I was about to say why all the Dyson hate as I had a DC01 and it was amazing. Had it for a similar amount of time and replaced bits as everything was screwed together and you could buy parts. Lost the hoover in a divorce and haven’t had one since. Shame to hear they’re shite now.

Ha, that reminds me of the Dyson DC01. I think OPs boss should just get a bagged machine, but man that Workhorse looks cool. Any experience using one?

I’m old enough to remember when the DC01 came out. My mother vacuumed every day but when she did the house for the first time with the Dyson the thing was filled. It was a revelation. Unfortunately - people are simply not used to repairing and fixing things themselves these days. They also don’t feel particularly modular or designed to be fixed at home by the layman. Compare that with a Numatic? Night and Day.

Dyson is a good call. My Mum has a DC01, still going strong after 30 years, and aside from the usual filter replacements I've only had to do a couple of cable repairs. It's a little heavy for her now, and I've been trying to convince her to buy a stick vac, but she's holding out. I also have a 25 year old DC04 and that's subjected to regular abuse, sucking up sand, cement, plaster. It's no longer the daily driver, but only because my wife wanted something lighter, but repair wise, I've replaced the brush once, otherwise strip, clean and rebuild when it becomes uncooperative.

Very hard agree. I had a DC01 - it was fantastic, and lasted for over 20 years having various bits replaced. After the motor finally seized, I bought a new model, and it was utterly shite. The filter-cleaning required, alone, was enough to make me hate it. Ended up giving it away and buying a Vax upright for £50 in a factory clearance.

Yep.  We had an OG Dyson that was a beast. It lasted 14 years before it died. We took it to a shop and they said “this was the last of the good ones” and they couldn’t repair it.  Switched to a Sebo Felix Premium and couldn’t be happier. Not cheap. But, does everything we need it to exceptionally well, comes with a lengthy warranty, and has been flawlessly reliable for over 4 years.
