I had a dc40. It was a great vacuum for almost ten years! Then things started wearing down. Not too hard to replace but I am very handy. Time to replace, Vacuum redditors had a lot of complaints about newer Dyson’s being made of cheaper plastic. That and the noise (even with ear protection is was grating), I decided to go with a Miele and wow, the sound is amazingly quiet. I am still in the learning curve with the attachments but it cleans like nothing else
Well you’re going to have the same sort of problems with Shark, they’re worse. Mine wasn’t even meant to have the brushroll removed and cleaned, found that out the hard way. That’s basic maintenance for a vacuum, especially when you have pets and humans with long hair. Shark wanted me to buy a whole new powerhead, lol. Good thing my dad and I are handy and jerry-rigged the Shark back together. My mom bought two Dysons. A (I think) DC40 then one of the pet ones with a ball. They were both crap too. The switched kept going out, luckily our vacuum shop doesn’t gouge people on repairs. I took my commercial Sanitaire (not suggesting this beast to average consumers), but the amount of sand it pulled out of her carpet was fascinating. So the Dysons were just sweeping the surface of her carpet. I’m sure the people here will recommend either a Miele or a Sebo. Other good vacuums exist too. I mainly collect and repair older vacuums as a hobby. So I’m not the one to ask. I do know bagged is better and cleaner than bagless, and direct air cleans deeper than a bypass machine. Air flow is what cleans, not suction.
Ok so firstly, never buy a shark. They’re some of the worst vacuums in the long run and break easily also shark bins are super small. If you want a Dyson corded, they sell the ball origin and the ball animal (discontinued on Dyson’s website) for £250-£300 so a little over budget. I personally prefer Dysons as bagless uprights as they’re super powerful and easy to use. The only downside is that they’re a little heavy compared to most vacuums. If there is anything else specific or of your not willing to get the Dysons because you don’t like the reviews or design or price just let me know in a reply.
Canister vacuum: Dyson cinetic big ball (no maintainance) / Dyson big ball (filter to maintain) Both have hygienic bin emptying (your finger doesnt go near the waste disposal area) It’s easy to reach around due to the extendable wand. Upright: Dyson ball upright vacuum (any) theyre easy to maintain, they have hygienic bin emptying, and they have a long wand on the back thats easy to use with the on board tools. Cordless: Dyson v12 (it’s small and uses a button power system, easy to manoeuvre) / Dyson gen5 (it’s normal size, uses a power button system and had a built in crevice and dusting brush combo). Both have hygienic bin emptying
Thats bad, but all of my dysons are nice and haven’t needed repair yet, I would definitely buy another Dyson ball, or cordless. This just sounds like horrible luck but do you vacuum and fill the bin all the way to the top before emptying it?
My boyfriend gave me his old Dyson vac with the yellow ball and I've had it over 5yrs and it was old when I got it and it's still great. Super suction. Best vac I've ever used. All these comments surprised me. I had no idea everyone thought it was a shit product
My Dyson Ball that I bought in 2013 for like $600 still works well. I do have to cut my wife’s hair out from the roller. But other than that still working good. I probably won’t buy another one though. I think I’ll just buy cheaper Sharks and replace them sooner. My mother’s new shark cleaned better than the old Dyson.
Nice! I have the D4. It does self-propel in carpet mode, but not so much that it pulls *me*. I should double check I have it set to the right suction strength
I have 2 broken shark lift away navigators one so far is just the head replacement and the other is the hose to the vacuum elbow connector but I can't tell if it includes the hose. Then I have an orange ball dyson I can figure out how to engage the beater bar. I bought the navigators refurbished. One lasted years the other more recent 1 lasted maybe a year. They keep making them so much less quality it seems. What can I do with these vacuums? I literally got a vacuum graveyard growing in my living room.
I’ve got a Dyson that I bought in like 2012. Maybe earlier. I do virtually no maintenance because I’m lazy. It’s still trucking along, no problem. Edited to add: it’s lived through my long hair, my sister’s long hair, and a Great Pyrenees.
