I have 4. Dyson Outsize+ stick vac, Dyson DC24 (old model), Roomba and a Ryobi handheld dustbuster.
If at any moment money is a concern you can get a good Bissell vacuum at walmart for like 150 bucks. Something like a powerforce helix, cleanview, or anything in that style. I remember I bought one in 2013 and it was amazing for the buck. However not sure how is a powerforce helix now a days. I had a cleanview a couple months ago and it worked quite awesome but ate a ziptie and lost suction. However, great vacuum still should last you around five years. If your apartment is in Miami I'd choose dyson animal since they are in fact powerful. However they are at the 400-650 dollar price range. I have a Dyson DC24 used (old) which I recently got and its awesome. Dosen't pick much as a heavier vacuum but the ball technology is awesome and its fun to use so I can imagine how the new ones would be. I'd stay away from cordless vacuums. They are weird and when you use one it feels weird and it feels like its gonna die for some reason and are not as powerful. The heavier the better I feel tho.
I didn't know about the anti-tangle brush thing? That's disappointing.... But then again I'm still using a Dyson DC24 because it just won't die and it's easy to repair
I think the upright is great for ease of use but it couldn’t handle dog hair very well. It kept getting stuck in different places and I had to clean the vacuum every single use. Idk I am just not impressed by the vacuum.
I used to have one of those cordless Dyson, and while I loved how practical it was, it was very finicky. I constantly had to clean out every part of it because hair got stuck in it and plugged it up. Like they were rolled around the bristles so tightly it stopped moving, they go stuck in the tube to the canister. It ended up just stop working and I didn’t care enough to deal with it but tossed it and got a regular vacuum. So while I am considering getting a second one again for the quick messes, because in terms of ease of use they are great, I am not sure what I would get and definitely would do my research. Probably would stay away from Dyson, and look if shark or Miele makes a good one, as their brands are better in general.
When we got rid of carpeting in our house, with only 1 area rug and some throw rugs left, I bought a cordless Dyson upright, and a Miele hard-floor canister. The Dyson can be used on rugs or hard floors, and has good attachments for furniture, drapes. The Miele has a very large hard floor attachment that fits under most furniture, as well as good attachments.
I bought used Miele older canister at local vacuum dealer. Owner didn’t want to talk about Dyson. I like Miele but not sure about canister vs upright. It’s quiet, & does a great job, & I will keep but still like the Dyson concept. I bought Dyson Animal 3 on sale last week. Also have Dyson cordless handheld & purifiers. I have original Dyson ball DC24, 15 years old too
I agree with this list. I have a V15 detect and it is what I use 95% of the time. It is just so convenient to grab it off the charger and be cleaning up a mess 1 second later. However, I bought it expecting it to last 10 years, probably with a battery replacement along the way. If I were to own only 1 vacuum, the Miele cat&dog is what I would have bought based on reviews. Call me lazy, but I bet my house would be less clean if that was my only vacuum. Dragging it out, dealing with the hose and cord, getting an extension cord or moving the car if I want to use it outside are all small but annoying barriers to quick cleans. I can take my Dyson off the charger, suck up a little spill, even step outside and empty it into the trash by the time I'd have a corded vacuum ready to go. If you live in a small house or apartment, the battery Dysons can be your only vacuum, but I think for larger homes you still want a corded machine. For what it is worth, my other vacuum is a DC24 from 2004ish, and while I didn't expect it to last all that long either, it still works good as new. I replaced the hose once about 10 years ago after I tore it. I like how modular it is so it can be taken all apart and cleaned and parts can be replaced like Legos.
We've got a Dyson Small Ball and the small wheels on the head hardly turn now and they're very hard to clean. I noticed when the thing started scratching our nice jarrah floor. Completely ruined an area of it. The lid on the handle keeps falling off too. I contacted Dyson and they said they would send us a replacement head but a few days later they cancelled the order. Turns out they don't make them any more and they won't do anything else about it. We went to Kmart and bought one of their stick ones and it does the job for us. I also have an Ozito wet and dry vac for the rabbit's enclosure. My brother has a Henry and he loves it. They cost a bit but they're industrial grade. Maybe Miele is good too always used to be. I'm from the UK and 3 of my cousins worked at the headquarters so in the early days of Dyson they got us a good deal on a machine and it was plastic fantastic. Just fell apart.
