I should add that I owned a DC25 for many years, and then a Dyson v15 Detect Absolute. I recently purchased a SEBO D4 Premium 2.0. It’s my first SEBO, first bagged vacuum, and first canister style vacuum. We have mostly carpet in our home, with the exception of kitchen, dining area (open plan kitchen style) & bathroom. Also live in the U.K. Happy to answer any questions, but absolutely love the SEBO.

Plug in Dyson Animal that's got to be at least 15 years old. Just keeps on suckin'! Had to replace the hose on it last year, but that's it. We have three cats, a golden, and I shed a fair bit as well. We have hardwood, tile, and rugs. I like that it just seamlessly goes from one to the other.

100% It was tough to justify the new price, but no regrets now. It's such an odd vacuum in that it feels so... rickety? It always feels like it should fall apart, yet refuses to die. Still pulls animal hair out of carpet like nothing else. I see mint condition ones on the local classifieds for $100 all the time. If ours died, I'd replace it with the same one without a second thought.

I have a Dyson ball from 2010 and still use it on a regular basis.

I have a very old corded Dyson Animal, probably from 2010ish. It still works pretty well. I love the ball, it just made things so much easier to maneuver. Of course I am sure all of the new vacuums have something similar now so that probably isn’t a deciding factor.

Mine died in 1 week, used it maybe 3 times. I called CS and they told me the main drive unit is considered a consumable product and isn’t eligible for warranty. They offered a replacement drive unit for $90 plus shipping. I returned it the next day. Had a Dyson for 4 years, standup has worked perfectly. The handheld battery died after maybe 3 years and they sent me a new one for free, no shipping. Sharks are complete garbage and their service is as well

I just got a Dyson ball upright for $160 refurbished. That’s like half the cost of a new one and it’s through them so it’s legit. I know people gonna come at me for this cuz they’re not the best vacuum. But I just needed something decent. Not the best vacuum on the market. It works great though!

I am with you. For how much it costs one would expect top-of-the-line ergonomics but in wand mode, my corded animal ball falls over because the hose is so stiff from the suction. I’ve tried stretching it, hanging it over the shower curtain, trying to loosen it up but nothing works. It thuds over onto the floor every time. Trying to keep it upright turns into a wrestling match. It seems like it was designed by someone who has never had to actually operate a vacuum in the real world. Ergonomic fail. Never again.

Hardwood floors here. Dyson upright lasted... 9 years, I just looked up when we bought it. It just failed, and it basically outlasted our cats. I was using it a few times a week, sometimes quite heavy use. It's the ball one, animal something. I used it to vacuum up stray litter - I'd fill the receptacle area twice in a single vacuum, 11 litter boxes in one area, 3 in another, so lots of litter got scattered on the floor. Most of our house is hardwood or tile or whatever, not a lot of carpet. Warning - it pulls in so hard that it doesn't move on carpet, except commercial welcome mat type stuff which we have under the litter boxes. What was nice about the Dyson was that I could leave the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs and do the entire stairs with the narrow nozzle because the hose tube thing was so long. Also no bags. Was a bit noisy, and heavy to lug around. We only had to wash it out every now and then. Seems like motor burnt out, or something. We have a Miele canister now, but I haven't had to deal with 8 cats worth of hair, just 1. We got it with the single use bags but got a reusable one, and I've emptied it twice now (from one vacuuming of litter and such). It's very quiet - I often turn it off by accident when it's running - and lightweight. 2 filters and 1 bag, so lots of stuff to replace on a regular basis. It was so quiet I was worried it wouldn't work well, but I've been pleasantly surprised with it. It's on par with the Dyson. Hate the Shark. Used it at work (almost 5 years), virtually useless, and we don't have cats there (lol). Two locations, 4 vacuums. They just don't pull up stuff, don't do anything. They were rated really good by Consumer Reports, but my experience with them was extremely poor. Two failed at the places where I worked, so I ordered 2 more, hoping that the bad ones were just one offs. I'd have to run over the same bit of leaf or whatever a few times to pick it up. I overhauled them etc but no better. New ones that I got for the store (I bought one for one location, then another for the other), same experience. I told the store management not to order them, to find something else. Had bagless Bissels. They burned out after about 5-6 months. I worked for a while at a place that sold them so I bought them somewhat regularly. Felt like a waste of materials and landfill so went for the Dyson after going through maybe 6-8 Bissels. Normally I'm a "buy it once the right way" kind of person, but for some reason I went through a zillion Bissels. The Dyson was a "buy it once the right way" and I hope the Miele is too.
