I bought my Dyson in 2005 for $399 and it’s still going strong. I think the original models must have been made better.

Favourites - Miele C3, certain early Dyson uprights (DC07, DC14 and DC15) Least favourites - current Dyson models, all Shark models ever, any Hoover brand sold by AusVac/Godfreys/VacDirect Australia

I grew up with a DC15, which is basically just a DC14 with the first “ball” steering system It was a ripper of a vacuum, I ended up with it eventually; my family got maybe 15 years in total out of this vac? I replaced it with a new Dyson upright and I’ve never fucking hated a vacuum cleaner so much in my life! I have a Miele now

Their early models perform much better than current offerings; if they restarted production of the DC07 or DC14/15, I’d totally buy one! Wouldn’t even consider a current Dyson though; the stark contrast in quality between a DC15 and UP16 is blatantly obvious, favouring the older model.

Buy a Ryobi with an extra battery. Mine works better than my $600+ Samsung cordless. I have a 6000+ sq ft house and it does half on one battery. With both batteries I can finish and vacuum several sofas. I still use a plug in Dyson for deep cleaning but the a daily vacuum, it rocks.

r/VacuumCleanersWhy hate Shark? What's a good brand?

Mine died in 1 week, used it maybe 3 times. I called CS and they told me the main drive unit is considered a consumable product and isn’t eligible for warranty. They offered a replacement drive unit for $90 plus shipping. I returned it the next day. Had a Dyson for 4 years, standup has worked perfectly. The handheld battery died after maybe 3 years and they sent me a new one for free, no shipping. Sharks are complete garbage and their service is as well

Mine is like 8 years old one of the animal ones but it’s an upright works great.

I sweep my floors. I also avoid Dyson like a plague. I had two dysons in the good olde days when the animal upright was brand new. Turns out it couldn't cope with my normal hair or my pets' fur. We also had an original upright.. that didn't like my sister sewing.

Most people here will tell you to stay away from Dyson. Like everything else, everyone's experience is different. I have a Dyson Animal upright that's a decade old and still works like new. We've always had a stick vacuum for the convenience, but both Shark and Samsung models we had weren't even worth the convenience. We dropped the coin for a V15 and honestly it works even better than the upright. My only problem with the V15 is the battery is not removable, and of course anything with a battery is not going to be BIFL. But in my experience Dyson makes a great product. Bagged vacuums will definitely have better longevity odds but if I'm getting even 10 years out of a vacuum, that's good to me.

I have one of the original Animals, and it still keeps up with 2 cats who shed and track litter all over the place. I thought it was dying, but I replaced the big secondary filter. It's back up to speed now. I also have a cordless V8 or v10 that I picked up a year or two ago, and it's complete crap.

r/CatAdviceCan someone recommend me some a good vacuum to buy that can actually handle my 3 cats hair?!

Yes the original Animal is a workhorse. The newer ball I don’t like as much.

r/CleaningTipsBest vacuum I can use for pet hair on carpet and furniture?

I have the big Dyson pet vacuum. It’s a full corded standup vacuum. It’s hefty but works really well. I also have this little hair removal tool that I use on the stairs and the high traffic/sleeping spots. https://a.co/d/a9AfhFK
