I'm probably going to get down voted for this based off reading the comments (sorry I'm new to this sub) but my Dyson DC14 Animal has been a BEAST of a vacuum for longer than my children have actually been ALIVE! I've had this vacuum longer than any Vehicle I've ever owned and it still works just as good as it did the day I bought it! It's over 20yrs old...have newer model Dysons not performed like older ones? I'm SHOCKED by the Dyson hate?!? đŸ€Ż

My Dyson DC14 is 17 years old. Yes the thing is a beast but with regular brush clean out and changing the filters every few years the thing is a beast. I am keeping mine until it no longer turns on. I have a love hate relationship with my Roborock robot vacuum; mine is 5 years old. It does better on thicker carpet than it does on hardwood/tile (which is what I bought it for) and it get clogged way too easily and TBH for the edges I get better results from a basic Swiffer. It also rarely ever completes a whole cleaning cycle on a single battery charge.

I have number 2 the Electrolux pure C9 animal. I plan to never buy another Electrolux vacuum again because this one sucked so bad. We've had it for 2 years and use it on hard floors only now. Even then it overheats if I want better suction and set the power to max. Went back to our 14 year old Dyson for carpet, even though the Dyson is starting to creak from age. I would repurchase my Dyson but they no longer make the model I have. I am following this thread with interest to see what I can replace my aging Dyson with, but it seems no vacuum company wants to make a good vacuum that lasts. I wish a company would just pirate the Dyson DC14 which is what I have, because that's the one and only vacuum you'd ever need. Sorry for the rant.

Oh actually the Dyson DC14 is now 16 years old and going strong! Very banged up but suction is as good as it was on day 1.

What a shame. I have a corded Dyson vac I grabbed in Costco in 2010. Still does an excellent job. DC14plus

Yes, Dyson's were made much better 20 years ago. Modern day Dyson's aren't close to the that.

Honestly, you’re just better buying a new one every year or two consider it an ongoing cost. Sure you can buy some fancy namebrand shit from Europe for like $1000, but he probably won’t have the same features. You’re used to the same quality of life, the same weight and thinness, or you’ll have to give it constant haircuts
shark in particular is very good at not making you give your vacuum and fucking haircut, buy a refurbished one every two years it’ll end up costing you about the same as one of the expensive units.. you buy one of those vacuums that last 20 years and you’ll be wishing it broke in 10 once the newer models have much better features for quality of life, I used the Dyson DC 14 for like 15 years or some shit, it never broke. On its 32end haircut, me on the floor with the scissors bent down, I finally said enough of this shit, threw it in the fucking bin. I don’t really care if the shark I own now breaks in three years. I’m never doing a haircut again.

My parents lost me borrow a oreck bag Vacuum that's been in our family as, long as I can remember when I bought my house. A couple years ago I found a Dyson dc14 at a yard says for $20, replaced the clutch and it "worked" but never well, but I just properly cleaned the rollers of all the hair again, unclogged the small hose from the shroud to the ret of the unit, and it's sucking like a dream now. I've never pulled this much dust out of my rugs in my life and now I want to puke. Anyway, moral of the story is use what you have, and fix what breaks. Searching for used Dyson is a great option. Also rtings.com started doing vacuum reviews and I highly recommend rtings the anything they write.

The older dyson works way better than the newer models. We have the dyson dc14 and it works amazing well. The things/hair ive vacuumed is anything but amazing for how much ive abused this vacuum. We tried the dyson animal and returned it as it just didnt compare. Imo the dc14 is built like a tank.
