I have a DC17 that’s been trucking along for ages. Probably needs a new belt but that’s about it. Clean the filters, clear the brush. Golden. Have a DC44 and V10 that I bought when they first came out. They’re doing just fine. Did have to eventually replace the batteries with Amazon Chinesium knockoffs…and they’re fine. I’ll look into power tool conversions in the future, but I mostly have Ridgid and don’t really want to adapt the adapters for Dewalt or Milwaukee. Gets bulky.
I bought a Dyson DC44 Animal and it’s been discontinued. I can’t get parts for it. It’s been hard to go back to a brand when I spent so much money in it and now it’s a brick. Most recent is the head that broke and can’t find an OEM replacement.
I have 2. The old DC44 I've used weekly for 20 years. Clean it, replace the battery, clean the filter. Thats about it. It's in the basement now. Works like a champ.
cordless dyson on the main level and one in the basement
yeah i've had a look at the sebo and its just a bit more than i'm willing to spend. there is a sale on the sebo website for a green e3 for £449.52 so it is something. i've seen the miele c3 for £250 or the dog edition for £300 we had a henry but its gone kaput. we've got a dyson dc44 which we used for small spills but need something permanent. we've just had new carpets put in all through the house so the henry never really got used on the new carpets.
I’ve had a Dyson handheld (V4 I think) since 2017, and it works great. It does need a thorough cleaning once a year. An ex of mine had the same vacuum, it was beat to shit, never cleaned, was anemic. I cleaned it out thoroughly and it was as good as new again. My theory is people buy Dyson as a luxury appliance thinking it’s zero maintenance like a bag vacuum. It’s actually way higher maintenance because dust gets into every nook an cranny. My Miele vacuum has a bag, a filter, and a pre-filter. It’s way easier to maintain than a Dyson.
I bought the digital slim from target. It came with one brush roller head which Dyson said will scratch hardwood floors. My floors were just redone so I need a soft roller. I called Dyson 5x and each time got different and mostly incorrect info. They told me they had a soft roller attachment for floors. Then the $100+ attachment they said would work they said would NOT fit my model. I love the vacuum- it’s light and goes for an hour+ without recharging. I took a chance and before returning it, I ordered a soft roller head from Amazon that did not say it worked with the digital slim model - but it looked like it might work. It worked!!! It even has a light so you can see the dust on the floor. Dyson customer service and communication sucks, but I am happy with the product and the $34 soft roller head for wood floors that I bought online
I’ve got a Dyson that I bought in like 2012. Maybe earlier. I do virtually no maintenance because I’m lazy. It’s still trucking along, no problem. Edited to add: it’s lived through my long hair, my sister’s long hair, and a Great Pyrenees.
I treated myself to one 15 years ago and it's still going strong; have never even needed it serviced. Mine is one up from the basic cheapest model. I forget but yeah I think I paid $500-600. We'd recently gone through many lower cost vacs and we were ready for a more BIFL product. I bought it for myself for my 45th bday. We stayed at a rustic AirBNB camp that had a Miele from the 70s. The cord no longer retracted, but it still worked great. Even with sucking up dried leaves twigs dirt and gravel on the daily. I'll mention we also have some robots and a stick vacuum; those were found on the curb and my husband refurbished them. I vastly prefer the Miele, but it's nice to have options. The stick is good for quick cleanups, the robots are good for extending the time between deep vacuuming.
We have Dyson animal 4 and 6, both found on the curb, and refurbished by my husband. I like it for doing the stairs and furniture and area rugs. I also like that my husband will more often vacuum with one of these, rather than me having to vacuum. And we have a Brava (purchased), and a Eufy (found on the curb). I do like the Eufy. We had Roombas from the earliest models onward, because my husband likes robots. But the Eufy is better. The Brava is nice and quiet but I think it's just a glorified swiffer and just pushes all the dirt into the corners making more work for me when I get out the Miele. It'll work okay as a wet mop in a small space like our tiled bathrooms. We use the Miele once a week and the other stuff more sporadically. The lesson here is if you are on a budget, you can find vacs for free on the curb, pay to refurbish or learn to do it yourself (also disinfect, ack!!). But we've never ever seen a Miele being thrown out!!!!
