sell what people mostly want and mark it up like crazy. Why anyone would pay $1000+ for a Dyson cordless stick vac goes beyond me. Rather than thinking that seeing the dust in the clear bin and then having to deal with the gnarly dust in the dust bin every time you vacuum focus on a vacuum that can really get the dirt out. Brands like sebo and Miele are constantly recommended here because they have incredible cleaning capabilities and the long term quality to boot. While you won’t be able to see the dirt that you certainly will feel it and the quality of the vacuum will be LIGHT years ahead of Dyson. Alternatively you can start hoarding some Dyson vacs now while they’re still kicking around but that takes up space and requires effort to find a good working example that you can store for future use. I have a Dyson V10 and mostly like it for its battery life and general suction power. What I loathe is the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. So much cheap plastic and non interchangeable parts between pretty much every generation of vacuum! Why can’t I use my DC35 accessory kit with my V10? Pretty much have to consistently repurchase everything over and over which seems quite wasteful. Let your tactile feel be your new psychological motivator. You CAN feel the difference with a high vacuum. I’d hold off until your Dyson completely does as sebo and Miele will be around for a long long time…. But when you really need one or keep you eyes open for a gently used one and save some money.

No that’s not true at all. I have a Dyson v10 and it picks up sorts of things. Will it suck nearly as hard as my Sebo or central vac? Nope but it does a decent job of maintence cleaning. A relative of mine has two cats and two dogs and he has a v11 and it works fine there too in conjunction with his central vac.

I have a Dyson cordless v10 that’s just turned 2 years old. The battery wore down about 6 months ago and I tried to get a replacement and they were out. They said I had to call back and they couldn’t just send it when they were in. I called back a few days ago and they said I was out of warranty lol. I did end up getting them to ship a new batter for free. Literally the day before, the join on the head just cracked it half. I couldn’t afford the $150 head replacement so I got an aftermarket on Amazon and it works well so far.

In a long hair household going from a Dyson (v10) I had to give a haircut every room or face the consequences of hair not being picked out of the carpet as well to a Sebo (D4) that I didnt even realize had hair on the roller until I was putting the machine away... antitangle is not really on my mind with the much more powerful machine. Plus being able to pop the whole roller out in a second without a tool it matters to me even less.

I’ve had the Dyson cyclone v10 animal for over 3 years. No issues. Love it. Keep up with cleaning the machine and filter with whatever you choose and it’ll last forever. My mom has the gen a couple years older than that, (forgot the name) and hers still works great after 8 years with no issues! It’s a great investment and Dyson support is really fantastic. I just purchased the g1 wash and think I got a faulty one. Had a weird error message I saw others having. Dyson immediately troubleshooted and said I qualified for a replacement.

I’m in the UK and looking to replace my Dyson v10. I love that it’s cordless and lightweight but I hate pretty much everything else about it. The suction is terrible, I keep having filter light issues where it pulses and then turns off even though the filter is clean, the vacuum blocks up after nearly every use and is really hard to get the dust out of. Can anyone recommend any other vacuum brands that do a cordless lightweight one that doesn’t have the same issues as Dyson? What do you guys use and enjoy?

While I fully agree the Sebos are built to last longer, my D4 is a freaking tank, the Dysons aren't as bad as people say for cleaning. The repairs for the higher end ones are impossible as Dyson won't sell or release parts. My V10 Dyson (manual height+suction level) can do my 1900 square food house on two charges including the stairs and hard floor. If I used my Sebo D4 behind it, there's little to nothing caught. The Sebo is quieter and can be nearly as mobile and it's lighter on my arm in use but not a major thing for me. I use a little Velcro cable tie to keep the V10 going longer than just holding the button. Mine i got new from Costco when they came out and I have had to do some minor repairs and clean it quarterly. When the battery that's built in fails, I'm slapping a M18 Milwaukee Battery on it too

It's an interesting place. I use our commercial carpet cleaner once a year. Have a lower pile carpet (2-3 on Sebo) and some rugs that can be done on 1-2 even. I can do the room slowly with either split down the middle or used one after another with very little crossed. I do have 2 people in a household. A Shiba Inu for the dog fur and a Basset + Long Haired Retriever mix. The Sebo is quieter and I wear noise cancelling earbuds to listen to podcasts or music. The Dyson is noticable but the difference is more noticed by my S/O or dogs while I'm cleaning. I bought the Dyson new and got the D4 Sebo second hand, refurbished myself (I build computers and combustion engines, vacuums are easy) for $400 it's a phenomenal vacuum with the E1T head. I wouldn't break the bank to buy one unless you like it or are hard on vacuums. I don't go thru as many bags as I expected but the bagless is nice for a lower consumable cost AND I can charge it during off-peak times for my power usage. The usage isn't minor but if you are a penny pincher it's a point for battery against the wall outlets

Not going to say the Dyson V10 is the best, but it does a great job on my carpets. I love that it's always ready to go, bagless, and does a good enough job with our cats shedding everywhere. We back it up with a Hoover Powerscrub that we use every second month or so for a deep cleaning About the only brand I'll tell people to stay away from is Shark. Have had two of them die on me within the stated warranty period but then they didn't honor the warranty because it wasn't the actual motor that died. They left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not purchase any more of their equipment based on that service.

Shark cordless vacuum cleaners are not a type I would recommend. For the price, they have things about them that make them worse than a lot of the competition such as poor build quality and single cyclones. As for cordless, Dyson and LG, and sometimes Samsung, still make the leading mainstream ones in the United States. For Dyson, the V11 to current models are the best on carpet. The V8 is affordable, but lacks the run time and overall power to do a stellar job on carpet, at least in my opinion. Something such as the V15 smokes the heck out of a V8 and even a V10. Even the V12 is decent enough and good if you want something little and lightweight while still being powerful. This is interesting. I have either a Dyson v10 or v11, I can’t remember at the moment, and I hate it. I was hoping something other than a Dyson would be at the top. I don’t follow vacuums, so I wonder, is the v15 at the top just too new for people to hate it? It seems like the dysons all go in numerical order, so I wonder if people like them new, but are less satisfied as time goes on? Maybe that’s the case with every vacuum. It’s a cool list that I’ve saved so I can dive into it a bit more later- to replace my previous mentioned Dyson.

I’ll check it out. I really like the form factor of the Dyson- easy to use on stairs or in the car if I need to, but it literally just doesn’t pick up my dogs hair. That’s all I want- a vacuum that can get the corgi hair and can also be used on the couches and stairs, because more corgi hair.

I doesn’t suck up my dogs hair. At all. I bought the animal version and I can just run over dog fur over and over and it doesn’t pick it up. Even with a brand new battery, there just isn’t enough time to finish vacuuming. I pretty much have to keep it on boost and I barely have enough time to vacuum out our couches, let alone a rug. It also clogs constantly. The actual design is terrible for pet fur. The canister where the dust and debris goes has a tunnel of sorts it spins into and then it comes out of a small square hole no bigger than an inch wide. I have to dig my finger in there to pry out corgi fur several times when I use it. Which again, is no longer than 15 minutes. It makes this irritating on and off suction noise when it clogs and I hear it so often that I’m pretty sure it haunting my dreams. Also, this hasn’t been a thing for me, but it seems like a huge issue design wise- my best friend mounted her Dyson charger, as one would assume was the best way to do it- it came with a mounting kit. They hang it up after every use and let it sit there on the charger. Their battery got so bad they’d get less than 3 minutes of vacuuming towards the end of the first year. When they called Dyson, they told them that it was because it was constantly charging and that wears the battery out faster. So if you mount the charger, you apparently aren’t supposed to hang the Dyson on it unless it needs a charge. Why they couldn’t put some tech in their charger to alleviate this, I don’t know. I think this is why some people complain about the batteries dying quick and some don’t- my battery lasts close to as long as it always did several years on because I don’t hang it up to charge and only charge it when it dies. TLDR: pausing every 2 minutes to clear a clog while vacuuming and then having to sit and wait for a half hour for the thing to charge and finish your vacuuming is for the birds.

My friend had the same experience. They mounted the charger on the wall and the battery died fast. They called Dyson and they told them not to let it charge all the time and that’s why it went bad. My Dyson is probably 6 or 7 years old and I only charge it when it dies and the battery life is almost the same. It just doesn’t work very well for my needs.

Dyson Animal stick vacuum. Husband took over the vacuuming in retirement, and he loves it more than my Dyson upright with all the tools. Has replaced the rechargeable battery, said it was just pop in, easy. Note: animal and people hair can twist around the beater bar, so watch that and keep it clean. Take the whole thing out of the head. Get the hair hidden in the gaskets. [ I only say thus because I assist at a senior center thrift shop, and someone was donating it. I pointed out that the filter and head needed cleaning and it would work. Thank the goddesses that he challenged me. I told him I would fix it for $25 donation to the center. He went for it. I had it running in 5 minutes. Don't throw away vacuums until you have cleaned it! ]

I have a Dyson cordless Animal and it’s perfect for me. I also have a really nice almost new Kirby ($800+ price tag) I picked up for $10 at a garage sale because the people didn’t understand you could replace the belts for a couple dollars. I use the Dyson all the time because it’s so much easier and less mental commitment for my ADHD brain to pick up and use a cordless vacuum whenever I need it. I can vacuum for three seconds and put it back before I get distracted. Easily worth the money because now I actually vacuum as opposed to getting stressed out about the whole process of plugging in, lifting, storing the giant Kirby and not vacuuming at all in the end.

I had a Dyson "stick" type vacuum. It didn't last nearly as long as the price tag suggested it should. The out of warranty repair cost was 75% of what a new one would cost so I chucked it. I replaced it with a **Hoover ONE PWR** at half the price of the Dyson. I've had it longer than I had the Dyson and it's still working great. It comes with 2 batteries so one lives on the charger, the other on the vacuum. Means I've always got a full charge. The Dyson battery was internal so you can't swap out a battery if it dies on you. I would avoid anything that's not a brand name. Before the Dyson there was a generic Amazon no-name special vacuum that I used once, packed it back up in the box, and sent it back. Absolute junk. Bad suction. Just bad all around. Some of them may be fine but I don't trust the Amazon reviews on the no-name ones. They have a "Fieety" brand stick vacuum for $159 with nearly 1000 reviews averaging 4.6 stars. Is it good? You'd think so. But I still wouldn't take a chance on it. Ironically, the vacuum I bought and have had nothing but good luck with has a very low rating on Amazon (only 3 reviews though), but it doesn't matter as it's no longer available since it's such an old model.

I've previously had a Shark Upright and now have a Dyson Stick. I think both are fine. Honestly the biggest thing that made me go with Dyson over Shark for my current vacuum is being able to maintain my vacuum. When looking online and in store it was hard to tell how I would clean the regular floor head myself with the Shark, while the Dyson is incredibly simple. Even the filter on the Dyson is washable, I don't have to replace any disposable parts all the time. If I can't maintain and clean my own cleaning tools they're doomed to be replaced sooner.

The problem is not that the battery runs out during normal use, it's that EVERY SINGLE TIME you use max suction mode, it shortens the life of the battery. The user manual might say to only use max suction mode in short bursts, but it still doesn't change the fact that max suction mode is so bad for the battery that it shouldn't even be an option.

I can say the Miele C1,2, and 3 bags or like $45 for the XL ones and it’s 8 bags or for you, a year supply. though you might only go through 5-6 cause they do compact the dust pretty well. And it comes with 2 pre motor filters and 2 post motor filters. So you get to change it’s primary filter every time you change bags, the pre motor filter which is what keeps the motor clean and running for a long time every 4 bags and the post motor filter which is the the last stand filter for anything that might have made it through every 4 bags. Also air flowing through a MERV 13 filter several times is the equivalent to a hepa filter cause they filter the same .3 micron particles and hepa filters 99% and MERV 13 filters 75-85%. So this would be close if not better than “hospital grade filtration.” And if you must they sell a hepa grade post motor filter as well for most models. So bagged would be great for your needs, and for an extra $45 you get a machine that will last at least twice if not up to four times as long as any baggless vacuum. I also own a Dyson stick for the past 2 years and my dad owns a Dyson animal ball for the past 15 years and they work pretty darn well. Shark might not last as long but the don’t leak dust either and is cheaper from what I’ve seen so its also is a viable option. Best of luck!!

I also have pets and got a Miele C1 Cat and Dog. The suction is fantastic, but due to the fur tumbleweeds and tracked in dirt, I vacuum every other day or so. For that I find myself reaching for my backup Dyson stick - the canister is just too much of a pain for a quickie rug pass. Miele is the weekly “CLEAN ALL THE THINGS” tool. So if you are a chronic vaccunmer, I’d suggest either getting a Miele (or comparable) stick vac, or if you go canister, get a cheap backup for quickie fur jobs.

Dyson isn't what they used to be. I use one of their sticks at work. It was great initially but I've been watching it literally fall apart over the last few years (first the dust canister kept coming apart, then one of the wheels fell off, then the button that holds the stick in fell off). It gets a little abused, but it's not exactly tossed around. The suction is good. Everything else leaves something to be desired. Your money is probably better spent elsewhere.

Bought a cheap Walmart one for the garage and it worked great. Battery lasts forever. It works so well that the Dyson has gone to garage and the hart stays in the house. I've had it for 3 years now, still original battery working just fine. I'd get a year tops out of a Dyson battery. Dyson wins the looks award, but Hart beats it in performance.

My Miele is 15 years old , has some paint scratches but works fine otherwise. This is the main vacuum. I also have Dyson cordless stick and that thing already on replaced bin ( original cracked) and third party batteries. As much as stick convenient in area without available outlets I don’t like that thing. Third thing I use almost daily is robot vacuum. I have pets and it makes life easier.

The dyson we are just replacing is going on 9 years. We did swap out the battery for a bigger one. It still runs great, except it has damage from falling into the ground due to our child trying to vacuum and leaving it in strange place. But considering how many times it has been dropped its going okay

I feel like cordless sticks are more designed for small flats. Like if I had a house I‘d never buy a Dyson stick. But I have a 30 square meter flat and there is immovable furniture in that space. I probably need to clean 10-20 square meter. The Dyson is amazing for that. I don’t need a battery that lasts more than 15 minutes.

90% of the population aren’t real cleaners though and that’s fine. I have a 30 square meter flat. And I work full time, no pets etc. I just need something lightweight and that doesn’t need much space. Dyson is perfect for that.  Just because professionals don’t use something, doesn’t mean it isn’t perfect for the average person.

I’ve got a fifteen year old Miele vacuum that could suck up a black hole and a cordless Dyson stick thing that has been absolutely fine. The Dyson one is great for everyday cleaning after the kids and the Miele is dragged around every couple of weeks for a deep clean. I also have a Henry that I got after buying the house as I wanted something to deal with the DIY mess. It does the job and is pretty robust but the Miele is much better but also cost a lot more.

Yes, being cordless and effective for what I need. They have HEPA filters, at least mine does. The no bag is a feature for some of us not a defect. It's all a tradeoff. For some the tradeoff for cordless, no bags, good suction, etal means we vacuum more than we otherwise would. I dont make a mess emptying it vs making a mess swapping bags - cause I overfill it. That's a me thing but it's a consistent me thing and I dont have to worry about it with the Dyson. I never would have thought I'd defend a near $1,000 cordless vacuum but I got one as a gift and will never buy anything different now.

I have the rechargeable #2 on the list Dyson stick and I LOVE IT! If you have carpeted stairs, it’s no challenge dealing with those. I live in a 2700 square foot cookie-cutter tract house. First floor is laminate with an office that has carpet. Then there’s the stairs which leads to 5 carpeted bedrooms, two tile bathrooms, a laundry room, and a walk-in carpeted closet. I can get all of that done one charge.

Call me crazy but my Dyson is still super strong after 4 years. Once the “beater bar” stopped working in mine, called Dyson and they told me to bring it to the Dyson repair place down the street. They gave me a whole new vacuum after 10 mins because they didn’t have a matching color brush head and didn’t want to send me home with a purple and yellow vacuum. When my cordless Dyson stopped working they did the same thing. I’m pretty lucky having an actual Dyson store down the street so I’m sure my experience is better than most, but they have taken care of me.

The sharks are half the price at least and have nearly equal weight profiles as Dyson. Dyson warranties on cordless are just as garbage as everyone else's. Not reddit consumers who never clean the filters, brushes, or tracks not to mention reviewing vacuums that have only been around for a few years

The ease of vacuuming with it makes me despise cord vacuums. I can never go back. I work in shops, and Dyson cordless vacuums are revered. Need to vacuum up sawdust and aluminum chips and plastic shavings and metal filings? The Dyson will do it. Sharks and similar seem to break in a month or two. The power tool branded vacs are tougher but don’t work as well. The only downside is the batteries, but you can buy a DeWalt or Milwaukee adapter and never worry about it again.

My Miele corded vacuum has lasted for over almost 15 years. Some of the attachments look worn down, but they still work very well. I also have a Roomba and a Dyson cordless vacuum, but I don’t feel like it’s a fair comparison, since battery packs degrade over time. I’ve had to replace the battery pack for the Dyson, and my Roomba seems like it runs out of juice noticeably faster than before.

We have Dyson, Miele and Henry. Dyson cordless is the best for daily convenience but not so good for a deep clean and it's quite high maintenance with all the charging, emptying, filter washing, getting hair off the brushes etc. Miele is solid and the suction is bonkers but I wouldn't use it for building work etc as I want to keep it nice. Henry is the work horse for cleaning the log burner, mud, brick, sick. You can chuck anything at him but he falls over a lot.

This and "enthusiests" in any given segment will be willing to give up convenience and performance. They always miss the entire point of a dyson, which is completely convenience. I don't want to lug around a bagged vacuum, I don't want to have to plug it in, dyson retains the build & performance but makes it cordless and quiet.

4 years for a vacuum is terrible value for money ae. Expectations are so low these days for product longevity. Dyson are supposed to be the most premium vacuum, and it lasts about a year before it starts going down hill. After that you have to buy cheap Chinese battery adapter's to even use them. The filters are impossible to wash, and suction is below average.

While I was on the phone with them, I mentioned the battery was draining pretty fast and it wasn’t sucking as well as it used to, and they sent a new battery and filter as well. Also, it was outside the warranty period, so I was pretty happy with the customer service.

I think you have had some trauma from older vacuums regarding batteries. Modern vacuums will last double that without losing too much power. It is no different than laptops. Those batteries used to die or be useless in 3-4 years but these days 5-6 is easily achieved, same for phones, and vacuums aren't discharged and recharged nearly as often. To illustrate, my 4 year old Philips vacuum has lost 0 of its charging capabilities. And while I agree that Dyson has good suction, they are reliability nightmares. I had two. I replaced the first after 3 years because it just stopped performing and no amount of cleaning did anything to change that. The second developed the same issues in about 2 years. I managed to convince support to send me a new motor but by then I was so pissed off with the brand (expensive and unreliable are a hateful combo) that I will never buy Dyson again (much of their stuff looks fancy but are outright scams). My Philips 8000 is as mentioned 4 years old and it has lost some of its suction power but will run about 40 minutes on a charge, same as when I bought it. Not super enthusiastic about the suction performance going down in 4 years but it has been better in pretty much every way compared to the Dyson (which refused to hoover up any of the cat litter on the floor eventhough it had much better suction, and it was FAR quieter too). Never again Dyson. Look up Dyson and Scam on Youtube and watch a few vids before you buy anything.

I have a lower end Miele as my main vacuum and have had it for 10 years and it is like new... however I did supplement with a Dyson cordless for awhile and it went through a battery every year and I had to replace several broken plastic bits on the cannister.... also those make a mess when you try to empty them..... No cordless vacuums are BIFL.... HOWEVER we did get a Samsung Bespoke Jet cordless vac 2 years ago and I love that thing. Pricy for a cordless but it is way better quality than the Dyson and has a charging base that also contains a vacuum/bag that sucks the dirt out of it into a bag... so completely mess-less. It also has two batteries that can be swapped in seconds like a power tool. The second battery mounts to the dock in a second charger. It is also quieter than the Dyson and the Miele.

I used to hate sitting on the floor with sicciors cutting hair off the bar. I don’t miss trailing cables or the bulk of the Hoover.

In another life I was a Kirby service tech and I serviced machines on a number of occasions > 40-50 years old. At the time they had parts available for all machines. They ARE expensive (and the sales process leaves a lot to be desired) but are generally built like tanks. If there's a weak point, it's the fan. Even if it is Lexan, hard/heavy enough debris (eg bolts) can shatter the blades. The nice thing about the design is that instead of putting the bag inline with the fan, the bags fill from the top so it's able to maintain airflow. We have one (though it was a gift) but generally use our Dyson cordless day to day.

There’s no single vac that does it all except for maybe a super heavy super expensive traditional canister like a Miele. For an everyday hard floor vac (and light carpet vac) the best is Levoit on Amazon that's about $200. It's a Dyson-like machine that overcomes a lot of the longtime design issues with Dysons (such as, it can stand up by itself -- what a concept). But we also keep the Dyson around for a more aggressive carpet vac when we need it. We also have a Eureka boss -- powerful and dependable small canister vac. And a monster shop vac in the basement. Dysons are great but they're really expensive and their air filtering system is overly complicated and tends to lose efficiency. If you own a Dyson, watch all the available Youtubes on how to clean it with pressurized air so you can keep it running. Given the competition from newer manufacturers like Levoit, I think it's going to be harder for Dyson to justify selling floor vacs for close to $1000.

I just asked about how often I’d be buying bags for a sebo with two high shedding large dogs, (similar probably too a gsd and 3 (if long hair cats) I would probably be replacing the bag every week. (Actually more than that because I didn’t tell people I also have 3 cats haha) Someone with a husky commented that they replace the bag 1.5-2 times a month. Calculating that cost for two dogs is another 210 a year in bags (probably more for me) I am taking that into account with  replacing a vacuum that died (Dyson) but it doesn’t have a bag or a Sebo that has a 10 year warranty but I will have probably bought 2-3 dysons in that time period with the amount I’d be spending on bags. I haven’t decided yet 🙃 but thought I’d share the numbers.
